#The proper way to use chopsticks #How to hold chopsticks
I decided one day to learn how to use chopsticks so I found a picture of how to hold them and I refused to use a fork for a week. Now it is easy to use them when the mood strikes me. I always keep some in my car instead of plastic utensils for my road snacks. Easy to clean using wet wipes.
On the first day of my trip to Japan, I walked into a cafe and casually asked for a fork. The waiter smiled mysteriously and disappeared for about... 5 minutes. When he returned, he carefully handed me a fork dripping with water. I thought - what have I done! He must have spent a long time looking for it in the storeroom, or perhaps he asked for a fork in a nearby restaurant, then found it and washed it carefully. I didn't want to cause so much trouble and was very embarrassed. After that, I never asked for a fork and quickly learned to use chopsticks. Now for me this case is one of the facts of ideal Japanese service.
Yo procuro llevar mi tenedor ,cuchara,🤭🥴🥃👍
I had the opposite problem. It seemed like, in most places, that I went, I received a fork -- even though I didn't really need or want it. Visiting Japan was always a good way to refreshen my chopsticks skills.
The most clear video on how to use chop stick, thank you!
🙏🙏🙏✨✨✨✨✨✨✨
For those who want to practice, popcorn makes for an excellent practice food! Keeps your fingers clean, has lots of edges to grip, makes you eat slower so you don't eat as much. That's how my family learned to use chopsticks reliably!
🙇♂️✨✨✨
The best explanation of how to use chopsticks that’s works for me and with practice I hope to be more proficient. Thank you
I spent many years in the "far East" and learned through formal and practical study to be fluent in Mandarin - this is the best description of how to use 筷子 that I have ever seen!
🙇♂️✨✨✨
I’m glad to see that I’ve been doing it right all these years and what’s funny is that I learned how to do so by looking at the picture instructions on the chopstick paper wrapper 😂
Same! 😂
That is the way I was taught by my parents in the sixties as a child in the tradition of our Chinese upbringing.

You are a great teacher . Thank you Chef 😊
🙇♂️🙇♂️🙇♂️
I thank you for the lesson! From Texas USA!
🙇♂️✨✨✨
This is how I use chopsticks. It feels most natural to me. Thanks for the practical lesson Sensei!
This was the easiest to follow instructions, on how to hold and use chopsticks that I have ever seen! Thank you!
🙇♂️✨✨✨
Very clear & simple instructions. Not being a person of great manual dexterity, I will still, despite this video, never be able to use chopsticks. My first ever effort was in a fairly fancy restaurants with a scrumptious plate of tempura shrimp in front of me. My friends were all helping me learn, & I got that first shrimp picked up & eaten. Very proud, but we know what goeth before a great fall. I picked up shrimp #2, dipped into the sauce, started toward my mouth, & the ends of the chopsticks crossed. That shrimp went airborne & landed I know not where. I could not crawl under the table & hide b/c we were seated on the floor & the table was too low. One of my friends signaled the waitress & mouthed the word, "Fork." Thus ended my encounter w/ chopsticks, though not w/ tempura shrimp.
Thank you for your memories of chopsticks. Learning about another country's culture is difficult. I also study every day.✨✨✨
I would use my fingers to eat shrimp 😊
@@sushisamurai3506 I fear that I belong in an institution for the terminally clumsy---I even hold my pencil in an unconventional way, in spite of several teachers who tried to correct me! I find different cultures so fascinating---we have so much that we can learn from one another!
@@vintagelady1 I belong to the unable to use chopsticks crowd as well. I hold pencils or pens with thumb n forefinger not fore and middle. I can paint and draw , I can play piano, flute, clarinet, handle the reins of 4 in hand horses... chopsticks confound me, my Vietnamese friend tried for hours and then laughed and told me "good thing white people came up with forks, you'd starve if you were born in an Asian country" we had fun though, our hours long lesson in futility.
The best tutorial I’ve ever seen. Thank you.
🙇♂️✨✨✨
Excellent
Thanks so much! I'm left handed, so it's been hard for me to learn; you're right, it cramps your hand at first. I'm tired of having to ask for a fork instead of using the chopsticks at restaurants, and you were in my feed; talk about convenient! I'm going to have to practice a lot as a lefty, but I'll get it with this video, it's very clear. Thanks again!
🙏✨
A thousand thanks! After several years of testing and discouragement, I finally managed to handle chopsticks, thanks to your video. 🥢🤗🤗
I’ve been holding them wrong the whole time. No wonder I can’t pick up food good. Thank you for the lesson!

Beautiful instruction. Thank you.
A great thank for this practice, thank a lot
I will practice everyday
Thank you! I will practice. This makes so much sense!
I am excited to begin training! Thanks from Texas.
Thank you for your instruction. I do have trouble with chopsticks because, being American, we mostly use forks also, being a black southerner, I am in a totally different kind of minority. Some of my relatives look at me in astonishment when we eat at a Japanese restaurant and I am the only one using them 🤣. I learned when stationed at Kadena Air Force Base on Okinawa. I would really like to get better at using chopsticks when eating rice or noodles. Thanks again from Charleston, S.C. USA!!!
Being American?! In the US, in every place where they serve Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, or Japanese food, one can always pick up any number of chopsticks and try them right away. Chopsticks also come with sushi in all American supermarkets where it is sold. Many Americans I know personally have no trouble using them occasionally. For many dishes, chopsticks are way more convenient than anything else. And this is not only sushi. How can it become a problem? It takes just one meal to get more or less comfortable with them.
Thank you for such a clear explanation.
Totally awesome video thank you very much. Queensland Australia.
Thank you 🙏🏻💗
How cool is that? Now it works perfectly! Thanks!

Danke für diesen tollen Tipp 😊
Thank You
Very well taught
Very useful. Thank you.

My brother taught me how to use chopsticks when I was a kid, probably a pre-teen. It came to me very naturally, but I watched this to be sure. Yes, I've been doing it correctly for all these many years. Even so, this is good to know if I have the occasion to teach it to someone who may find it a struggle.
