And, the original vision of Al Bundy was him being a Black man, but with The Cosby Show showing a positive Black image, a Black AL Bundy would face a lot of backlash.

I was walking through O'Hare International Airport in the 90's, Jimmy Walker was walking in my direction looking me over while we walked in the other's direction. I had no idea it was Jimmy Walker and I was not trying to make eye contact, so I put on a real mean look on my face and rolled my eyes at him. Ultimately, he looked away and kept walking. It was when he passed by did I recognize it was Jimmy and suddenly I felt quite bad about my attitude. I still watch "Good Times" to this day. The actors were phenomenal. I love them all. ❤❤❤

  • Ralph and Bernadette, thank you for giving Esther Rolle her due props; I always knew she was a woman of high integrity and valor - which is notable, especially for a black woman to have power and influence in the entertainment industry at that time.

  • Ralph: It was a Thursday, Sunny and 74 degrees May 7th 1979 and it while I was eating a chef salad wearing a red shirt and jeans. His memory is phenomenal. 😂

    • @@TsepeteYeah ! But those names are characters they portrayed ! Some actors get offended when you refer to them as their character. It's respectful to call them by their actual name.

    • @@Tsepete, be that as it may, the appropriate thing to do would've been to introduce them by their government name, first, and THEN follow that with "better known as JJ, Thelma & Michael." Just out of respect.

  • I remember when Ralph Carter visited my elementary school in Crown Heights, Brooklyn - PS138. I was in 4th or 5th grade at that time. He came through the cafeteria and all of the kids were yelling Michael's here. We were so excited. We ran up to him and then the teachers sat us back down. That's it. I don't remember anything else about that day, but being happy to meet someone we recognize from watching tv. That was about 40 years ago. 😁
