Shout out to John Amos and Esther Rolle for being real role models and standing up for their TV kids and authentic Black culture.

Very good interview.
Ralph Carter missed his calling. Meaning, we should have been witnessing more of him over the years. Brilliant guy.
Maybe he didn't want that.
I still watch reruns of Good Times till this day. The best black show in the 70's there was morals, values, self respect, self worth, togetherness, family unity, spirituality 👌🏾
Me every Saturday always a marathon on TV One!!
I agree. Daily morning METV 9a-10a
I never get tired of watching Good Times
Same. I’m a 47 year old brown girl and I grew up loving the show. I must say, it brings a smile to my face to hear that Ester Rolle was very much the Momma I always knew she was in real life. It’s beautiful to see how conscious she was and how much she stood with her “kids” in real life. Bless her ❤
As do I watch reruns all the time ❤️
Don’t ask JJ a question unless you have the time to listen to a very long answer.
@JustHadToKnow 😂😂😂😂 Exactly
JJ doesn't know how to say long story short😁 smh
Bless his ❤!
That he don’t answer
Good thing he didn’t go into his politics, he’s definitely on the right…
Ralph got me speechless with his intellect. He truly is MICHAEL EVANS. He was made for that role.
Yes he were I agree 💯
Oh absolutely!!
No offense, but Ralph does not sound intelligent. It's kinda disappointing.
@@Johnny-gm9wo He sounds a little country. Yep. But he's a gentleman of some age now, too. He's not super well- spoken, repeats certain pet phrases over and over. 😬 But he definitely is passionate about his culture. He seems to have a very good heart. And damn, he's almost like a computer recalling facts. His recall of full names, dates and the days of the week from decades ago is amazing. I bet he has a photographic memory.
@@springboard1994 The fact that he was so serious about getting his High School diploma was just embarrassing. He's clearly uneducated. Seriously.

@Dynamo001 check YOUR hearing and apologize to the commentator above. At the 36:20 mark he specifically says that John Amos is the foundation of the show (along with Esther Rolle).
I can listen to Ralph Carter talk all day.
Then....you're not intelligent.
I met Jimmy Walker (JJ) in the Philly airport. He sat next to me and we ended up talking for hours. Very nice and humble guy.

How many times did you ask him to say "dynamite"
For hours? U miss your plane or what?
i usually hear the Opposite from Men but maybe they caught him on the "wrong" day.
You must be white, because he wants nothing to do with Black people.
I met BerNadette Stanis some years ago at an African Festival at Washington Park in Chicago. It was a rainy Sunday night. The crowd was light and she was standing at a booth selling her book. She was by herself. My friends were acting funny about paying their respect so I walked up to her and we talked for a good amount of time. I will never forget that night. She is Black History. She is Black Excellence. ❤
I met BernNadette back when I was a teenager in GA, and I wholeheartedly agree that she is Black Excellence, Black History and Beautiful inside and out 👑

I was working at the African Festival. Her ex-husband was the owner of Chicago Chicken and Waffle on King Dr
WOW! I also met her a few s years back in Rocky Mount NC at a southern soul festival in a booth selling her book. A buddy and I where walking around and I looked over and saw her, and automatically said Thelma . She heard me and started smiling and laughing, so I went to her booth and she was soooo nice and very friendly. And also gorgeous 😍
One of the most authentic interviews I’ve seen in a long time. No backstabbing, fighting or trying to steal the limelight from each other…just plain love & respect. I’m blown away by them all especially Ralph Carter. These are the positive guests that need to be featured on this show!!
JJ, Bernadette, and Ralph are so intelligent. I like that, so refreshing. They are not acting ghetto for fame or to get attention. They express and tell their stories very well. I love this interview with them for what I call old school intelligence.
*sounds like Ms. Esther Rolle really took on the motherly role on and off the set - REST IN POWER* ❤❤ 🤗

This is ICONIC & Netflix should be ashamed with that animation cause it’s so outrageously offensive & stereotypical
I love the original good times. But can that show be perceived as offensive and stereotypical as well? Growing up I didn’t see it. But now when I look at episodes, I be like oh wow lol. And btw I haven’t seen the animated series yet! But I’ve been hearing a lot of people saying it isn’t good.
I second that. That animation is an awful mess
Yea.....It's bad.
That new Good Times garbage slipped its way in because we are so far from the standard (in speaking of black cultures standard) that we think something as offensive as that is, is something funny.
Why would they even remake this into a cartoon? I haven't seen it and won't. They keep showing us over and over again they can't think of anything new. Industry execs have become shallower and shallower with their laziness, drug use, and sex parties.
Old school Chicagoans will tell you that Good Times is the greatest TV show of all time… Michael is deep,as advertised… Thelma still visits Chicago…She took,my number but said I was too young, she offered to hook me up with her daughter(whose also beautiful)… When I was in Kindergarten(1977) I brought my JJ doll to “Show and Tell “…You pull the string, and it’s says “Dynomite”…I love how each of them, give homage to others while telling their stories….Damn, they don’t make’em like they used to.

I am so proud of all three of them. I'm glad Jimmie, Bernadette, and Ralph turned out to be well rounded individuals beyond Good Times.
I am 55 and good times as you get one of the most iconic shows you ever want to see. The reruns are better than most new shows that are out now.💯
There are agendas behind these modern day shows. Ester Rolle and John Amos were protective of the youth when Good Times was running 🙏. These modern day folks are just out here fulfilling these agendas that are not good for the community.
I STILL WATCH THE RERUNS@68 The era and topics are still interesting to watch and funny!

Ralph Carter said that JJ Walker was well read and a person that he looked up to but when you listen to JJ talking about himself he starts to ramble and I can't see it. However, when JJ speaks about anyone else outside of himself he is very articulate and I can see why Ralph admires him.
That was like his big brother. They know what it feels like to sleep together on a pull out couch in the living room.
@@horizontoday7874LOL!!LOL!!
But the thing is, within 30 minutes of his ramblings, he does drop some bits and pieces of people and television shows that the public is/was nit suppose to'd know. Like the premise of Black'ish is Theo Huxtable married with his own family. And, the original vision of Al Bundy was him being a Black man, but with The Cosby Show showing a positive Black image, a Black AL Bundy would face a lot of backlash.

I love this interview. I have a Jimmy Walker story he would not know or recall at all. I was walking through O'Hare International Airport in the 90's, Jimmy Walker was walking in my direction looking me over while we walked in the other's direction. I had no idea it was Jimmy Walker and I was not trying to make eye contact, so I put on a real mean look on my face and rolled my eyes at him. Ultimately, he looked away and kept walking. It was when he passed by did I recognize it was Jimmy and suddenly I felt quite bad about my attitude. I still watch "Good Times" to this day. The actors were phenomenal. I love them all. ❤❤❤
Its kind of funny because John Amos( James) and Jimmy Walker was not too far apart in age. But because he was so small he played john's son. He looked much younger.
