Welcome to "Fun Mandarin 玩中文"!
This is our 'Beyond Words' series, where you can discover Mandarin words and expressions that carry intriguing meanings beyond their literal sense, and, most importantly, are frequently used in Mandarin conversations.
The first episode features expressions with COLORS in Mandarin. There are so many fun ones, but we have narrowed it down to four colors (Red, Black, White & Green) for the first episode.
All the expressions are presented with a dialogue and context - let’s see how many you can figure out! And make sure you stick around to the end as we have a bonus phrase for you!

  • im very happy that youtube has recommended your channel 😭😭 your content is quite useful and easy to understand. also, the examples make it even easier to remember the new phrases since they're not like textbook ones(i dont know much mandarin rn, but it wasn't difficult to guess the meaning with pics😅). 萬分感謝!!我學習簡體中文,可是我的‘’小‘’愛好也是學習繁體中文。如果一個人會看或者寫簡體漢字,我覺得他/她也會明白繁體字。雖然簡體漢字看很難,還是值得學習。 sorry if i made any mistakes 🙏 thanks again

    • It's always a pleasure to hear such positive feedback! ☺️ As you might be aware, I'm a strong advocate of the Communicative Approach, so new vocabulary or phrases should always be applied in meaningful contexts rather than just translating word by word or relying on mechanical memorisation. I believe this is the best way to master any language. I'm really pleased it works for you too! 👍 Your Mandarin is really impressive, and it's so lovely to see traditional characters in your comments! 👍👍👍I understand that for practicality, most Mandarin learners use simplified characters, but I agree with you that it's beneficial to be able to read both systems. Traditional characters are known for their complexity and greater number of strokes, making them daunting for Mandarin learners, especially in the initial stages of learning. However, once you get the hang of them, you'll find that the components in traditional characters are very effective for conveying meaning and memorising new ones. In my humble opinion, they will help you appreciate the beauty of the Mandarin language even more at a later stage. In this channel, we provide both simplified and traditional characters for the key phrases in the dialogues,so it's actually very beneficial for learners to see that both systems share quite a few similarities. I wish you good luck on your Mandarin journey and hope you find the other videos on this channel helpful as well! 😇

  • Very interesting lesson! In the opportunity, I wish that Jesus, the Name above all names (Phillipians 2), bless you, and may you feed from His Word and Salvation! 非常有趣的課!在這個機會中,我希望耶穌,這個高於一切名字的名字(腓立比書2),祝福你,願你從他的話語和救恩中餵養!
