A new universe awaits on Netflix, starting December 22.
From Zack Snyder, the filmmaker behind 300, Man of Steel, and Army of the Dead, comes REBEL MOON, a 2-part movie event decades in the making.
After crash landing on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe, Kora (Sofia Boutella), a stranger with a mysterious past, begins a new life among a peaceful settlement of farmers. But she soon becomes their only hope for survival when the tyrannical Regent Balisarius (Fra Fee) and his cruel emissary, Admiral Noble (Ed Skrein), discover the farmers have unwittingly sold their crops to the Bloodaxes (Cleopatra Coleman and Ray Fisher) - leaders of a fierce group of insurgents hunted by the Motherworld.
Tasked with finding fighters who would risk their lives to defend the people of Veldt, Kora and Gunnar (Michiel Huisman), a tenderhearted farmer naive in the realities of war, journey to different worlds in search of the Bloodaxes, and assemble a small band of warriors who share a common need for redemption along the way: Kai (Charlie Hunnam), a pilot and gun for hire; General Titus (Djimon Hounsou), a legendary commander; Nemesis (Doona Bae), a master swordswoman; Tarak (Staz Nair), a captive with a regal past; and Milius (E. Duffy), a resistance fighter. Back on Veldt, Jimmy (voiced by Anthony Hopkins), an ancient mechanized protector hiding in the wings, awakens with a new purpose. But the newly formed revolutionaries must learn to trust each other and fight as one before the armies of the Motherworld come to destroy them all.

  • And to think Snyder wrote this to be set in the Star Wars universe and Disney said "no" ... so he said "then I'll just make it even more epic and do it for myself". And then he did just that. Looks amazing.

    • Don't keep falling for that nonsense. He already confirmed he's releasing extended cuts for both parts of this film, which means its not the studios that keep telling him to release shorter versions that he later has to bring out extended directors cuts on. He does that himself. He had extended cuts for watchmen and sucker punch and BvS and JL. How come other directors don't have this problem? You lot are kidding yourselves that he's being prevented from his vision that the studios are always cutting down otherwise it's Netflix doing it now or he wouldn't have to bring out an extended one here too. This is a Snyder thing.

This story, while it has potential, is a D+ story with so many contrived points and plot holes, with a plank of wood quest reward characters. No real character arc, a huge hypocritical plot. 90% of this had no reason to happen. Did they free a captured general to get captured again? Even tho they got out, rebel guy cuts thru a group of soldiers, i mean a Battalion, that just for whatever reason DON'T turn sideways. To die taking out a single gunner on a ship that happened to have the controls...HUGE ship, little cockpit. The screen presence of the main character. Makes me feel like i got a real shot at acting, have never done little more than a school play 38+ years ago. Its a movie for people who hate all that story getting in the way for sure. I am particularly interested to see how Snyder interprets the science fiction genre. He has a unique vision and style, and I am sure that he will create something truly unique. I am also curious to see how Snyder develops the characters in Rebel Moon. He has a knack for creating characters that are both relatable and complex. I am sure that the characters in Rebel Moon will be just as memorable as the characters in his other films. And, I am very excited for Rebel Moon. I think it has the potential to be one of the best science fiction films of the year.

It has a great playstation game feel and the visuals are very nice. The storyline is not complicated and I thought the pace was balanced (one critique was the pace). Action sequences are also good as expected from Director Zack Snyder. Overall this is definitely one of the more enjoyable ride on Netflix. Looking forward to Part 2.

Mcu earning money isn’t DUE to its use of cgi (which was infamously underdeveloped) but to other things. Snyder is using the same mistake he did with “Suckerpunch” in that Moon doesn’t have a large following but has very unrealistic levels of cgi. And sucker punch did horribly in theaters. No studio is going to risk funding this or put this on a wide release outside of streaming. Lord of the rings for instance has a humongous following, and used practical effects, miniatures and cgi like icing on the cake. The characters actually look like they’re in those environments and the non human characters were mostly in costumes with prosthetics and makeup. This is important because it aids in the suspension of disbelief.
