Former TCU receiver Quentin Johnston is the consensus #1 receiver in the 2023 NFL Draft class. Here's how he projects as an NFL prospect.

Watching this post-draft as a Chargers fan. It seems like his issues are pretty coachable, and it helps that he's not going to come in and be the #1 or #2 (or possibly even #3 with josh palmer) Telesco talked up his work ethic in the post draft presser, hopefully that combined with our coaching staff and some time he ends up cooking into a good primary receiver
That is fair. I just hope he doesn’t bust man. And even more ideally become great sooner than it took Mike Williams
He's gonna be a monster if he gets good with his routes with Keenan and good with his catching with Mike
He’s a 1st round pick. We want him contributing immediately. He needs to be playing WR2 opposite Williams so we can move Allen in the slot permanently.
@@kevinmendoza5328 He will be contributing immediately. Supposedly, he is very focused on improving, so I expect him to be working his ass off during the offseason
He’s going to get to learn from Keenan and Mike Dub too!
Johnston, welcome to the Chargers! ⚡
great video as usually Billy. can not thank you enough for all of this content.
I always find the critique he only does 5 routes really well and thats limiting as funny considering every wr has limited ability to run different routes and tend to make their mon3y on about 5 routes.
Good idea on updating the title which the team name. Showed up right in my recommendation
This is it!! I love that you just don’t mimic the hype that the brand name websites do. I wish you had a segment on NFL Network man.
He’ll be fine, Keenan will teach him how to perfect his routes and Big mike will teach him how to attack the ball on the contested catches 💯
recognize you from the chargers community on BR… and i agree with everything you said. he’s in the perfect situation
@@coleworld2429 that’s wassup 💯 and facts fam I think QJ has the highest potential out of all the rookie WRs in this draft class 💯
Im gonna come right back to this channel when he proves everyone wrong. Day 2 receiver? Hes the best wr in this draft class.
Can you do one of these deep dives on Georgia Techs Keion White? From what I’ve seen he looks electric but I think I need to see more. Keep up the hard work these vids are phenomenal!!
Always a great day when you upload!
Johnston is my WR1. He's the complete package at WR athletics-wise. Hope he falls to 18 so my Lions can snap him up.
Glad my Bolts got him but your team had a great draft too. You guys already have a pretty good WR room.
Passive route runner.
really good videos. hope they come more... Downs, Flowers, Addison... and the TEs...
BEST WR BREAKDOWN I HAVE EVER WATCHED WOW, AMAZING.
I am ready for his talent! Nice selection.
Just found your channel and love your analysis. I’m surprised you don’t have 100k + subs. It’d would be awesome to see your take on Addison and Flowers
Thank you so much for the kind words! Not sure if I’ll get to those guys before draft day, but my big board is up on my patreon!
Keenan allen will coach him up. His releases and routes will be much better in the nfl.. Herbert throws lasers so his body catching wont be much of a problem. Mike williams also catches with his body.
flowers wouldve been better
@@sergiorocha76 Flowers is 7 inches shorter and only ran a 0.07 sec faster 40 time. I think ppl are overrate Flowers' speed. He ran a 4.42. He's not a Tyreek or Waddle type player
@@corvenzo221 agree Flowers is hella overrated, I get he’s shifty but he’s not Tyreek
I think his ability warrants a first round pick thus year with how important YAC has become for receivers. I think the only true #1 receiver this year is JSN, but Johnston could be a high level 2 X receiver. I hope my cowboys can pair him with Ceedee and it would be perfect.
"QJ is Electrifying" THATS WHAT I LIKE TO HEAR ⚡⚡⚡⚡
bro you high if you think he's a second round pick. he will be one of the best wr in the league day 1 even with his issues, many of which are vastly overblown.
How is an issue like having a contested catch rate under 50% while being 6’4 being overblown. He doesn’t have enough speed to consistently create separation on deep balls in the league so that contested catch ability has to be great as an X receiver.
@YRG Mokuteke did you watch all contested catches? Was the ball placement good or bad?
Can you do one of these on day 2 and 3 values? I think Bryce Ford-Wheaton is a 5th rounder that could be a stud in 2-3 years.
That’s a good idea. Lots of late round values I like this year. I’ve got a couple more guys I’d like to cover, but I’ll try to fit it in before draft day
Nice video
found u from a qr code sticker ❤
W vid again
Soothsayer!!!
Came here to cope after my chargers drafted him at 21, not feeling any better after watching this smh
Lol same. Except I keep telling myself that he has Mike to learn contested catching from and Keenan to learn routes from. Probably just cope but if u need to get better at those things those are some of the best teachers u can have.
I like the fact he’s good at YAC tho I think anyway he’ll be a nice asset but we maybe could’ve get better
It all comes down to how coachable he is. Can't teach size and speed which he has.
@@jeremynelson2773 from what staley and telesco said, he has a good work ethic. im hoping he puts in work this offseason to prove everyone wrong
@@youngab3664 Yeah I guess my biggest problem is with everyone that was still available. Hoping this is just another case of most Chargers fans being wrong like we were with wanting Tua over Herbert lol some guys even wanted us drafting a LB over him. Only time will tell but hope QJ proves he's worth it
Another great video. Do you rate him above JSN?
No. I gave JSN a first round grade
how tf did u predict the chargers getting him
Edited the header after the fact
I can see him being used in short yardage situation and in the red zone...I just think it would have been better to get a TE that could help more in the 3rd and Short situation...
Super Terrance Williams
Newest Charger!
Could you do Drew Sanders?
It doesn't matter hes a rare x that doesn't come along but every so many classes. So what if he's a 3 route randy that occupies cb and safrey most of the game. Spread out by default help to anyone trying to work inside. Presence of acceleration and size alone is helpful in forcing defense to scheme for it.
it seems like... his routes are meant to "run to a designated area of the field and wait for the ball to come" rather than with the intention of getting open
Not sure what the Chargers were thinking with Addison on the board.
Guys arent drafted for the players they are in college. Theyre drafted based on what a team thinks they can become. Its all projection and theres no such thing as a sure thing. Id be shocked if he fell out of the 1st round.
Not entirely true
@@Aaron-wq3jz Its 100% true. If a team has their choice over a raw but elite athlete or a polished but average athlete, theyre taking the raw elite athlete every time in hopes they can turn him into something special. Its why guys like Derrius Heyward Bey are top 10 picks and guys like Keenan Allen fall to the 3rd round or later. Sure sometimes they have polish and elite athletic traits but those guys are few and far between.
@@williamhermann6635 yeah, anthony richardson is a number 4 pick when his college production and tape does not warrant that at all. They are drafted with pro projection in mind, and many times teams are looking for the home run guy in the first round.
Kelce as a reciver
Do Rasheed Rice
He does not look that good in my opinion. Solid piece maybe but not more than that, this crop of receivers are much worse than what we've seen the last few years.
jsn is still an amazing prospect. he’s just a slot guy. and they’re just not very valuable
Addison, smith njigba, Zay flowers, Josh downs and even Johnston r all easy potential 1s or 2s at the next level. Idk how that’s not good😂
None of them will be nearly as good as Jefferson or Chase. I doubt they will be as good as Dotson, but hopefully 1 or 2 will.
Fr
@@ballsballsballs3617 they aren’t accept jsn. This wr class doesn’t compare to the previous yrs
Hi-ur cousin
massive frame but cant catch with his hands
Dec 2023…this is still valid
those unnecessary jumps end up being dropped passes when your playing NFL corners with real strength
Those underthrown passes lead to unnecessary jumps/early stops and dropped passes.
Chargers just took him at 21 when he's a middle day 2 guy... DOH! Chargers should have taken Dalton Kincaid bruh.
Maybe not. The receivers started dropping and he has the best physical skills
Soooo a big body WR who doesn’t make contested catches, is a poor route runner, and has mediocre hands? Combine that with the unimpressive 4.50 40 at his pro day for a “vertical threat WR” and you have bust written all over.
You’ll see
6’3 215 40 inch Vert and 4.49 … that’s big time
Won’t know until he touches the field.
@@younggoose7315 *4.52
@@joshf-w9602 nah 4.49 is the time but even then he plays faster than that so it don’t really matter
I think i would have rather taken TE from notre dame. This guy needs work.
Guy who doesn't run good routes and can't reliably get open, sounds like N'keal Harry. Pass.
Different sort of player but I wouldn’t have picked him in the 1st either
He’s not consensus #1
Chargers drafted a 3rd round talent in the first round😖😖😖
Okay armchair gm lol show us your draft history.😂
Can’t blame Johnston for those bad catches blame duggan for bad defense reading smh
Excuses
