I think Dricus can kind of stifle strickland's pressure the way cannonier did. Strickland tends to give ground up to power hitters like cannonier or big wrestling threats like usman. Dricus is kind of both of those things.
Idk I think cannonier is alot more controlled than this guy. Ddp is shot out of a cannon. I see little to no reservation in this dude
They are both powerful switch hitters that like to kickbox. Cannonier might be more controlled, but that isn't always a good thing, and ddp has the td threat to go along with the above mentioned skills@@ahamilton1189
But sean can beat Canonier and got robbed.
No to both of those things.@@omarisawesome1996
The usman fight is irrelevant. That was ages ago. Completely different fighters now.
That description of DDP having big puppy energy is bang on!!
I love how the more Dricus gasses, the better he does
Exactly!
Best breakdowns in the game. Not even close. What I would be really interested in, is seeing what Stricklands heartrate sits at when he's plodding along walking people down. That plus the fact he is constantly sparring, he must feel comparatively relaxed compared to many other fighters.
i feel any fighter at the top level all feel the same during the fight it’s the before that is different i think. like cowboy for example he says he is sick before his fights but by time he is fighting id bet he is ina “fighting state” if you wanna call it that
Mentality in the cage is the biggest factor in who will win the fight. Almost no one has the mental aspects figured out. All fighters talk about this...
Good thought lol
@beaualoevv Noone expected that. Bad night for Izzy. Good night for Strickland. Dan isn't a seer. He doesn't get it right all the time.
@@beaualoevv And so did basically everyone. He's an analysts. Not a mystic, he used the information and evidence he had.
Hands down the best channel when it comes to MMA/Boxing breakdown and analysis....bar none
MMA Guru gets bigger numbers.
bigger numbers doesnt = best in the game@@SatoshiShintoMe
Guru is the new face off the UFC. Dan should reach out to him and try to save his career. Guru is HIM.@@Blast3rrProduction
Mma guru? Fucks that?, he a fighter?
@@SatoshiShintoMewtf? He’s not even close to Dan. What with his emotional, girly, butt hurt analysis.
The way DDP moves reminds me of a mixture of Keith jardine and gaethje lol
Dan is a proper gentleman
@@beaualoevv literally the best combination 🤣
Don't assume Dan's gender
Definitely an up dog

I've been waiting on this one! Love the breakdowns, thanks for all you do, Dan!
I'm a fan of Sean Strickland, but I got DDP by stoppage in the 2nd round in this one. My hunch is that Du Plessis' conditioning in the 4th round is a moot point, and will continue to be for the best part of his career. Plus, I feel like DDP's blitzing is on a different level. The amount of ground he covers, the speed with which he covers it, and the precision and power of his shots as he's flying forward... it's just menacing. Very interesting fight, can't wait to see it
Sean has been training for that blitz his whole camp. Seriously doubt he’s going to be bull rushed.
I’m think DdP stoppage too but maybe 4th rd if it goes distance prob either way imo.
That won't happen. Shaun just batters RDP into submission.. Either Rd 3 or 4
Admit it Dan, Sean is growing on you! At first you didn’t like him, and then you realized he’s a good fighter but still said he’s just not fun to watch, but now you’re kinda rooting for him! Haha I love it. Thanks for these awesome breakdowns
DDP to shock the world again 🇿🇦🇿🇦
net so
Hulle weet nie wat ons weet nie.
Possibly…but it won’t shock the world half as much as when Sean schooled Izzy
Great breakdown Dan. Always enjoy these! Hope and still
Thank you Dan, appreciate it mate.
I enjoy and appreciate your breakdowns greatly. I think you're the best one on here breaking down fights. Cheers to you.
I feel like Dricus will not get tired, now that he's got his nose fixed. He didn't get tired in the Whittaker fight and that was a pretty high output battle. Also, not true he's never done a 5-rounder. He mentioned that he was a champ in some African promotion and has done loads of 5 rounders. Plus he trains at elevation so I think that will also factor in. I see him catching Strickland with his wild style in the first 3 rounds.
Dricus couldn't catch a cold. War Strickland sends your boy home in a plywood box.
Round 1
@@charlesbrown4483Yeah like he's ever knocked anybody out
@@Stevoman123 11 people actually, genius😂
@@charlesbrown4483 well, 4 in the ufc, and you cannot compare dricus to the bottom feeders of the division or abus who just fucking gave up. i'm sure sean can win i just kinda see it going similar way as ngannou rozenstruik
You rock Danny Boy...!!!!....love your game bruh..!!! Always delivering the goods ❤🎉
Thanks for the breakdowns Dan! You give me most of the knowledge I have about the fight game!
As always, the best fight breakdown
Dan I love you! You are the best of the best for fight breakdowns and always wait for yours! 🙏
Hell yeah this is a great breakdown. One thing no one really talks about is how good Sean’s hand fighting is. He’s a tricky guy.
Not against guys with good power the only power puncher besides dricus he's faced in forever his style got him slept by alex power shuts that style down
@@Warpathjak Alex is a much different kind of striker than dricus. Dricus style is very dependent on him over extending and moving forward. Alex caught Sean as he was coming forward with a left hook. Alex can do that all day to anyone he wants to. Dricus isn’t known for that and Sean’s parrying and defensive hand fighting is a lot harder to overcome when he’s closed the gap on you and he’s in your face. Dricus doesn’t fight in the pocket like Sean does and dricus gets hit way more than Sean does.
He’s defense is on another level the stats show it too. Dan called it shit prior to Izzy now, he’s underestimating ddp imo. I think Sean’s TD defense the real ? In this fight.
Dan, keep up the great work lad. Seeing a new video on your channel ALWAYS brightens my day. Thank you for what you do!
Terrific breakdown, Dan. At different stages of this fight we can be sure to witness (In small increments) all what you have articulated. Thank you for sharing your wide spread knowledge and insight with us. Call it a gut-feel, but I believe DDP finds a way in.
Hardly gut instinct, its highly likely
Yea I’m surprised he didn’t dig into ddp past fights, when he looks tired he hits another level but Sean can too. Should be epic!
I always enjoy your fight assessments, they are well thought out and with a mixture of experience and a discerning eye. You pointed out certain aspects of each fighter that caused me to change my thoughts on the fight.
Love your breakdowns. Sean the enigma. Philly shell successfully adapted for mma. This match is exciting, love the high level animosity. DDP seems extremely strong and dangerous. Sean seems supremely fit with a very high pressure super frustrating style. I can see so many outcomes. I wouldn't bet on this unless it was just a few bucks between friends to increase the excitement.
Calling Sean an enigma is crazy. He’s got the simplest striking toolbox 😅
Dude, that's the enigma. Has the simplest tools but ultra refined and paired with incredible reflexes and focus so he can stifle someone like Adesanya.
It's crazy how D'Sean landed so much in the head against elite strikers. @@Radjhitoocool
Good breakdown... fair and well mannered too.
Best break down on YT baby
Fantastic as always
Lovely little analysis Dan, let's not forget Till also reversed Dricus on the ground.
Then rolled over a few minutes there after as I recall? LargePuppy should've never been provoked. Lessons learned.
Respect that you are giving sean his props
Haha! And props to you for giving respect for Dan’s prop providing prose. Fkn 🤡
I really enjoy 😊 listening to you break down a fight. You are incredible brother ❤⚡️🤙👍👊✅👏👏👏
Both men with incredible cardio but DDP has more weapons including wrestling, judo and submission threats. Sean so often goes the distance like Leon Edwards. They don’t put their foot on the gas and let their opponents into the fight. DDP is a finisher so it’s a dangerous game to play with him.
Not saying DDP can't win, but DDP hasn't showed us he has incredible cardio.
Yup
Where'd you get the shirt???? I have one from 2007, and I can't find a replacement for it.
Great video Dan
Dan Hardy is that you!? I didn't recognize you. Glad I found your channel. Entertaining as always, great analysis!
Awesome analysis Dan! I can't really root for either of these guys. That's probably the best way to enjoy the fight.
Nice. Love your elite insight!
i cant wait to come back here after the fight and comment back laughing . ddp will do the same as he did with Rob
Reading these comments I was just thinking the same thing.
Bro your analysis is always clever and technical. Hey I reckon DDP could try and catch Strickland teep/front kick, drive him back and try ground and pound. I think Strickland leaves his leg out for long enough to grab when he kicks.
A must watch now are the Dan Hardy Breakdowns. MMA & Boxing, any combat sports really...dam I'd listen to Dan breaking down Black Sabbath and other metal and punk albums!!
Why aren’t these on BT/TNT anymore? Enjoyed the access to the footage!
I’ve been waiting for this one
“BIG puppy energy” 😂 Absolutely BRILLIANT and apropos analogy Dan! 👌
Love your analysis ... next week once you're commenting on the new champion. Let's go bokke 🇿🇦
Hey I thought your analysis was the most brilliant of all the ones I've seen thus far! You did show a clear path for Strickland, assuming all things have been equal. I'm not sure if they are now because DDP had his nose operated on and he can stop breathing out of his mouth now. I have a feeling that's going to make a huge difference for him. Although it could throw off his rhythm of breathing and usual pace. I think this could be a huge factor in his energy and Going the Distance. He is the younger man and he is a physical specimen in phenomenal condition. I also like both these guys but I have to root for Strickland! I'd like to see him hold the belt a while longer. If he were to lose I won't be too disappointed because DDP is pretty cool I would love to see Strickland pound him though!
The way DDP fights reminds me of a mix between a freshly caught sardine and a gift basket of bespoke cheeses and handmade preservatives.
if you look back on the cannonier fight against strickland, cannonier and ddp has similar fighting style. it's a high chance strickland is going to get tko'd or submitted
You do know that Connonier won by split decision right...
@@kevjz5891 Because he was on his back foot all night. Sean will want to prove something aganist DDP and will push forward. He could easily get clipped like he did against Alex.
@@socialmediaego you cant really compare the way alex sets up his punches to ddp. On top of that Sean does way too much sparing to be all that emotional in the fight.
@@kevjz5891and the one judge that went with Strickland was completely left field. Cannonier won that fight hands down.
All I'm hearing from Dan is the potential of how Strickland can beat DDP. Not really balanced.
In fairness I'm convinced Strickland will blow this fight 😢 So I'm curious about what he can do to win instead
1. Duplexes not going to be skirting on the very much if any at all 1% chance he does it a little. And once again it will go completely different than what you're talking about. It's fun though. I get it big endorphin rush when you guys are all wrong. Lol😅 makes the win sweeter.
DDP it's going to knock them out or beat him around for round, it might look like Tony Ferguson and gajthe. Sean looking beat to crap but like Diaz still trying his best
What happened to the slo-mo screen features sir? Those were the best!
another great breakdown
Please bring back the inside the octagon format with past footage analysis, Dan. Thanks
I am super excited for this fight.
I love the way Strickland carries himself. I think he might get dominated if he can't keep it in boxing range. Not cheering for DDP but he is a monster at 85 with the physicality. War SS either way.
I dunno man Strickland does really good on the ground with anka.
This is one of the most exciting fights for a while in the UFC, could go either way really. If i had to make a prediction i think Strickland by late stoppage or decision
Ddp late stoppage or sean decision* 😉
The thing with ddp is if he is gassing, hes put enough pressure on his opponent with large puppy energy that they are also gassing themselves
Which fights exactly? Heavy breathing isn't "gassing" FYI.
Thank you!
DDP is either steamroll him early 1st or 2nd round, over the distance Sean definitely has a huge advantage
Ddp is not steamrolling sean, get real. Sean can brawl as well
@@user-kf7ov2fi4h Sean’s chin isn’t infallible, a knockout is possible with DDP he had power, the ability to take him down is also there for DDP, DDP doesn’t have a long gas tank though, so yeah I stick to my statements
Yeah, one of them will probably win. Well done.
@@oggyoggy1299 Yes
I think we'll find out pretty quick if DDP has been working on his clinch
Dan is by far the best at breaking down fights! This should be a really good fight, if it goes past 2 I think Sean takes it!
Why is there no fight footage anymore? Copyright?
Dan you have the best breakdowns in the game no doubt... However I see it going different... Strickland by flying liver-hold rd2... mark my words 💯💯
Very well presented. 👏👏👏
Amazing how in most of DDP's fights that the commentators talk about DDP looking tired and then he smashes his opponents after that... DDP Summary of wins: 12 wins in Round 1 (majority by submission or KO/TKO) 5 wins in Round 2 (all by KO/TKO or stoppage) 2 wins in Round 3 (one by submission and one by KO/TKO) 1 win by Decision (round not specified) 2 losses, both in Round 3 by punches. DDP Summary of wins in UFC: 1 win in Round 1 by KO/TKO. 3 wins in Round 2 (2 by KO/TKO, 1 by stoppage). 1 win in Round 3 by submission. 1 win by Unanimous Decision after a full 3-round fight.
Important question. Where did you get those shades? Leaving for vacay soon and need a pair.😂
Love that both styles aren’t “traditional” but that’s why it’s MMA. I’m leaning towards DdP in the 4th. Feel like he’s an adjust on the fly, needs to be losing a little first type fighter. But also one of these newly evolved fighters that can bring whatever is needed to the table. Gonna depend on Sean’s TD defense too. Should be a banger!
Great summary! What you described makes common sense. If DDP doesn't tag Strickland early on he'll gas trying. DDP has an explosive/chaotic style but it has a cost and I don't buy the nose surgery argument. Who breathes through their nose when really pushed? DDP probably has a submission advantage but the stats say Strickland has negated this against previous opponents. I call a decision to Strickland as DDP only just hangs on by the end.
the nose surgery must not work because he still trains with mouth WIDE open and even if it worked.....it doesnt give him a good or great gas tank it would just make it not as big of an issue but nobody got a nose surgery and came out with Sean Stricklands cardio I think they forget dricus can still have a sub par gas tank even if his nose works. Especially the body type and style.
I don't think this fight is going five rounds. Either DDP stops him within 2 rounds or Sean gets a TKO in the 4th or 5th.
Great analysis. I preferred it over Bisping's. One unmentioned factor is DDPs recent nose operation. He was only getting 8% oxygen before. Not anymore. If Strickland wins I think at some point DDP comes back and captures the belt.
I believe that nose crap is a bunch of bullsht... dricus gasses because hes a big huge reckless guy. Will his cardio be better, sure.. but I just don't think it'll be a huge margin.
@@SwampOperator your observation may be considerably more important.
Dan, big respect but the Till fight, he threw like 70 punches. I reckon you would also be tired after throwing 70 strikes.
DDP will not hesitate to attack from the start and I see him trying to eliminate Sean in 1st round by TKO or knockout. He wants to showcase his ability to be fast on the mark and give Sean trouble of not expecting to be on the back foot which Sean wants to try and dictate with forward movement.
Sean and his camp have been training for that blitz the whole camp. I doubt he gets caught.
Dan have yourself and Mrs H got a prediction show dropping this week? Looking suave on the AJ Ngannou broadcast today 👍🏻
Also, it seems like Duplesis has to feel perfect in order to perform. Like the rolled ankle, then he said that he got a brain freeze from the cold water and was scared that he wouldnt be able to fight... so if he gets injured a bit, i want to see if he quits! Lets go SS!
16:15 Strickland has been training wrestling with Ankalaev for some time; there are training videos on KZhead. Ankalaev always says that Strickland is hard to take down, and he seems to be doing well in the training videos, but then again, Khamzat said he had no problem taking his back.
Khamzat takes backs like that because he's a 1 round threat. He usually gets it, but when he dont he's screwed. Sparring is not fighting.. You can wrestle and grapple 100 percent in sparring where it's usually not like that with striking. And even in hard sparring most people wear headgear. Also khamzat may be taking his back. But dont you think they were doing that for a reason.. you think sean might have learned a thing or two?? Dricus DuPlessis isn't khamzat. Dricus DuPlessis isn't poatan
@@SwampOperator "Also khamzat may be taking his back. But dont you think they were doing that for a reason.. you think sean might have learned a thing or two??" The reason I brought that up is because I assumed they trained MMA based on what Khamzat said, and I know both of these guys train like they fight. There's a reason why even Strickland's best friend, Curtis, doesn't sparr with him. My point with the comments is that I didn't know where Strickland's takedown defense was because no one wrestles at MW anymore (until recently). The last time his wrestling was tested before this fight was against Usman in WW in which he failed, but that doesn't mean anything because it was a long time ago against one of the best mma wrestlers. Anyway now way I know his TD is good, DDP was deep and unpredictable with some of those attempts, but he defended most of them, and he knows how to get up.
Ddp the new mw champ for a very long time, they will try and analyse him for a long time and get it wrong every fight🔥🏆🇿🇦and team CIT
Constant forward pressure seems to be a commonality between many of the recent champions Khabib, Sean Strickland, *DDP, ...etc..
HYPED
"Thrived then fatigued" - yes. DDP trains at altitude in Pretoria
11:06 this lines of analysis give me goosebumps. Best breakdowns in the game
I like Shaun Strickland.. A real character. He never gets the respect he deserves. I hope he wins decisively.
Wasn't DDP fighting with one nostril for most of his career. It's only the last fight, he founght post nose op. Think this is worth considering when it comes to his conditioning. We'll see
My friends and I call the title fight of the underdogs. Because both these guys would be an underdog in a title fight with any other high level fighter in their weight class. Love this breakdown, keep up the good work!
Strickland’s style is like waterboarding.
G'wan Dan Hardy...shake it down for us dude
Best thing about this is the tshirt.
Great shirt, Dan.
Got a feeling that cardio will be a lot better for DDP since he got his nose fixed.
What gives you that feeling? Is it because he got his nose fixed?
No fight highlights? Seems a bit short
Yep I feel confident let me say this shocking statement. After three rounds Sean will look worse than DDP,
Wheres the playback slow video????
This is a tough one to call for me
Outlaw picks podcast??
Hardy not giving Dricus enough credit. I can see he has Sean on this one
Uh, yeah he literally said he's taking Stickland and explain the reasons why. This is a fight breakdown video. Are you lost?
Dan, you have been one of my favorite as a fighter and even more as an pundit and analysist. You know DDP is too much for Sean. Just be honest
Wicked taste in t-shirts Dan.
I think the x factor in this fight could be the Pereirra knockout. If Dricus can duplicate that power and timing, Sean is in trouble. However, I think Sean can figure Dricus out and out point him to a decision win.
Yes, my golden retriever is like this when people come around, he has zero concept he’s 90lbs
Funny that same thing got said about fight with Bobby, that He doesnt have a threat of being taken down after being there with Romero, Brunson and Vettori. Look how well that went. As much as I love your breakdowns when you watch this one you can feel lack of objectiveness because of how you feel about Strickland's unorthodox style.
Idk Dan, Two-Nostril DDP may have amazing cardio
Like your Thai Amulet Sir!😊
Dan, I’d take your knowledge over any other channel. FULL REPTILE
Why aren't you mentioning his Robert Whittaker fight where he dominated Whittaker from the start until the end. Because in that fight he looked a whole lot better, even the Brad Tavares fight where he had to make adjustments after Round 1 and completely dominated Tavares for the next 2 rounds, making the poor man leak so bad.
He did mention it. And Dricus did not dominate from the start to the end. Whittaker was winning the first 4 minutes of round 1.
@@jimmyrodriguez5670Please watch the fight again, DDP even took Rob down in the first round and if there was more time he would have finished him too.
