I stand with McCants on the Gobert discussion. Best defender/rebounder on a top ranked team. Wemby’s stats were phenomenal but he didn’t play enough minutes with lead to his team having the 4th most losses in the league. That amount of L’s can’t possibly add up to any kind of NBA defensive player of the year. Wemby’s day will come probably as soon as next year. As for this season just blame Pop for the minutes restriction and intentional losing.

I think it could go either way, but the league will probably support the team that tried to win instead of the team going for the lottery. The help Gobert gets could be him commanding the rest of the team on defense. When you're DPOY, you can say "hey, this is what I'm gona do and this is what I need yall to do." That what anchors do and it shows when the team plays great team defense. That's where the KG comparison comes in. You can make the argument that Wemby failed to make his team better defensively and just focused on playing all the defense alone. I personally wouldn't blame him for that cause he's a rookie, but that's probably why the league will make him wait for his. Once he's the man and they're winning, he'll win it every year

1. The dpoy should be split into 3 position categories PF/C SG/SF PG 2. Outside of Ben Wallace I've never seen a center that could slow down a scoring center or power forward unless they were bigger and quicker Centers and power forward aren't expected to be lockdown defenders As one on one defenders there more help defenders Draymond I disagree with comments because watching him play in his prime I've seen him actually slow guys down from scoring like say Blake griffin Kevin love . But he doesn't have elite rebounding talent or size for it or shot blocking but he is tremendous at contesting shots. Give the extra effort and he is clutch in rebounding And hustle 50/50 balls 3. Marcus smart and jrue holiday don't really stop guys or you would of seen Boston already win a chip considering you don't have to score much of your smart. As well they look better against second and third option scorers. 4. I do agree it's an individual award so wmby should win but I think the def stats themselves need to change because there aren't enough Primary defensive stats Example Blocks/ contest. not just blocks Steals/ deflections And a metric for when you guard a Top say 30 scorer. When your on them and they attempt a shot. What's there percentage with you on them. Or position based. What's the percentage amongst guys top 10 at scoring at your own position when you guard them. Def rebounds will always be a big stat But is only relevant at pf/c I'm ore interested in the other stats for the other 3 positions
