This is it people, our last dance with the Money Pit Rally e36. We’ve done it all, even slapped a pretty rad livery on our e36 to make it look the part of a proper rally car. Yea, spend some time on youtube and rich people showing off their supercars actually kinda loses its appeal. This is more in reach. Maybe not all 13,000 (especially for me), but people can see how to do one or two of the mods and just source the parts from ebay.
They really did nothing to make this reliable though? For 13k I could probably build an entire car that would beat this one on a dirt track. Cooling isn't really above any beyond for this car.

Probably because the Miata got multiple videos for the turbo
They did every little thing on the miata down to radio and shift knobs. This one only got things that should make it faster to drive offroad and not much else.
Some of the shots in this episode are EPIC. GG to the camera crew and the editing team. Sad to see another Money Pit car go, but hope we get some episodes based on the Silvia soon.

Money Pit is EASILY the greatest series on this channel. It could warrant being it's own channel outright. Only Hilow can compete with this series. As funny as peaking the mic shouting "HRSPWERS" is the first eight thousand times, Money Pit has more subdued humor along with pseduo-scientific testing and useful, practical information, bundled with some education on top of it. Money Pit taught me how suspension components worked, which was an area I was really lacking in. Continue the series, it's the absolute best Donut has to offer.
I would love to see a professional rally driver take this car out for a spin and have a discussion afterwards on their opinion on the car and it’s upgrades. Were some necessary? Are there any more they would suggest?

Brakes. Look at the brakes on this thing when they replace the exhaust they are old and probably super inefficient
You should do the most important upgrade. Get a lesson from a professional and see how much time you can shave off. I'd like to see how that stacks up compared to the vehicle mods. I'll be clear you did great driving I'm just sure there is room for improvement.
X amount of mods vs X amount of driving lessons would be a pretty cool concept!

If this is the final episode of the season, the next one should be an old restoration. It's the most different from the racing minded builds so far and one of the most popular routes car enthusiasts take in their diy journeys. I'm sure the Nolans of the world would love it too

Congratulations on an awesome build! Loved watching this entire series and learned a lot about mechanical engineering that puts together a car like the BMW. With a vehicle about as old as I am goes to show you there is still a long road ahead and many miles to cover, even after the new polish runs through. Thank you for your creating this channel guys! Great season guys! I would loved to see a re-maping for more torque, by the way, the handbrake does nothing, obviously all the decals improve like +25 ponies on that E36
you cant do rally whitout a proper handbrake. i tried whit factory stock, its just bad.

Never really saw the E36 as a rally car but man it took that desert like a champ! Such a cool car, can't wait to work on my E36 one of these days 👍
they are a bunch of them in euro rally amateur... i considering my own e36 i4 engine swap for i6, sperr differential, shortshifter hidraulic handbrake with a nice suspension and just do offroad !

I'm confused, you mentioned recently there haven't been many performance mods. Those stickers should be at least +5hp EACH, and with as many as you have you should be getting Bugatti level numbers on the Dyno :D

I feel like some ideas were left out of this one. I think the biggest improvement here isn't the lap times, but the safety and reliability. Upgraded cooling components prevented down time and while there was no contact with anything that could seriously damage the car, the roll cage, skid plates etc were all there in case of an accident. Great series though! Makes me want to offroad more

We did this back in the day with Ford Falcons in the Australian outback. Two EL's and an AU.. Can confirm, low power rear-wheel drive dirt racing is alot of fun, especially if you have your mates in the other cars. Set a course up, and go have fun.

$13K for a car that is barely faster than stock? No, not even close. They could have just bought a manual trans e36, put some knobby rally tires on it and done just as well for 1/4 of what they spent.
@@marshubbs7078 yeah cause roll cage, seats, skid plates and e-brake are totally useless. Rally is more than lap times... Do that repeatedly to a stock car and it will cost you way more than 13K in mechanical issues

Zach/donut, any part that adds confidence and durability is imo definitely a performance upgrade. If you feel better in the car, it is faster
Zach is a really good driver, but I think his time would drastically improve if he learns how to take a proper rally racing line, with only the necessary amount of oversteer.

Try downshifting in your turns when you e brake you should get faster that way. Really think this one was a cool build I like to see a more classic rally style keep up the great work guys.

When Zach does his lap at 9:35, why does it always cut to an outside shot of someone driving without a helmet on?
He removed his helmet because he couldn't see shit. They prob used in-car footage with helmet to still show us that we should use a helmet. Just my bet
They probably didnt feel safe being so close to Zach obviously missing turns and not being able to see so they clipped in a bunch of other moments where they could be that close

Actually that bad because car parts are pretty expensive and also in some cases you have to put in the labor.

I know right haha 😂 I have 3k in my build and 1100$ was nearly all tires in the two times having had to replace tires since owning it. Most of the the work also went into replacing old bushings and motor mounts and full service to get it up to snuff before suspension mods.
What I wanted to say is : with 13k money wasted for shit modification, I think this was NOT WORTH at all considering he replaced many of them but barely give results. I say that just changing suspension, adding skid plates and adding rollbars itself was more than enough to cut times for about 2-3 seconds. If I dare to say, 5k is at most excluded from Transmission swap from Auto to Manual. Not being cocky, but his modification always being off-route many times even though I aware that kind of hobby is expensive, but its not recommended to waste unneccesary things.

I loved ebay way back in the early days, and then fell out love because there were not any deals, just people wanting more, no warranty, or customer service; it is cool to see them turn the corner and say lets make it right. I haven't put my recent money down with modern ebay, but I appreciate they are trying hard to win me back.

I’m currently in the process of turning my 2006 Saturn ion 3 into a rally car. I will say there’s been some ups and downs. Overall its been a lot of extra custom work to get everything to fix and get it running well. Not fully where I want it to be but it’s been more of a fun challenge to get a car no one expects to be something impressive
The 2nd lap would have been faster if he hadn't taken the time to remove his helmet for every power slide.

What would've been really nice to know is how much influence a rally diff or even a 4wd conversion would affect laptime. That would take a lot more time to i'd guess.
