Royal Tank Regiment reunites after mission deterring Russian aggression

Members of the Royal Tank Regiment have celebrated their recent feats with friends and family during a regimental parade.
Marking the last two years of achievements, they put on a demonstration of their defensive force recently deployed in Estonia - one of NATO's member countries bordering Russia as its war against Ukraine continues.

Those tanks are impossible to destroy I remember when they rolled in to Iraq all I heard was “ they can’t be destroyed” sadam pooped his pants ten left them in my guesthouse sink

Used to live in wool, Dorset, so proud of British engineering on a shoe string.
I now live in Dorchester. My dad was in the Tank Regiment when I was a kid. He was stationed at Lulworth / Bovington, among other places.
What british engineering? The country destroyed it, just a land of suits thats couldnt read a manual micrometer where a victorian 14 year old could.
Many sacrifices made by all service men and their families. Bravo!

UK's tank fleet included 227 Challenger 2s, not all will be combat ready we don’t have enough
Apparently they are already purchasing over 600 modular boxer vehicles, porentially up to 1500 which would finally be a step in the right direction.
Boxers aren't even tracked, let alone armour and firepower. When we go to Challenger 3 we'll have 150 left. Not sure we should even bother with that few. 🤦🏻
@@Joe-og6br i completely understand the scepticism, however capability is a major factor not just numbers, if 150 are better, more reliable etc then great, really would like to see more though, it really does seem stupidly small number, really dont like not being able to hold our own properly without nato etc.
@@Joe-og6br I'm not sure how many you think we need. We are an island nation, that isn't going to be going into any war without a significant number of allies. 150, including taking into account them not all being available, seems fine. 200-250 would be ideal.
We use to be able to hold our own, you can't just rely on allies, we have a huge military budget and not a whole lot to show for it.
Its never about the numbers, but always about the potency of the skill, passion and dedication

The Challengers in Estonia, have been replaced with Danish Leopard 2A7.
The Leopard 2A7 is also a great tank 👍

Combat load: 78 x 120mm 4000 x 7.62mm 200 x teabags
When I was in lybyia a hundred miles out into the desert , the kettle was most essential. Almost as much as the gun but not much.
Yes that magical little silver B.V (boiling vessel) has raised the moral of many soldiers over the years,from tankies to infantry.A brew always helps.👍😆

In 73 I left 3RTR and went to work in a REME workshop. Got chatting with an old bloke who was in the 48th during the war?? Now, we’re down to one. Great regiment with proud traditions. Somebody’s got to show the donkey wallopers how to do the job properly. 😂😂

@@tacticaldelusion That's what I meant, the upgrade is good but the numbers are pathetic! Johnson promised 3% of GDP on defence which is better than the 2(ish)% that we spend now but in EIGHT YEARS TIME! The entire WW2 only lasted six, Putin will have died of old age by then.

Theres no way we need 10x those numbers no matter how nice it would be. There is simply no practical need for such a large mechanised infantry. We need planes, planes, drones, drones, MANPADS x100 plus 20k Boxers
When the next government get In, there will be huge cuts on Defence. To pay off all the debt the civillians rack up over a cold. Hands out raping the public purse. Now you reap what you sow.

Wonder what upgrades these chally 2s got considering the turret cheeks look a bit different from the standard ones
No upgrades here. The lines down the turret cheeks are actually the fades from the "forty fives", a white strip that serves as an arc of fire safety template when practising with live rounds. They are most commonly seen on tanks that have been to BATUS or are on their way there. BATUS camo is sand and green, so I'm guessing some of the vehicles have just come back from there and have been resprayed.

Possibly. Biggest priority though will be the warrior replacement.
Liz Truss said she will raise defense spending to 3% of GDP which would see +£150bn for defense so let's hope so

Fuchs, our nuclear biological and chemical vehicle.
It's a German made Fuchs, multi role AFV. The RAC is responsible for CBRN warfare identification and decontamination. That is the vehicle they use.

British Army need to return to 300 MBT’s this is why Britain needs to Design and Build a new MBT from scratch to replace Challenger

We you look at the challenger and compare it to the Russia tanks, it looks years ahead yet is an old tank. Plus we’ll trained tank crews of the Royal Tank Regiment would be frightening to face.

Interesting, didnt know that UK tank troopers have black uniforms, just like the German Wehrmacht tank troopers.
Only RTR, given to us by the King during WWI. The others are cav scum who wear green.

They the Royal Tank Regiment kept the tradition from WWI to wear black overalls in their tanks. Now part of the uniform. Officers always wear black socks too. Beret is black

Deterring? What just hanging around on safe soil? One good enermy commander would wipe this lot out in a few minutes.
A lack of good commanders seems one of the major Russian failing. But realistically the deterrent isn't so much about the actual firepower but the certainty the whole of NATO will be drawn in.
