  • So glad to have "discovered" you, Michelle...liked and subbed. 😊 VERY pretty colors and a great job of doming! I'll go to your other link - love resined counter tops! For a commenter below: @Anna Koehn Art Anna, the striations occur with mica in resin because of the tendency of resin to pull inwards to the center. Also, as the chemical exothermic reaction (curing) occurs, which creates even more pulling, the mica powders continue their journey to the center until the resin has stabilized and stopped moving inwards. Glitter on the outer edge will do the same (or anything else not nailed down). HTH?

  • New Sub 💚 Love this color combination! I am making knobs for a cabinet in my office but have one question about the gold leaf. How long did you wait before adding the leaf? I saw 15 later on the next step but there was a cut before the leaf and want to make sure I do this exactly the way you did so the gold leaf doesn't spread out everywhere because my geode mold is much smaller. Thank you for all of your amazing tutorials 🥰

    @gigidtx@gigidtx11 ай бұрын
    • I only waited a few minutes to add the gold leaf. You can babysit it for 15 minutes after it’s placed to manipulate it to stay where you want it with a silicone tool or pop stick. Good luck!!

  • I watched your video and poured mine right along with you, but mine did not cooperate. There were zero striations. ☹ I hadn't done any resin work in quite a while and I forgot about the effect of room temp on resin. Even though I used a heat gun, I think my room temp may have been too cool. I ran my heater while pouring BUT I turned it off when I was done. I know better than to do that! Temp was probably 68-69 degrees. I am not giving up though. Gonna try again on my next day off 🙂

Your coasters are so awesome, I see that I can learn alot from you in my resin work. How did you get the topcoat to dome? Was the first layer almost all the way to the top of the molds? Also, how did those beautiful lines appear as the coasters cured? Lastly, I thought you used a torch to pop the bubbles...what?! Anytime I do that with silicon molds my resin binds to the mold and the mold rips when I take out the cured coaster. Teach me your tricks! I can't wait to see more of your videos and learn from you. Here is a recent board/coaster set I made: kzhead.info/sun/iNmvpsinbp-Ooa8/bejne.html

    • I filled the mold up almost to the top with the color then I poured clear just enough to see it over the edge but stop before it overflows. If you get it good you won't have to sand or trim! I think the lines appear because of the mica powder and the clear reacting together but I'm not completely sure. You can use a torch but I do lightly when using a mold, I like the mister of alcohol the best because it pops the bubbles and doesn't leave a film. Thanks for subscribing!!!

    • @@glitznglitterbymichelle1 That is such good advice. I have used the alcohol on boards and trays but never on coasters...now I will be doing so! Thanks for the tips on the dome effect. I will have to experiment with this, I bet it takes practice to get it right. Happy creating, Michelle!

    • @Anna Koehn Art Caution: NEVER use alcohol on the dome. It breaks the surface tension and resin will run over the sides. 😊👍

  • What does the alcohol do? Also, what is the point of waiting to put in the gold flakes? Love how your work turned out! I plan on making some very soon

    • 99% alcohol spritzed on will pop bubbles instead of taking a chance with a torch. Waiting will help stop the movement of the foil. Wait till the resin has almost stopped naturally pulling towards the center. 😊
