Why I Regret Not Using Vaseline With Resin and Sooner
Warning: Important Health and Safety Notice:
Resin is an industrial chemical and as such should always be treated with respect and the manufacturers safety advice taken. Here is a video I have made on how I keep myself safe: • Stop Making Yourself I...
Steve! You are probably THE only KZheadr that has collabed with a company and hasn't charged hundreds of dollars for your kit!! I thank you so very much for that! You truly are a peach my dear!! 🖤❤️
Ditto!!!
Absolutely I’m going to watch anything that starts ‘why I regret not using Vaseline’ 👍🤣🤣
petroleum gel fiestas at night long 🤣
If like to share something with you, I do paint and is sketched and painted a galeon ship with a saying next to it."Ships don't sink because of the water around then, they sink because of the water that gets in them, don't let what's happening around you get inside you and weigh you down."
I really like that saying!
You know Steve I believe you've solved the issue of the consistency by putting the item in fridge to stabilize the Vaseline.I believe this is a better technique than lotion honestly.😊
Daniel Cooper here on youtube did this with baby lotion, now going to try both ;)
Love Daniel's channel! I tried the lotion, but I'm also gonna try this.
Tea and Art also uses Vaseline with great success. So many genius resin artists on KZhead, I have a hard time keeping up 🤣 My pocketbook cries Everytime someone does a a new experiment too 🤣😝
I did it with lotion from Daniel Cooper. Perfect but I managed to hit it before it cured so a little smudge. Love the in the fridge routine with vaseline. Rushing to craft table now!😊
Daniel has also used vasoline. I haven't watched those videos yet but I saw a thumbnail. The biggest problem I would think there would be with using vasoline is how difficult it is to clean off afterwards.
I tried this last night and it worked. Thanks for sharing
Very cool! Love using the freezer to set the vaseline. And yes they do the same with pastry to set the butter.
i totally love the whole “washing up liquid” man that’s great. Here it’s called dish washing liquid or dish soap.
This one has my mind spinning with ideas!
I loved thank you I watch your video everyday cause of you I'm learning allot from you!❤thank you
Thank you!! I will definitely be trying this!!
LOVE this technique, Steve! Genius! 😊💕👍 My favorite are the leaves pattern.
Beautifully done
I never would have thought of this. So, thank you very much. ♥️
😮😮that's freaking amazing. So cool. Thanks for sharing!!❤
Brilliant idea Steve. You are very clever
Steve- I was thinking the same thing!! I have stencils on order to try this, and I'm so glad you did it. I want to try it with clear resin. I bet it will give it an etched look. Anyway, thanks for trying this! I love your videos! 😊
Lovely results. I have loads of stencils for my card making.
I really like how this turned out. Thank you for the idea & inspiration. I think the tray would look great if you put some gold leaf or gold glitter or even just a dusting of gold mica powder and then a nice top coat. That might look elegant. Thank you!
i love the technique
You come up with the coolest ideas, Steve! That turned out great!
I love that idea. I will show you my projects.
Ingenious idea ❤
I love this idea ❤
YES!!! OMG such a kicka** technique! Wish I would've found YOU sooner! ❤
This is fantastic. Im definitely going to try it
Totally amazing
This looks just all kinds of fun!
I love working with resin it fun and enjoyable
Love this and can't wait to try it.
What a great idea.😊❤
very loveley i will try it 💗💗💗
Just lovely.
What a success 😀!
Daniel Cooper did this technique with baby lotion which came out lovely but do like your tip putting in fridge to firm it up great idea
That's such a a good idea! I have a whole container of petroleum jelly and a bunch of stencils. I'll definitely try this out.
That’s so awesome Steve your awesome love your experiments and creations ❤I am going to try this so cool 👍 !!!
I got my kit the other day! Happy happy joy joy! 😁
I use gloss medium and put pigment in the medium to add colour
Those came out really great!
What a wonderful technique, Thank you for sharing and take care
❤this idea
Thanks!
I used body butter and they came out lovely looked like they were etched 😍
Cool technique.
Awesome job! I love this but, I think for me, I would of done a thin top coat of clear resin to finish them off.✌
Amazing ❤
Hope you’re starting to feel better xx
Ooooo yeah luv these 😍😍😍😍😍
I've been using baby lotion with stencils. It works quite well for me. I made several trays for Christmas (2023) gifts. I've also rubbed the mold with mica power first then put the stencil dpwn to covering it with lotion. It worked really well. I did leave the lotion on for several hours to days just depending on my schedule. Lotion whipped off really easily. I'm also wanting to do cameos. Looking for small face and animals stencils to work with.
Very cool!❤
Wow, thats awesome. I inherited box's and box's of resin mpulds from my mum who passed away. When it gets warmer here in the UK i'm definitely going to experiment. I've already bought mica powders and colours, i already have tons of glitter, i've been glitter mad for years, so i cannot wait to start making things. Thank you for your video's, i think its great to gather as much info and tips before i start. I just need someone to clean my shed out so i can use it as a craft room 😂😂
WOW 😮😮😮 HOW COOL
Interesting video and I'm looking forward to your next Vaseline/stencil one! Also wondering if it would work with regular casting resin.
First time here. This is good.
Love it. Would it work if you placed the stencil back in the tray and then 'painted' over the stencil. Just thinking it might make it easier
Hi Steve, watch all your videos, doing a great job. I'm just starting out and was wondering what your thoughts are about heat mats? Keep up the great work
Very pretty.
How did you know I have a lot of stencils I've hardly used in my rubber stamping stash? 😄 I can't wait to try this. Thank you for sharing. I have a lot of small ones, even brass ones, and I keep those in a cheap photo album I got at the dollar store, because they are about the size of a photo (remember those?) and each folder holds one. I use a large paper clip to keep the top of each sleeve closed.
Hi Steve Yep Vaseline works well especially after a coffee ☕️ break yeah 😽 good work yeah love K4ttt ❤
Very pretty 😍
Very cool! How do you fix those "bubble chips" or holes on the side of the tray? I get those a lot.
I tried the lotion and it was too messy if you did big leaves or petals (sunflowers for me) so found vaseline did perfectly for big spaces, after watching Daniel , so good on you for going straight to vaseline...
I have also used the baby lotion with a little success, but I found that a thicker body butter (£1.00 from Poundland) was better. I will be trying the vaseline now 😀
great idea, question, how did the molds hold up. I saw this done with baby lotion but someone had mentioned that it left imprint on mold so I didn't try it as I don't have that many molds.
Ah I wondered if you would get to this technique sometime :) Fun isn't it. Nice work Steve. Baby lotion works well too, and if you have 2 or 3 identical stencils you can stack them for a deeper relief
This is a first for me these are so beautiful love it. Love the Tappy Wappy I couldn’t stop laughing you are so fun to watch.
I tried this a couple times with lotion after seeing Daniel Cooper do it. But an issue I had with the lotion was that it was too thin even after putting it in the fridge. I'll have to try it with Vaseline too, thank you! (I made a couple videos intending for them to be Christmas themed but couldnt edit them in time to post for Christmas 😅)
I have seen another youtuber use lotion instead of Vaseline and it comes out gorgeous. It goes on a little easier if you put it in a precision glue bottle before applying it. Then you can use stencils or not if you choose. And easy to wipe away mistakes. He used uv resin, but may work with regular resin. I do not know for certain.
I'm still getting started with non-uv resin, but if I put acrylic paint in the indentations, and then did a layer over the whole thing of transparent resin that would seal the paint in as well right?
That looks great. Coujod you not add a dtrong color mica picment into the vaseline beforehand then refrigerate for a hour ? Make it stand out a little more !
Hi Steve. Love your work 🎉 Any idea when your tool kit will be available on Amazon? It’s currently unavailable in the UK 😢
tht is pretty 😍
I can never find the link for your new pack as I would love one but I also don't know if Australia can receive it?
what is the difference in the viscosity ? Like low and Medium ?
Ive tried this with lotion. Daniel Cooper gave me the idea. Tea and Art used vaseline. 😊
i'd love to see if you can dust the hardened vaseline to get a colored etching if you dont mind trying that on a video please. this is an awesome technique and great for people who do resin but might not be able to afford silicone for inlays. tyvm!
u can make ur own pigment paste... most of us will have left over resin "A" - use that and use a pouring pigment...but u can get specific paint for this too... :)
I have done this with baby lotion too before. Would like to try both and compare the result.
Not only can you make your own stencils... there are SOOOO many free svgs out there... and you can make them too. I totally got bitten by the create your own paper bug and played a lot on inkscape making seamless repeating patterns... SO much fun. I love them for cardmaking. Of course... you better believe I have some cardmaking stensils too.
Could you dust the frozen jelly with mica powder to embed the color?
Hello Steve!
If you was to mix ink or pigment into the Vaseline would the “embossed” areas pick up the colour?
Daniel Cooper originated this idea and his most recent video really improves on the process in the most amazing ways.
The Jdiction colored UV resin on Amazon in the States is sold out until further notice. 🤦It's a shame because I really wanted to try them. Great idea, Steve. They turned out beautifully.
I recently discovered that vasaline also works with hot glue too.
❤ your expiramets, wish I had a good setup to do resin :/ I recently saw a guy use something I think called resin clay or reusable resin, and he did some similar stuff w/ stencil to this, and that was interesting as well. His name is Daniel Cooper, I think.
For the bubbles, could you have put that resin in one of those smaller vacuum chamber things, before you poured it?
I was wondering if you could get away with dusting the vaseline with a color of micro powder before popping it into the freezer and then pour the resin or do you think the powder would just go everywhere once the resin is poured?
I think Tea and Art used vaseline, too, but I can't remember if she had a stencil. I've been meaning to try this (or the baby lotion method), but I'm still waiting for the weather to warm up. I think the acrylic paint looks really nice on the pattern, but they were really pretty even without anything. And now I'm thinking, gold leaf would look awesome, too...❤
thank you
They are saying that they are out of the mold maker that you are using and do not know if it will be back in stock in the USA .Where can we buy it ?
Really cool idea. Definitly needs some tweaking.
I think you could use a dremel to trim the edge of the bigger piece and get rid of those bubble blemishes.
I've seen people use regular baby lotion. I think it might work better because you don't have to worry about it melting like you do with the Vaseline.
Just thought of some thing that might help you get some windows putty squeeze in hand until very soft then on a very flat surface like glass with the stencil on it use the plastic applicator spread the putty over mould then put in fridge 😅❤
Ps or use old credit card
Hmmmm, could you use a mica powder mixed with the Vaseline to give your design color? I wonder if that would work...
I've also found that Vaseline is wonderful for helping clean resin if it gets on your skin. I cannot use resin without getting it all over me, Vaseline is a miracle cleaner.
I tried vasoline as a mold release once and it is super hard to clean off molds. I've found using anything to wipe the inside of the molds out to clean off the vasoline ends up ruining your mold. It gets scratched and shows on the next piece you make in it.
Please do clear next!
A strange suggestion, would it possibly work if the vaseline is coloured, I would guess, with mica powders, as an alternative to using the UV resin? just a thought
