The Pinion MGU drive looks awesome I would love to get that setup. Not worried about a little extra noise in certain gears. At the end of the day it's a performance electric drivetrain, a little noise in certain gears not something I'm sensitive to.
Yup. Hoping my next bike has a pinion gearbox and motor.
Johny Walker a new EMBN presenter beside Steve ?! Fits the market like a glove, love it!
Nicolai's engineers are so good they figured out a way to route the cables without going through the headset.
That Nicolai is the eMTB I would get if I had to buy one now. Beautiful bike.
Do you walk into a Ferrari dealer and pick out the car you “would” buy if you wanted to buy one? Fool…
@@bfranco1519 you ok? I doubt you'd say that to someone's face.
@@bfranco1519 🤪
27kg though
I only have a hardtail Jonesy. I understand full sus has benefits but for long days bike packing I’ll take a hardtail still!
Vincent from Nicolai is a great bloke, I bought a non ebike from them a while ago and he was really helpful, as was everyone I spoke to by email. Top company, if I get an ebike it will be from them
Vincent is sending me my QLF ebike next week. Easy and fair company!
Such a top bloke that I can’t get a test ride for over a year now! Nicolai is a joke!
Is "bloke" the UK version of "Dude"?
@@joehoeper4648 bloke, guy, chap, fella, geezer, take your pick
@@joehoeper4648 not exactly. Bloke is more like chap or man.
thank you for clarification about pinion gear box.
Finally something to get excited about! Everything these days seems to be about low weight, smaller batteries with reduced range, low weight, lower torque and let's not forget lower weight. Give us some big heavy bruiser with endless grunt and torque. If I want a light bike I'll ride my acoustic. 👍
Good Job Stevie......Pinion MGU 12 speed is the future!
That Rose hardtail looks good, as does the Hepha. I quite liked the look of the Nicholai but the backwards lettering of the graphic annoys me slightly 😂
Any chance of reviewing some fully equipped bikes with mudguards lights and rack please.
The belt tensioner from nicolai changes alot for gearbox fullys
Pinion still turning heads. Glad you cleared up the noise issue. My Scott eStrike whines like a cheap whore in the lower gears, so I don’t think a bit of noise in the first four gears with the Pinion are going to be a deal breaker. Good vid.
Went to check out the Rose Bike, only to be met with the WE DON’T SELL TO THE UK SINCE BREXIT message. Oh, and no mention of the Hardtail E once that message had been digested. Such a shame… really liked the look of that one (and all the others in this excellent whirlwind review).
I would love to try that Nicolai super interesting thing…
Boom
Another super informative e-bike review Steve. If only that Nicolai /pinion was mid power so a bit lighter and “bike like” (like Specialized SL) I’d be saving up. Really looking forward to your full test. Bring a Geometron fan I do love the Nicolai build quality. Perhaps it could be a bit slacker. Let’s see when you test.
Wanted to hear more about the 170 mm long headtube. The natural frame looks better than the painted version IMHO. Yes the welds are bulky.
I've seen you @ the Festival 😅 Garda Bike Festival was Great again this year. Tested the Pinion motor on Simplon bike, also the Italian brand: Thok enduro TK01, @ Monte Brione technical downhill section...🎉🎉🎉❤. See you next year @ Bike Festival
I need that Nicolai, candy will be ok, send my one ASAP
I haven't met a hill that I couldn't go up with my bosch 85nm motor. Pretty soon we'll be able to climb up a vertical wall!
Still can't climb like a bafang can, 160nm 😀
@@mikethomas6051 please Bosch is know for out perfoming bafang on any MTB trail. Only time Bafang is stronger is when its a literal dirt bike motor. Ive seen so many bafang motors burn out its ridiculous.
Can you please confirm the propain srech pricing at the start of the video? Looking more like EUR10.5K based on propain website but will happily order one today if EUR5900 is confirmed 👍🏼
Price starts at 5999€
@@MarkoWolfStrmljan exactly hence why it should be pointed out that the statement "the bike on display here EUR5,999" is incorrect
Yep, that bike on display is actually €10,000. C'mon EMBN.
The Propain (first bike) price can't be right for the shown model. On their website/store it starts from 5,999 € in basic config and ends in more than 7k when you configure it like shown.
It would be nice if there's a motor brand that has a waterproof system. Just destroyed my EP8 by plunging through a small creek :( ( error E10 ). Such a shame.
MGU rules.
The Europeans are kicking America’s butts when it comes to that pinon setup. When are these available in the States?
Hopefully soon
Whats the weight and price for the Nicolai bike🤔
lots of new erman bike companies ....will they start selling in the usa
Imagine if Nikolai bought up Pole bikes....the two bike companies that build, and the process, stuff that looks as if it came from the future..merger.
A lot of beautiful bikes but 15mph top speed is a joke in my opinion so I'll be buying a motor to put on my bike 👍🚴
Indirect drives are nice ideas but should only be considered on ebikes. Any loss of pedaling efficiency on manual bikes is unacceptable. IMO.
1300 wheelbase on a medium 🤔
Price of the nicolai starting at 11.000€.
He's an Elf
A five figure 28 Kilo Aluminium pig is definitely not a contender for best MTB of all time.
Best ebike performance demonstration was made by climbing steep upstairs, and for now, only Shimano motors* proved capable. Maybe Yamaha, not 100% sure
Meanwhile Brose has been beating both of them for years. 😂
@boblatkey7160 is there any brose motor as powerful as the bafang middrives. Either dedicated like the ultra or conversion like the bbshd
Wtf is up with all the headset cable routing? 😂
Emtb without a gearbox make no sense. The tech is here and the derailleur is an old poop
Those welds on the Nicholai need to be cleaned up. Come on Germany 🤓
Seriously? That is intentional! 🙄
Bog and Brite galv 😂
@@boblatkey7160 Seriously. I take it you're not a welder.
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
You can buy a car for 6000 euro. WTF.
The nicolai frame looks atrocious with those huge bulky welds .
Nicolai finally make a gearbox bike worth buying, then stick the controller on the handleba! What an epic fail! Even Bosch havelearned not to put stuff there 😂😂😂😂. They need to pay attention, NOBODY who's riding a mountain bike with that spec wants a controller there. Ask Specialized who ship tons of bikes. Cutting corners by spreading the design out. It;s fine on ya cargo bike but on your actual emtb 🙄
They can only use what’s available from Pinions System Integrator FIT 🤷🏼♂️
@@HFrizzler they do a small screen you can put in the frames & a small switch on the bars sans specialized & bosch. They are just saving money tbh.
Fit does not sell/provide a screen that goes into the frame.
@@headslash55 they do FIT REMOTE BASIC coupled with FIT DISPLAY COMPACT which can be intergrated into the frame or mounted on the steering head. I think Rotwild do it that way.
@@sadphil01 both are still mounted on the handlebars. The remote basic is the same as shown in the video but without the screen. The fit display basic is mounted to a mount that is fitted to the handlebars. Fit does not have mounting points for the frame.
The bicycle industry is so messed up when it comes to the understanding the active SI Metric System. They say weight = gram/kilogram, spoke tension = kilogram-force and torque Newton-Meter which is the only correct units in the bunch. Torque = force or weight multiplied by distance. If weight is kilogram then torque should be kilogram-meter but it is not. Kilogram is a unit of mass not weight, force, tension or thrust!
I like to rate power in sugar boogies. Kilos of Sugar Boogies or SbKg.
When you get stuck at 10 the ratings become meaningless
Lazy people's bike,
Jeez, all you young guys on mobility bikes. What's the world coming to. Don't pretend you are cycling, you're not. That little electric motor is doing the cycling. Just like the mopeds of the past.
