Which pro do you want to see Ollie take on next? Let us know! 👇
That eurobike is a superbike compared to my mtb. Use an entry level mtb when you want to do these "pros on a shit bike" challenges.
Annemiek van Vleuten on a climb. Or Riejanne Markus on the TT bike. But please ditch that eurobike. It served its purpose, but don't repeat it again and again and again and again.
Nibali
Ollie vs joe skipper
Ollie vs harry Palmer
I always love seeing pros in any discipline doing this random stuff, not taking themselves too seriously and willing to do something a bit silly because why not?
Or their bike sponsor tells them to
Very good resistance training. and a break from the humdrum so why not
I imagine he wasn't allowed to go over a certain amount of watts
@@LSD04 but its up to them at the end of the day and it seems like they're having fun
I agreee 😊💪
Ollie's track stand at the lights was mint, not even a wobble!
Cool calm and collected, ever the professional 🙌
Was coming here to post this, that's the real spectacle!
Even more impressive as he as doing a hard effort just before that. At least for that makes track stands always way harder.
It makes it easier to do it uphill but anyway kudos to him
He literally put his foot on the ground
That trackstand was the most impressive thing in the whole video.
Ollie's very proud
I think Ollie put the lights there just to show off his track stand, was good though!
i always like a good track stand
I could give it a go on that bike I think.
@@gcn As he should be!
We need more of joe, he has a great attitude! I will be cheering him on this season!
To watch us hang out with some more pros, you should check out our 'Legends' series on GCN+ like this one with Alberto Contador 👉 gcn.eu/Contador
Yes, my thoughts also. GO JOE!
yeah, Joe is such a likeable person!
I'd actually really love to see more about what the mechanics say about the Eurobike. Mostly because I think it'd be funny.
How can something so badly built also be so heavy!
If they'd been properly mic'ed up, I think the mechanic commentary would have all needed bleeped out! 🤣
Agreed.
nothing wrong with a dirt cheap (heavy) bike to go hit the rail trail do some sight seeing while getting exercise but why spend money/resources faking a race bike... I can only imagine what they were thinking/saying a very bizarre "bike" for sure.
@@MrRay645 lol fr
I think Ollie should re-do this video all by himself! 1st run Eurobike, 2nd run superbike on same watts and record the differences in speed and time. In fact, I'm extremely curious to know how much a bike and its setup can make a difference to your performance!
Love seeing Ollie in these types of challenges. He has come such a long way since I started watching him. If not for that pesky light, he would have blown this one out of the park. Great ride. And yes, as others mentioned, that track stand was epic.
Glad you liked it!
If nobody is around I just roll through lights like that. Why wait around for 20 cars to pile up behind you?
Loved how Joe had such a positive attitude! Ollie, i am sure he had some nice words for you after the climb, you are really strong 💪✌️
Rumour has it, Ollie was asked to join the team... but didn't want to embarrass the rest of the team. 👀
good to see Ollie in charge of replies again
@@gcn 🤣🤣🤣✌️🙂
8:43 “woah I’m full gas already” while smiling and not even breathing hard. A pro’s fitness level is just insane.
They are on another level 🙌
@@gcn and how they can recover back into a sprint so fast!
That Eurobike has probably done more epic courses and climbs than most $10K bikes.
The paint scheme on the Wilier was worth 30 seconds alone. 😍😍😍
Beauty isn't it
Yeah it's really nice!!
texture via trash bag... what a delight
Ollie getting closer and closer to Top Gear style with the "here's one we made earlier" and "in the world" -bits :D
here’s one we made earlier is blue peter!
"Astana's heavy bike is really slowing him down with a minute wide gap between him and Ollie! Still, could be worse." _Cuts to Ollie at a traffic light_
At this point Ollie calling himself a sh*t rider is just straight up hustling. Not what I expect from the good doctor! 😂
To be fair, he does accept he’s not that crap! 1:28
He's the guy that the local club riders struggle to hold his wheel and they all tell him he should go pro, and he explains the gap between him and the pros is bigger than the gap from them to him.
He's maybe too humble 👀
@@DrewKime Maybe in terms of the number of people but definitely not in terms of wattage
Classic, hilarious. Joe is such a good sport about it, while Ollie is giddy as a child. Good stuff y'all
He let Ollie have his fun 🙌
Joe final double sprint took breath away. No blaming bad tools here. Epic.
He showed his class at the end! 🙌
I think in Lance Armstrongs case it was all about who had the best chemist
Team Ferrari😄
I love GCN. But I learned more from these when they used to compare super bikes with mid-range bikes. Reasonably priced bikes by Specialist, Trek or others would do far better in these comparisons and provide more meaningful information. Methinks the makers of $10K bikes might be afraid of this. And no one looks at a $10K bike and then says "that's too much, I'm going for the $200 bike.!" But, it was entertaining! And Ollie, you look positively sickly, gaunt and under nourished. Keep up the good work!
This is definitely the case. When you get above a certain price point the gains are much more marginal. It’s like difference between Tourney and 105 is much bigger than between 105 and Dura-ace. But then this is the same in all sports, the top end components are cutting edge state of the art so would have to be expensive with the research and development that go into it. Unless you race at pro level you don’t really need it though.
Did Joe go back down and give the construction guy that 100 spot he promised if he stopped Ollie at the light? 😉
That left me wanting to see a rematch. We saw the gap before the stop light, for sure, but so much can happen in the final 500m of a big climb. I would have loved to have seen an uninterrupted finish to see the final times.
We think Ollie would too 😂
My first road bike is a Eurobike. It is crazy heavy, but it will make some good riding legs after riding it a few times. Yes, it has several pitfalls, but for a newbie with a very tight budget, it isn't bad for a new road bike. However, I wouldn't recommend getting too chummy with it for long if a person wants to get serious later. A few issues with it is the quality of the derailleur and the size of the chain ring. The derailleur will junk up after some time of serious rides. Also, the chain ring is a bit smaller than that of a typical road bike, possibly because the parts seem to be a mix from something that resemble various types of bikes. A positive aspect to the Eurobike is that the frame can stand a beating for how heavy this tank on two wheels is. I don't ride mine any longer except for when I am screwing around. Note: if a person is just learning how to use clips, this is the bike to do it with because a person new to clips will fall, dropping the bike a few times along with banging up the knees.
@10:07 - 10:29 is where Ollie blew his chances. Rookie, poseur error. J-Dom the perfect symbol of Rule #80 // Always be deliberately casual; Why stand when you can lean? Why lean when you can sit? Why sit when you can lie down?
Excellent video, loved the humour from Ollie and Joe.
Glad you liked it!
That was fun! Joe was great and I hope you can get him on more GCN episodes.
Joe Dombrowski was funny with his analysis of the Amazon bike. Would like to see more challenges with the pros and a day in the life of a pro.
Some great video ideas for 2023! 👀
To be fair, the Eurobike was much lighter until Hank filled the frame tubes with water.
That's hilarious, and should make it into the Comments of the Week segment.
I loved seeing the Team Mechanics setting up the Euro bike 😂 you can tell they enjoyed messing around with it
They weren't used to such primitive tech 😂
Another pro-cyclist slayed, and Ollie's legend continues to grow.
Who's gunna be next?
@@gcn Paddie the baddie!
@@gcn Rohan Dennis please
Wait, who won? Bit confusing near the end.
@@angelinatang4255 Not Ollie.
The Bridgewood Redemption Tour continues… Contador, G, Dombrowski!
He's gradually taking on the whole World Tour!
I love Ollie’s comment at the end: share the show to your friends “if you have any” 😉
“Share it with your friends - if you’ve got any” hahaha, oh Ollie, the burn! Happy new year to you too 😅
The return of the eurobike! You can bash it all you like, but after all these tests it still "works."
great video as per usual. - I would love to see a comparaison between 1500-3000-4500£ bikes (brand new bike 2022 or 2023) - and another one showing a 3000£ bike from 2023-2020-2017 (price at lunch ) and how it has evolved.
No noticable difference whatsoever.
Never call yourself a **** rider Ollie, you're the best
Joe got lucky there, but showed us the big gulf in class that there is between a pro and good amateur. Even when Ollie was at cycling weekly I've enjoyed watching his videos. He's very intelligent, really knows his subjects and has a tremendous amount of enthusiasm
Cycling what sorry? ... Never heard of it 😂
You can try to memory-hole Cycling Weekly, but you can never erase Ollies Project 49 legacy. That was probably the finest bit of riding he has ever done (or anyone at GCN, even in their pro days for that matter). What I can't figure out is if he was able to go over 30mph for almost 50 minutes in Project 49, how come he could not achieve his Hour Record goal. Even though its an extra 10 minutes of riding, he should have been able to get closer to it than he did.
It's time for another 5vs1, but with Ollie on the time trial bike!
Absolutely a hoot of a upload!!! You guys are great!! Thanks to Joe for being a great sport and professional as could be!!👊👊🤙🤙
For a moment I thought Joe would not actually be able to lift that Eurobike! GCN has certainly gotten its moneysworth out of it. Ollie looking good!
I’ve managed through my cycling journey starting in 2001 to the present, to achieve the status of a CAT 3 racer. I no longer race but at the very beginning I got an actual bike fit that has worked well for me for over 22 yrs. I keep my exact stem length of 120 mm, handle bars 44 cm width and the saddle of choice is the Fizik Arione or it’s similar models. Even when I purchase a new bike I keep my same dimensions with a tweak here & there with my saddle to achieve my ultimate fit for comfort @Global Cycling Network📌
I just got back into cycling after about a decade off. I hope I can still track stand. That was awesome!
That recovery time from Joe was Insane! Especially on an unfamiliar heavy bike and climb. Ollie's Trackstand was clean too.
Love that climb. I wouldn't fancy going over the other side on the eurobike.
I love how Joes mechanics and teammates are all just laughing at him…. 😂😂
Laughing at the bike, not him.
10:26 those guys are like "no way, it's an Astana rider and GCN!"
the Palmares/legend of the Eurobike continues to grow! Whether its a world tour pro or Hank riding it into deep puddles, it never fails to perform!
I saw a Eurobike in the wild just before Christmas. To make the ride even better, the owner had the saddle tilted upwards about 20 degrees
These are always a blast, Ollie, even if we know how it's going to end. Really enjoy them.
Did you think this was how it would end? 👀
The amount of free marketing material you guys have given to EuroBike... They'd never dream of having riders of this caliber on their bike, multiple times, being seen by millions of viewers!
3:28 anybody else notice the Trek-Segafredo women’s team riding past in the background?
Ollie you are strong. Much respect. It would be even more interesting if the show uses a $1500 aluminium bike with 105, instead of Eurobike.
Tough and humble Joe D., thanks for playing along with this request.
The paint on the handle bars looks incredible. Wheels are amazing also.
"he can recover quicker and go again" damn i felt that
Ladies like that
Hahah nice
When I was a kid, I dreamed of a blue fade bike with these colours. But this is WAY better than my dream! So sweet... Great video, just loved it!
Love the conclusions , “it is all about the bike “ when the Eurobike took the V 😂
I love this video series! I think another interesting video would be to put the pro on like a bottom of the line proper road bike. E.g., aluminum frame, claris group set etc. It seems that you really do go faster if you have a great bike compared to an amazon bike; but how much difference does it make to go from the most affordable "true" road bike (~1,000 dollars), to what many riders would consider a good road bike bike (~$3,000)
Great job, Noe! Wishing you a fantastic season.
Love this kinda content 🫶🫶🔥🔥🙉 thanks GCN🤟
Lol just Brodie May Chapman and Gaia Realini riding past at 3:27 Goes to show that all the pro teams really do winter training together all in the same area.
Ollie is absolutely smashing it! Super strong right now! 💪💪💪
Fantastic lads, I love these types of videos so much! Ollie, you rock lol
The pro bike is a definite super nice, whether it's in biggy smalls, jaunty angle, or with the valves not lined up!
Loved de video! The music for when they’re riding is awesome! Thank you!
Pure entertainment mate. Laughed really hard on the last 100 meters. Good job.
Such a good video. Thanks everyone for making it.
Really well done Ollie ! Joe is a big not only for the uphill's watts 🔝 I like this format, it would be great to do it with an amatour vs pro sprinter 🚲
Great vid and Ollie’s track stand was pro level, should have won that one quite easy if no traffic light 😁
Let's be real here Ollie has upped his training and his overall fitness on the bike~ If you put an amateur on the bike the Pro cyclist still would have won of the cheap bike. I think we all know Ollie is like semi-pro these days! haha
yeah he is at 5W/kg which needs some pretty rigorous training to get to as an amateur
The Eurobike is back!!. I love it. You should auction that bike eventually. It is legendary.
This was awesome!! Thanks for making me laugh, as usual, Ollie!
The Willier paint job is amazeballs - it’s what Elsa would ride if she could in that stupid long floaty dress.
Reminds me of the scene in the movie “Blazing Saddles” where they stopped in the desert for a toll booth. “Somebody needs to go back and get a shit load of dimes.”
The first time i saw this channel was just abt 10 mins ago and im already loving it
Not normally into road bikes but that Willer is a thing of beauty 😍
Great video!!!! We all know Ollie won… I think upgrading components on the euro bike to see how much weight can be saved would be a good video…replace everything just keep the frame
Spot on target! Seat post, fork, handlebar and chainring are hi ten steel. Just replacing them for aluminum parts would shave good 3 to 5 kgs. On the other hand, the frame is heavy as hell alone and it's geometry is akward.
Without a doubt that’s the funniest video you’ve ever put out! 😂 Well done GCN and Joe!
Ollie sabotaged him from the start immediately dropped it drive side down 🤣
Very great episode with the astana team, love it!
17 Kilos? Impossible, even my fatbike with 4,6 inch wide tires is less than 15 Kilos!
Yay Ollie! Great job!
I love that paint job 😍 that's one of the most beautiful bikes I've ever seen!
The best type of videos, love when compared
Glad you liked it!
JoeDo is awesome. Very much enjoyed seeing some Dombrowski content.
That is a beautiful bike. Im super jealous you get to ride these absolutely amazing bikes!
Great vid. Would love to know what the bike plus rider weights were and then what the difference in watts between the two were.
Awesome Video!! Ollie rocks. Track stand was great.
with that heritage, this eurobike is probably the most valuable eurobike ever. this on bike probably made gcn more money then amazon selling them ;) you should have made everyone singh it who has driven it. it was a fun video even if oliver is a pretty good rider and traffic lights are always a pain in the....legs.....
You should check out our 'Cheap bike challenge' film on GCN+! 👉 gcn.eu/cbc
Impressionante!!! Complimenti per il video bellissimo!!!
So cool! Love It! The Willier is amaizing!
While I get that this is really just an ad for Wilier, please be conscious that the Amazon bike may be all someone can afford. And if it gets them out riding, then that’s the most important thing. It’s not all about the bike. It’s all about going for a ride.
i love this eurobike so much. fun times
This video really shows how good Ollie has got - he lost 72 seconds on the traffic light, but if he didn't stop timing, then he lost significantly more time than Joe which skewed the final results. If both stopped timing at the lights, then Joe would have to make up the difference between the time it took to get to Ollie and the time he had to wait at the lights - in other words, Ollie arguably won this challenge!
well it's pretty obvious that ollie was faster time-wise, since the waiting time at the traffic light was much shorter for joe.
Great vid, like the humor of both Ollie and Joe. "How is my position?" "Aero. You look pro!" Mwhahahaha. :)
Nice track stand at the lights 👌🏻
That willier is absolutely beautiful! The paint rather looks like a decent custom painting!!
*This video reminds me….* Many, Many, moons ago, I used to go cycling with a classmate of mine _(in the late 80s if you’re bothered)._ I always owned fairly heavy and not very aerodynamic second-hand bikes, whilst he, being more into cycling than me, always had pretty decent bikes that were light and aerodynamic. It was so frustrating when we’d go out and watch him disappear into the distance and then wait for me for what seemed like a lifetime as I slowly caught him up at the top of the next hill. So, I basically got him to swap bikes with me so that I got to ride his really good bike and he suffered riding on my shitty bike. Okay, he could still outperform me and beat me to the top of the next hill. But, the difference between our speeds was greatly reduced and he no longer had a nice relaxing wait for me to catch him up.
Ollie's track stand skills are amazing !!!
"I guess these are. . . Shifters."🤣🤣🤣
This thing is what i requested.. 15+ kilos bike 😘😘😘 Thank you gcn. Need gcn presenter test bike too
I must say ,Ollie you are stronger than I thought/fit. Kudos my man
