That scene when he loses their child blew me away. It's usually the trope that child survives and everyone lives. When they lose, I was hooked. This is a solid film.
Very solid. It shows in the first 10 minutes that no one is safe. The fear is instantly amped up.
It is an American movie. They have abortion as a federal right so they do not care about a child. They kill thousands every year.
i remember watching this in cinema. the entire room just gasped when the kid made a sound and everyone went quiet when the deathangel got him. thats when everyone knows that this is a different type of movie.

I love the tragedy of this opening for so many reasons. It makes sense that the youngest dies because kids don’t understand consequences when they’re that young. A couple of months being quiet is not enough for a 4yr old to adjust. He’s at the back because they have another kid that’s sick and they want him home as quickly as possible because what if he has a coughing fit or his condition gets worse? Beau is the slowest walker because he has small legs. Regan feels bad for him feeling trapped and gives him the rocket without batteries because he said he wanted one so the family could “get away”. As a deaf person she has less of an idea what causes sounds. She might think her parents would hear him trying to put the batteries in if he did grab them. There’s so many reasons for why the death happened the way it did. It’s heartbreaking because it could have been prevented but also because it’s how most people would have acted in that situation.
It still doesn't make sense that two parents wouldn't make sure their young children are in front of them when the live in a world with *literal monsters from space*.
But they know that the toy operates with batteries and in such a situation parents leave the kids behind without checking anything.
Many adults remain at this age.

Its clear that beau knows to keep quiet since he used sign language and knows that there are monsters out there. But he’s still a kid and kids make mistakes which of course leads to beau’s death.

Blunts acting here sells it. Total helplessness, and loss. Just utterly defeated as she turns around, silently gasps, and falls to her knees she knows nothing can be done. The subtleness and change in emotion from disbelief, to horror and then just giving up. Crazy.

this was such a unique way to show how the plot and universe works in this! instead of someone explaining it or having it be when it starts, it literally shows the effects of what happens when you make a sound. completely terrifying
One of the all time great opening deaths to a horror movie. The family's reactions just complete it. Having to watch an inevitable tragedy but not be able to react like people would in a world where screams doesn't get you killed.

I remember watching this movie with a few of my friends. Me and one of my friends had already seen the movie but my other friends had not seen it yet so when we decided to watch it. When the scene where the little boy gets snatched came up my friend who had already watched the movie yelled YEET and everyone was laughing so hard.
