  • Excellent video , great build and perfect timing. I'm reentering the hobby after a long sabbatical and trying to get up the learning curve of the new materials and techniques . There are so many styles, one of my " old" masking tape applications I use DRAFTING masking tape minimizes paint damage and is cheap. Regarding paint removal I just finished your Purple remover. It worked on some real old acrylic just as you demonstrated however on some real old Enamels it didn't touch it after three days, so I'm going to check your videos for alternatives. VMS Makes some excellent stripper however the only caveat is the price, about 11 dollars a 200ml bottle. It is great stuff other wise. After working for several months on new materials I still can't get up the learning curve, however I think your videos are going to help. Thanks for the help.

    • Welcome back to the hobby! Try tire bleach or oven cleaner on the enamels to remove it. Soak for 24-48 hours.

    • @@StyreneModelersHaven Thanks for the recommendation on the strippers I'll give them ago , I'm anxious to find a solution to redo some of my old kits and bring them up to date.

    • The model railroad hobby here in the US has since at least the 1980s a couple different paint strippers which are safe for plastic models. The ones I use while safe for styrene are not safe for resin parts. They are in about the same price range as that VMS product. And they are reusable. Their origin is based on removing factory paint from locomotive and car body moldings so as to repaint in liveries which are not factory offered. Also, I've had success using isopropyl alcohol to remove common spray paint from some large scale model train bodies. That alcohol also does an excellent job of removing Tamiya acrylics.

  • You're just like me. I've got a stack of those black PET trays bc they stand up to everything short of lye and hydrochloric acid, plus they made great mixing vessels for homemade terrain brownie batter.

  • Brake fluid is the best option for stripping paint off parts. It’s quick and brake fluid dissolves in water.

  • Great!! I've got this kit up in the loft, now to build it after watching this, yes, rear side turrets look out of place somehow, I may do away with mine, but how about converting them into side facing camera ports, making it a reconnaissance variant? Micro drill bit would be good for adding bullet holes, flack shrapnel damage on an model airframe. Thanks for video, and reminding me I've got this kit up in the loft!!!
