Razer might get some flak for being one of the most "gamery" brands out there, but their new Viper Mini SE mouse seems like it could be something special. With a magnesium body, great sensor, and various software features, will David be impressed or is the price tag too high?

I bought a Razor Deathadder 2....it was garbage. Clicks were inconsistent and it felt crap. I returned it.

They do
@@riba2233 if they do, how come most of their products are pretty bad?
They have a super-durable magnesium alloy shell, but I bet the microswitches still only last 9 months tops.
logitech cares way to much aswell, but here we are watching an unboxing
@@riba2233 no they don’t the only product I’ve ever enjoyed from them is the viper ult, everything else they have is really overpriced and low quality and I hate it.
I like the steel-wheel i hope other brands implement it. The plastic ones are such gunk collectors and are impossible to thoroughly clean.
The metal ones just corrode though
@@craigjamroz7585 yeah you get a nice scroll wheel but you’ll also be playing with a mouse the weight of 17 bricks

I wouldn't worry about corrosion. the anodizing process creates a protective layer on the alloy.
Have light marks rubbed into my plastic mice / keyboards, so expect anodizing probably would also come off with time. The oxidation might give it an interesting aged look though, depending if you like that
@@gqqggq7127 well, magnesium and aluminium oxides are incredibly hard materials
The problem is screw points. The screws can scrape off the layer and create corrosion points. Hey, but this is just speculation, I don't really know. Probably not a problem if you don't disassemble it to change switches, for example.
@GQQ GGQ magnesium doesn't corrode like other metals and give a patina. It creates a white powder that comes off easily and can "worm hole" aka continue to corrode deeper into the material unless dealt with instead of creating a protective coating itself like other metals might when they oxidize
Anything is better than "soft-touch" plastic. Even rust. However with aluminium body, rust is not issue anyway.
Should have the Lab test the glass feet vs the ptfe feet.

awesome piece - happy that i was able to place my order today! order arriving between 27th and 31st this month - cant wait for it
I can verify that hubs, even good powered ones, DO make a difference with some equipment. I.e My Razer Nommos have issues (turning off randomly) when plugged into my separately powered USB extender, however they have 0 issues when plugged directly into the MOBO. Also, great video as always!
man you have the hottest takes imaginable, first the sensor polling optimisation thing improves consistency and makes tracking better. second the plastic on the bottom is so that wireless is POSSIBLE in the first place and doesnt just randomly die. third the magnesium alloy was used in the starlight by finalmouse as well as a afew others in the past, they didnt have corrosion problems so why should this with a probably superior pain coating process? objectively the best hardware in a mouse shell today with one of the best mouse shells. im no razer shill and have 3 superlights but still...
also the pricetag is the same price as the starlight pretty much... as its ONLY competition in the market space is priced above it and there is never stock for it give it a bit more love would you?
12:40 - Audio Engineer note: the Mic is clipping a ton here.
Not for me? Maybe it's on your end
actually the motion sync makes a visible difference, it eliminates the inconsistencies you see when flicking the mouse over the desktop
I wish more mouse makers made metal/plastic/resin scroll wheels Logitech is the only one but only for very specific models. The rubber on scroll wheels feel so bad when they deteriorate.
Amazing mouse, but Razer really missed the mark on why the Viper Mini was so popular. The price point. The shape is pretty safe but not for everyone, but at such a cheap price and just a solid overall mouse, it was very hyped and recommended widely. Unfortunately, Razer saw this as a kind of push for the best of the best in a mouse, influenced by the hypebeast Finalmouse magnesium alloy mice, and perhaps innovation by the likes of G-Wolves' many ambitious strides. They made this. Sure you can argue that the many polls taken by Razer to the community over the development caused this, but they were blindsided by buzzwords... lol anyways theyre working on a non magnesium one soon, for the average consumer.
They have announced that a normal plastic version will be released with 3995 sensor and optical switches same as their flagships like viper v2 pro and deathadder v3 pro
just wait a year it will be $150
@@Tirth-Patel Yep. 2 more models coming in early summer. The Pro variant and a third probably more budget friendly variant.
Its a signature edition. Why would it be cheap?
It's called a Halo product, it creates buzz and excitement that gets people in the door, even if their budget will land them on a cheaper product down the road. Razer has a mixed bag of reputation and I think they are trying to shake the cheap "gamery" reputation.
I know this is a small critique I’d appreciate a bit more research. The bottom of the mouse is plastic not for cost savings, rather for the wireless since if it was full magnesium it can drop out connection. Same for the final mouse which has resin bottom
I still use my logitech g400s mouse that I've had for 8 years now and it still holds up to this day. It's been though it's paces being slammed, thrown, dirty ect. I've never felt the need to upgrade from it as it's perfect for me.
Mag alloy has been common in construction tools for years with no noticeable corrosion in the areas I touch.
Well magnesium is theoretically reactive. Maybe its reactive to specific stuff that the source the video referred to came across a lot? Idk.
The past couple gens of the Viper and deathadder have been really good. Razer mice are actually top tier these days.
Ageee. I have a v2 pro wireless and it’s the best mouse I’ve owned yet
Haven't they always been? I've tried many other mice over the years, but my deathadder from ~2013 is still my favourite in terms of hand shape and component quality. Always a bit confused over the bashing razer often gets, but maybe it's because I've inadvertently skipped the last 10 years of razer mice.

I have always liked razer tracking and mouse shape. They are larger mice and I much prefer the tracking to Logitech. The razer cords are waaay better as well, you don't even notice the razer cord where as other mice the cord feels like an anchor. And the scates feel smoother.
smart tracking is actually a big pluus, raw accel is still used a lot for my friends and that helps getting rid of it.
After many years of Logitech mice (and keyboards) I decided to give Razer a try with their Basilisk V3 mouse. Wowzers! I like it so much more than my Logitech stuff. I am probably still in the honeymoon stage of ownership but I don't think I have ever liked a mouse this much this fast before. I am considering giving one of their keyboards a try but don't have a good excuse to change out what I am using at this point.
It not going to last as your mouse. I did use a long time Logitech but did change for Razer what broke after a year got a new one what broke also. I did go back to Logitech.

My Razer 8K lasted 2 months before the scroll wheel gave out. Even the Glorious Model D that I gave away still works fine after 2 years and they're famous for bad QC and construction.
@@simmysims9209 Depends on how you use the mouse lol, i have had a viper ultimate for 2 years and still works great
I forgot that the main gamer complaint is that their mouse shell isn’t rigid and perforated enough.
Rigidity is more of a feeling in hand/longevity of materials kind of thing. The perforation is for the weight which is a huge thing for enthusiasts which is clearly the target market. I heard on good authority that it feels almost identical to a normal viper in the hand.
the plastic they were using before outlasted the switches anyway so what does the shell's material matter anyway?
@@MrTaunks it's the same reason people like leather steering wheels or stainless steel appliances; do they last longer, not necessarily, but they feel nicer and some people value a more premium feeling material on something they touch and hold all the time.

Magnesium is a metal that in time will evaporate on it own. And it is flammable it is what they make road flares out of. Now other metals rot away but not magnesium it goes to a gaseous state. So the metal part that craps the finish off the magnesium exposes the metal starting the evaporation. Now you can use clear finger nail polish to seal it back up and you should. And if you smoke keep it away from the mouse because that would be a really bad fire that your home fire extinguisher may not put out.
Well to be fair steel is much less volatile than iron in a typical environment. It's not pure magnesium or a powdered magnesium compound.
now if they included a wireless charging mouse pad with that, I'd be sold! I have the Logitech Pro with wireless charging and never have to plug it in and it's probably the best thing ever.
This is my kind of mouse right here. Any every day item that can be used as a weapon is my kind of product. 😂

I have had Razer keyboard and Mouse for some years and it really holds up imo. Only some miner sofrware driver issues
LTT should make a mouse training video. For example... Show us a few different games with good training parts where we could try our mouse with different configs like dpi, pulling rate, lift distance and how we should interpret the results... Because it's not only about one test, it's about doing it again and getting used to.. How much / how long should we test the configs and grip? How much is enough for us to know as much as David : I'm a 800 dpi guy.. Maybe it's a good idea.
I'm not going to promote another channel, but LTT is not the place you would want to go for something like this. They are extremely knowledgeable about tech, but not so much when it comes to taking your gaming to the next level with things like honing in your sensitivity/dpi, mouse grip etc.. You'd be much better off looking for some sort of KZhead guide by a pro/high level player for a game you play. David is entertaining and makes fun to watch videos, but he is not a great source for "mouse training".

The hub thing is real. I've tried three, and on both my Mac and PC that I connect my hub to, there are occasional ~5 second dropouts.
I don' t really like the whole Razer stuff. But they are one of the only one's that actually makes left handed mouses of some decent quality.
I remember for a hot minute glass mouse pads were all the rage. Using glass sliders on one of this is making my hair stand up just thinking about it 😬
Ice mat and Steel mat baby!
Glass mousepads are more popular then ever, and also make much more sense than glass skates on cloth pads. Easier to change out ptfe skates than ruined cloth pads
i was so happy with my pro x superlight and now you had to show me this..
If wer comparing at price point, the naga V2 pro is cheaper and has more functionality with only a slight drop in sensitivity but you get way more customisation. Granted its probably twice as heavy
I hope they make a normal wireless mini, much preferred with a DPI button (incredibly useful macro) and removal batteries (significantly cheaper)
Yeah its expensive at $280. Only if u can even find one for sale anymore since its a limited run mouse.
A LOT of vape mods are magnesium alloy. I quit vaping last year , started in 2015. From my experience the finishes never hold up for shit. I have a draw of mods that looks like they were in a war. Just from daily use.

Didn't this guy 'meh' on a Starlight mice? Charge him $100 more dollars, make it come from Razer, make it EVEN more limited, give it to him more than a full year later with some minor generational upgrades on the sensor, and he'll gush over it.
Now if they had other mice made with durable materials. I have had 3 nagas fail in the last 8 years. All after warranty - the plastic becomes increasingly fragile, screw post snap or scroll holders snap. And that's assuming their switches or scroll pot doesn't start to fail (skipping scroll or failing/double clicks).
Oil protects from corosion, it forms a polymer layer that binds to the metal and prevents moisture from reacting. So don't worry about your greasy hands, they will not corode the magnesium alloy.
I managed to get one at retail price and then sold it on eBay for $800. Nice deal. Thanks Razer.

Looks awesome, but I prefer a very heavy mouse. I know I'm weird for it, but it is what it is.
Right there with you. Feels much more accurate. I do tend to quiver ever so slightly and my super light mouse just makes it impossible to be accurate with.
I'd pick it up if it were larger. My hands can palm very large baby heads, so I need something a little more substantial underneath my mitts.
You mentioned that razor has good cables, all of my razor mice that had cables ended up breaking because of a broken cable
Ptfe feet has to be smoother. The glass feet are probably just there as an option because they should last forever.
Pricey but for something many of us use for hours a day it seems worth it. Also comes with a nice stash box.
You're better off with a g pro for half the price if you want to go top notch with your mouse But to be fair, with 280 bucks you literally can buy your whole peripherals and have a good experience
nah. i would like a $1000 dollar mouse if not a $2000 dollar mouse for my daily work. Since im using it everyday for many hours, i would prefer the best of the best. this 280$ dollar feels like ass to me. only 1k+ or more mouse seems worth it. until i found a perfect $1k+ mouse to daily drive with. im not settling with this trash razer product. The original Viper Mini has the exact same shape, only 10gr heavier and of course, wired, BUT it's only $25...
The huge fucking holes in the back is a big nope for me. Shit'd be pretty annoying in the beginning for sure. And IDK if anyone would actually get used to them. Why didn't they just go with the roccat route where they block the empty parts with a very thin layer of plastic. The marketing name for it was "bionic shell" I think.

A to c cords are still absolutely necessary, until they change all the usb ports to c which I can't see happening anytime soon especially on cheaper computers.
I just got a Logi G305 for 35$. I was using the G302, basically the wired version of this G305. I am happy. For the cost of this[in the video] mouse, I certainly won't be getting anything like it soon. I just can't justify it.
Fun fact in aviation we use magnesium alloys for landing gear wheels and gearboxes due to it's incredible strength to weight ratio
Yeah but also very prone to corrosion. Many parts are moving towards aluminum alloys instead
Razer philosophy 🤣
David is one of the most engaging presenters. I'm ready for every word he's got to say.
Asus also released a pretty awesome mouse recently, the ROG Harpe. Again insanely expensive at 160$ I think.
Well, pro cameras are made of magnesium aloy, right? Some are even waterproof, I dont think its an issue.
Mice started out lightweight, then we literally started adding weights, now we're back to wanting lightweight, but even lighter. Reminds me of cellphones. In the beginning, big was bad. Then we got the Razr, the LG Chocolate, hooo doggy! Then they decided bigger was better and now we have giant bricks we all carry around, some fold in half because even that isn't big enough. Apparently. Tech preferences are kinda funny over time.
razer seems to be picking up their quality. i picked up their optical low profile keyboard. Its super amazing compared to the low profile from logi. Still gonna be rough to get away from this logi mouse tough with the charging mat i literally never have to plug this mouse in and its amazing. Almost thinking that mouse would be sick for shooters and have the regular one for everything else

Awesome David, and excellent review. Also love the 'Don't Touch OBS Settings' on the back of the Capture Laptop - Want see more messages, or sponsors and probably memes on back of devices, just for the fun of it. So is 'SC' 'Shawn Caldera' or is it Sack Colton? 🤣
Seems pretty premium product but one thing stood out for me, they had entire marketing point about adjustable lift off but then it was only a 3-step slider? Like Sensei had adjustable lift off 12 years ago and could adjust it by individual millimeters. Had a look in the software and man, the Sensei Ten is barebones compared to the original even though this is supposed to be an anniversary edition that respects the original.. I have to take a look if I can fix my Sensei, that was such a good mouse.
LOL it is adjustable, what do you mean? There's a seperate button at 10:27 that says "Enable Assymetric-Cutoff" and yeah, you can adjust both the Lift-off distance and the Landing distance in individual millimeters between 1-26 for both, 26 being high and 1 being low.
I'd not trust even Razer's "premium" products to be good. I have their 200$ Basilisk Ultimate, and the scroll wheel is so bad. Because of their adjustable resistance gimmick, the scroll wheel is super loose, and it double scrolls, skips steps, and the steps are uneven. And the software is so bad compared to even my 6 year old Roccat Kone EMP. It can't even swap profiles automatically, like Roccat has been able to for years and years. I've had 3 Razer products, and they've all had some problems that products at that price point shouldn't have.
Love seeing David excited about stuff. Must underrated LTT members.
I love my Razer Naga. I just got a replacement for the one i bought in 2016. I hate gaming without my number-pad on my mouse. It's fantastic in RPGs.
All my cameras are from magnesium alloy and the only wear on them after years of usage are scratches.
I know a lot of people disagree, but I prefer mice with some weight to them. It would be nice to see new higher end ones that aren't super light
I'd say your sentiment is popular among most casual gamers. Super light mice are more geared towards sweaty ttv streamers, esport athletes and competitive players. I'm only semi sweaty but having so many options that fit my tiny hands is so nice tho though
Fun watching reviews for products that none of us can buy.
I’d love David to do a review of the keychron M3 wireless someday. It looks like a better g pro wireless that’s cheaper
pretty sure the plastic bottom is to allow the wireless signal to go out but could be wrong. the finalmouse had a plastic bottom too
Review is lacking a lot of important information and testing: -Repairability: How is it to take apart and put back together? -Switches: What kind? If not optical, what brand/model? Are they hot swappable? -Scroll wheel: How's it feel? Optical or mechanical? What encoder? -Are the profiles stored in on-board memory on the device, or just stored in their windows crapware? The entire market has solved wireless responsiveness and reliability and have more than ample polling rates, yet it's all they scream about in their marketing still. Meanwhile, most mousewheel encoders become unusable after 2 years of daily use, and a lot of mouse switches develop issues over that time (especially logitech, who are rumoured to overvolt them to make them wear out faster. see "logitech doubleclick"). I really REALLY hope you guys start doing real testing when "the lab" is ready but honestly, a lot of this could have been tested or looked at during the shoot.
This is not a review mate, it`s just an unboxing and first impressions, they just happen to add some specs every now and then.
its an unboxing and first impressions. Thats what this channel is.
It's a razer - what repairability do you think it has? They build devices to last until the end of the warranty.
An expensive product from Razer? What's new?
the one thing i hate about my razer mouse (death adder essential) is the scroll wheel is too easy to move. dont know whats different between it and all the other (albeit older) mice ive used, but i play a lot of TTT and mouse 3 was my main callout bind for my 8 years of playing, until this mouse. if i were to use it id also swap weapons and lose my gunfight almost everytime. so not a deal breaker but something to put out there for the 4 people in the world that have things bound to m3 and scrolling might cause issues idk 🤣
Yeah, good luck getting it at that price. Scalpers. $1,000 here in the UK atm.
David is a great presenter, he’s lots of fun on this side of the camera
Knowing Razer quality as of late, the mouse has a lifespan of 367 days.
The skeleton body may look good when it's brand new but it will trap dirt and be difficult to clean. Also unless you are in the habit of getting mad and punching your desk or throwing your mouse across the room (in which case you should be working on that instead of playing video games), I don't think durability should be much of a concern...
Durability is always a concern with razer products. Seriously, their stuff works decently but it's a certainty that they'll fail earlier than products made by their competitors. That's coming from somebody that uses a razer keyboard and mouse.
The holes here are probably big enough to toothbrush the inside
Any info on when this thing will be available to buy?
David is such a great host :)
The top end Razer gaming mice have been excellent for the last few years at minimum so I am not sure why this host seemed so apprehensive at the beginning about a new high end Razer mouse. He also mentions Magnesium Alloy being used & how he doesn't know how it would stand up over long periods of use but fails to mention that Razer took this design idea from the Finalmouse Starlight, as well as a few other things. The Viper Mini SE was released as a direct competitor to the Finalmouse Starlight, as can be seen just by viewing the two mice or comparing specifications, so I think some comparisons (or even acknowledging the Finalmouse that inspired the Viper Mini SE) would have been useful. Sometimes LTT channels hit the nail right on the head when they have people like Anthony host a video about retro game consoles or Linux, but why is this host reviewing high end gaming mice when he seems to have little knowledge about it? I'm sure he is knowledgeable on other topics, it seems like he was put in a bad spot here. This is a top end enthusiast product meant to compete with an existing enthusiast level product, I would have liked to have seen a enthusiast review it like we do for so many other types of products on LTT channels.
Because David is actually clueless about mice, plain and simple. Idk why they let him do this...
You think? Well, I sure hope that's the case because this review lacked a lot of important information about the mouse, that definitely could have fit into the video without even lengthening it. Is the profile on-board or stuck in windows? What switches does it use? How's the scroll wheel? etc.
@@narwhal4304I looked up some of his previous mouse reviews which only made me more confused. In this review he says " I don't know if there is that many devices that are magnesium alloy that come into contact with disgusting oily hands, it remains to be seen if finger grease will mess this bad boy up " Despite the fact that almost exactly 1 year ago he reviewed the Finalmouse Starlight 12 which is made out of the same material.... Did he forget that he has already used a mouse made out of this stuff?

Funny how he called the pattern honeycomb-shaped so many times yet not a single one of those holes are honeycomb/hexagon shaped lol
to be honest the hand oils probably will keep the magnesium from corroding . Since mag is hydroscopic i.e water bad for mag
I just bough a logitech M330 Silent mouse with a wireless dongle, and if I used that dongle on laptop usb-c (tb4) to usb3-c hub, it would lag (like major cut outs for 0,5-2 seconds). Altho the hub had 1gbit ethernet and steam controller plugged in as well.
Don't worry about it corroding the switches will ware out in 3 to 6 months any how I have the naga trinity and the right click is basically gone and it was gone in less than 6 months
How about a newton meter setup to measure the "slipperyness" of mice?
I know I'm kind of a sucker for this, but Razer please make a regular size Viper Signature. I loved my RVU so much
i wish i could get a bigger mouse with a bunch of side buttons, the only mouse with enough side buttons is the naga trinity, i need buttons for accessibility
Same, I've gotten used to having at least 7 thumb buttons because of the wired trinity
Add me to the list. Using G604, and in my eyes it's perfect. Infinite-scroll wheel + ton of (well-placed) buttons, wireless, 1k Hz, and only needs 1 AA battery that lasts months. For me it's as close to perfection as there is. All these FPS mice can go in the bin, I have zero interest.
