wouldnt it of been easier to start with flat foundation stones??? or make some tradtional mushroom? saddle stones like they used for pigoen lofts etc in the late medieval times

Great question, flat foundation stones would have been a lot easier! But there's three reasons I went for the individual shaping: - Curved tops prevents water pooling, which can rot the vertical post much more quickly - The fitted shape prevents the posts from rotating or moving - The overall aesthetic The traditional mushroom/saddle stones are very interesting too, but the type of stone available to me was quite soft and I believe mushroom tops made from it could crack.
