It was a tough fight, but Fenech really earned the decision. Nelson was a great champion and outboxed his opponent during the early rounds, but Fenech dictated the pace from the middle of the fight on, kept trapping Nelson on the ropes, and threw the harder punches. Nelson was lucky to survive the last round.

I scored it Jeff Fenech 115 to Azumah Nelson113. but I had the advantage of watching it from several camera angles that the judges didn't have. I'm an Aussie, but I don't think it was a robbery, it was a close fight with Fenech relentlessly attacking but Nelson's defense was very effective, it was not an easy fight to judge and there were 3 or 4 rounds that were very tough to score but when I added it up, the win should have gone to Fenech as I judged that he just won more rounds. I had JF definitely winning the 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, 10th and 12th rounds and had AN definitely winning the 1st, 2nd and 8th. The 3rd, 4th and 11th were tougher to score but all it takes is for one judge to score those 3 close rounds to Azumah Nelson and another to score two of those rounds for him to make it a split decision draw. I had the 3rd going to JF and the 11th to AN and also maybe the 4th to AN......but all it takes is for one judge to be seated in a position where he didn't clearly see a few of Fenech's punches land on those rounds and so scored those close rounds to Nelson. Maybe they should use 4 judges and the ref to score title fights?

Most spectators judge without applying the rules of the game. In boxing, most punches may be technically judged wrongly and instead minus points from the combatant who might be seen as a great fighter of a match. Without any doubt Fenech did extremely well but wasn't a winner of the day because of fouled punches. Azumah saw Fenech's high strength and determination and decided to go technical instead. While fenech was displaying strength, Azumah was adding point based on technical grounds.

Hmmmm, as a 40 plus year fan of the sport, I thought this was one of the worst decisions I ever saw... and apparently I wasn't alone as it's one of the only fights I can think of that was overturned decades after the fact... I had it 9 - 3, 10 - 4 if I'm generous to Nelson, whom I loved and thought might be a step too high for Fenech who was then attempting to become the quickest to win titles in 4 weight classes and do it as an undefeated fighter... and in this fight Fenech should've got that... that said, we all know it was the beginning of the end for Jeff as Nelson went into the lion's den and put on a clinic... that said, I believe Fenech never recovered from the disappointment of the robbery, and was no longer the beast he once was... he'd lost his mojo... but however you want to cut it, loosing it to Nelson, well there's no shame there... who would you pick in a mythical matchup at 130 with Chavez vs Nelson?

I remember watching this fight live on SKY on the undercard of the Tyson v Ruddock 2 fight in June 1991. I was a fan of Jeff Fenech and he was robbed of this decision, after giving his best performance against the great Azumah Nelson. He was never the same fighter after this fight.

Fenech was robbed in that fight. At the time if he wins that fight, he's the youngest to win 4 title's in 4 different weight classes and first fighter to do it while still undefeated. I remember watching this fight live on SKY on the undercard of the Tyson v Ruddock 2 fight in June 1991. I was a fan of Jeff Fenech and he was robbed of this decision, after giving his best performance against the great Azumah Nelson. He was never the same fighter after this fight.

The fight was in the United States. The combatants were from Australia and Ghana. No home ground advantage. May I suggest watching the fight and understanding who the boxers are before making such statements and if you have watched previously, perhaps do it again with both eyes open.

Fenech was robbed in that fight. At the time if he wins that fight, he's the youngest to win 4 title's in 4 different weight classes and first fighter to do it while still undefeated. He was robbed in the L.A Olympics and robbed the next time he fought in the U.S.A in this fight against The Professor.

Nelson was dirty boxer punching after the bell several times and ducking his head constantly. Jeff was definitely a brawler. Nelson tried to show he could brawl but failed dismissally. Boxing at it's most corrupt here! Don King the worst thing to ever happen boxing.
