    • I mostly heard the complaint that people "unfairly" compare KH3 with KH2FM. Because apparently KH2 had the same flaws as KH3 and only the FM turned it into a masterpiece. A sentiment I disagree with. I grew up with vanilla KH2 and only played the Final Mix when 2.5 released. I still think KH2 - even in its vanilla state - is the high point in the series and leagues better tham KH3. Gameplay, story, pacing and all. Of course, the FM improved things, but it turned a good game into a great game. With KH3, I think we got a mediocre game that could become good & a satisfying conclusion of the first saga with future DLC. The question is, why should we accept or even defend this practice from SE? We got what feels like half a game with some serious flaws at full price. KH2FM should not be the pinnacle of the franchise. More than a decade later, it should be its baseline. Also: Great video with good points! I love watching constructive criticism to put my own feelings into words. This video reminded me why I was so bummed out, even angry, after finishing KH3. Nomura's interview from the KH3 Ultimania is also very insightful - but also depressing if you still care about the franchise and were disappointed with KH3.

      @Reviel17@Reviel175 жыл бұрын
    • @@Reviel17 Exactly. On pure controls and game feel alone, KH2 easily wins against any other KH game, and that's ignoring the base game's substance. I shouldn't have more trouble with base KH2's Standard mode, than with KH3's Proud mode, and I should especially be bawling a lot more from the climax than the second act. What I find the most troubling about defenders of KH3 is that they apparently don't see that people critical of it (I don't wanna say most cuz I don't have the numbers and I know some are only in it for the bandwagon) just want it to be better. I know I don't wanna take their experience with the game away, I just want it to be even better. I want Square to fix the game, I legitimately do. I don't think it's acceptable for them to have to do that, but I'd rather they did than didn't. And fact of the matter is, it can become the best game in the series trough that method. I wanna see them try, at the very least. I will say though, i don't personally feel like the game was a waste of my 60 dollars. I don't necessarily think there was a lot of it that was cut out, I just think it was mis-handled. I don't think it needs new scenes necessarily, it just needs re-writes. Now, it necessarily does need a re-design of the combat system, but I think I'm giving it a pass just because this is the best team Osaka game, at least from a gameplay perspective, I don't think many people would disagree with that, and in its own little way it's a reason to praise it. It's not acceptable, but it's reason to praise it still.

    @lowhp_comic@lowhp_comic3 жыл бұрын
    • Because in KH1 they managed to at least make it fee like Sora and pals as well as the heartless had an actual impact on the story in some way. With Tarzan, Sora was the reason that Tarzan was basically at the wrong place at the wrong time for most of it while the Darkness in the hunter's heart attracted the heartless. In Atlantis, Sora directly strengstens Ariel's desire to leave the ocean. In Olympus Coliseum Sora helped foiling the plot by Hades who gained the help of Cloud, basically evening the odds of another invader to the world. For Wonderland Sora had to clean up the mess that some heatless had made. In Neverland, Riku and the Heartless directly worked with Hook so Sora and crew were also there to counter-measure that and put the story back to course. Similair thing for Monstro And in Agrabah Maleficent kicked off the plot and Sora and crew were just there to fight the heartless really. But yeah, each world had some kind of change to them or the story itself got kicked off by someone who was not there originally.

All of those games I didn't play or watch any cutscenes of cause really, I didn't play Chain of Memories before playing KH2, yet I was still very intrigued on what was going on. Now playing most of BBS, half of Re: Chain of Memories & all of DDD has watched away SE of the disappointment of KH3 for me. Now I may come back to KH3 though if they release a Final Mix version. Where was "Meet up with Cid in Hollow Bastion, he might be able to help us with upgrading the ship." Where was "Find Aladdin, Genie's help could become important in other worlds and we need him." Where was "Visit Leon, maybe he can help patch up your memory in Hollow Bastion / Radiant Garden." And no, I don't take "They were in a hurry, they couldn't learn all these things!" as an excuse. Sora lazed off in Tangled and Frozen, then collected 300 crabs in Pirates of the Caribbean. The time he could have used to relearn his power of waking was completely wasted in half the worlds. Kingdom Hearts 1 taught Sora things depending on the world. In Neverland, he learned to fly which he needed in the final battle of KH1. In Arielle's world, learning to swim was more often an advantage than crucial, but for KH3 it seriously could have mattered. One phase of the final boss WAS a water fight. You can just tell Nomura didn't want to do this. To be honest, I can't blame them. They wanted Toy Story in KH2 and they were shot down despite everything they did for Disney. Birth by sleep was a prequel that has so much background info that's needed for KH3 that you really can't skip it so that Kingdom hearts 0 to me. Coded and 358 days aren't as necessary but 358 days has some really important info that you can't miss if you care at all about Axel, Xion, or Roxas. Also the story in 358 days is the best in the series and only wish it had come out on PS3 instead of DS. • To me, KH3 was 50% cutscenes, 30% actual gameplay (where maybe 5-10% had actually something to do with Sora), and 20% was gimmicky, extra stuff. (Like the Bistro and shit) I felt like the majority of KH3 was a huge commercial waste.. They put a lot of time and effort putting in stuff like attack commands that mimicks Disneyland rides (for promotional purposes) ((which appeared way too often btw)), and Disney Worlds with huge names such as Tangled and Frozen - with absolutely no coherence or involvement to the plotline following Sora and the gang. Like with the pivotal scene with Elsa and Anna; Sora, Donald and Goofy were just in the background creeping. And whereeee's the strategy..? In certain fights in KH1 and 2 you had to plan ahead with abilities and/or certain equipments for the battle to succeed - or straight up survive. Here's just like... Lemme spin in this teacup

    • @@marianne9215 I agree 100% that the Tangled and Frozen worlds were just not very good plot-wise. Frozen is especially jarring in this regard. At least in the Tangled world, you still felt like a part of the world. You accompany Rapunzel and Eugene as they head to the kingdom, and you have some fun with them while you're at it. Moreover, you get a proper good-bye from both of them. The world doesn't do much more than that, but at least it's something. You don't have _any_ of that in the Frozen world. While the characters acknowledge your existence, they hardly interact with you. The whole plot plays out as if you never existed. You're just watching from the sidelines the entire time. And, the mini-game with Olaf's body is even worse than the mini-game with the dancing in the kingdom, which was actually enjoyable. That, and the final boss in Frozen makes even less sense than the one in Tangled.

In my opinion, I thought they did a great job concluding the Xehanort saga. Xehanort was beaten and accepted defeat, the Wayfinder and sea salt trios got their happy endings, and ansem reuinted with his apprentices. Of course, that doesn’t mean the story has its flaws. I do agree that it was a big disappointment that all of the important story stuff was saved for the end. I would have preferred if it was sprinkled throughout the game and not thrown at the very end. • Kh1 and Kh2 were better. Those had actual satisfying conclusions. This game felt like more sequel bait than an ending, despite the fact that it was the "conclusion" to an entire saga. The ending world was the shortest we've ever had in any of these games, and the villains got their "one line apologies" while xehanort was treated as some sort of misguided good guy instead of the insane bastard that he was in literally all the other games. The final boss fight itself was too short and underwhelming, especially when compared to Xemnas and Ansem's boss fights. It also doesn't help that Xehanort's new V.A sounded like he couldn't give less of a flying fuck about the role. I don't know how it's possible, but this game that was in development for half a decade, honestly felt rushed, especially with the ending. The story was bad. The disney worlds tried to be relevant, but their only use was introducing the "box" that would only prove to be more sequel bait and the new seven princess which also didn't matter for the story of kh3 since we knew that the 7 guardians would be found regardless. The only true worth in going their was for Sora to learn the "power of waking" which he learned through ventus, so ultimately those disney worlds didn't matter. The game was a giant waste of potential and had the worst pacing out of literally any of the other games in the series. Ultimately, it seemed more like a method for Nomura to throw a temper tantrum about Versus 13 instead of a game dedicated to kingdom hearts. It's a solid 6/10. Also fuck Kairi.

I just think that KH2 is the best also because is more grounded. I really don't like how certain scenes reminds me a show for 5 year old children. Thing that I don't remember on KH2. Ok, it is a game with Disney worlds, I don't think scenes should be idiot though, with the power of heart and little lights over people's chests. Anyway, it seems that KH2 is the definitive KH game. All the mistery around Roxas, the search for Riku and Kairy around Disney worlds. The mistery around Ansem and Xeanorth without everyone being Xeanorth and things getting exaggerated. kH2 is grounded, the features present are just on point and not to say that there's more and it's bigger. I wish on next games they don't make certain things appear awkward but interesting as in KH2.

  • My biggest problem with KH3 can be summed up in the ending. Holy crap the ending felt SO rushed and so underwhelming, there was just WAY too much stuff going on and WAY too many characters thrown in at the last minute which created a really incoherent story. I know this game may be trying to make everyone happy by giving each character their own conclusion but it's really not, and if you have to push characters aside so that others can be focused on, then that's a sign you have too many. Every time I play this game I'm always blown away by how many things had potential, fan favorites Aqua and Roxas were teased really early on, Axel was given a Keyblade and was going to be a good guy, Kairi wasn't going to be useless anymore, and every hero and villain that fans grew to love would make a comeback in this big epic finale. I have no problem with all this stuff that they wanna put in this game, but it all really suffers under it's own weight... We're trying to give all these characters their own screen time and give them a satisfying reunion/conclusion but the only way for any of them to get their own screen time is for others to be pushed aside, now that's not a good formula for giving us moments with each character. Which is REALLY apparent when you think about how this game practically sneezed Roxas and Xion at us at the very end only to be wrapped up in a quick 2 minute action sequence and a brief cutscene of them crying just so the next lot of characters can be focused on, same with Terra and the BBS cast, AND all the villains. Such a disappointing payoff for what promised to be a really emotional and powerful scene. I would've rather them cut this stuff out and worked it's way in through DLC's or even saved for a future game if it meant having a satisfying conclusion for an otherwise fantastic game. I'm serious, I actually have no problem with the rest of this game, sure there are a few little tippets here and there but other than that I think the game looks beautiful and they did a much better job this time around at making the Disney worlds feel a lot more open and alive (Like ACTUAL npcs this time around HOLY CRAP!!) and I particularly enjoyed the Toy Story and the Pirates sections. But like I said, what brings the whole thing down for me is the ending, I just felt like they didn't live up to everything that they had been building up to at that point. If this game had little more time to flesh out it's story and give each character a little more screen time then this could've easily have been the best game in the series. But as it is, it's just another solid entry in the KH franchise that doesn't fully reach the level of epicness that KH2 did. What a shame...

As the wielder of the only thing that can kill the heartless (for good), you must go to different worlds, respect the prime directive, purge the heartless and prevent them from destroying more worlds. The problem is they never got out of the PS2 episode in game development while everyone else has long since moved forward. What they need is focus and to bring in people who truly specialize in cinematic and long form storytelling to work with their people. Heck maybe invest in some mocap and actors for all these cutscenes. Also cut scenes really need to be shorter. There is nothing interesting about seeing people sit and do nothing for 10 minutes repeating dialogue. Again other studios have solved this. They just have character talk as they got the next destination. After this they need a clean slate. No Roxas, Aqua, or that one person. Org 13 is done, it's over. Nix the uniform. Disney might need to go as well. Keep Donald/Goofy(or bring in some new sidekicks). KH needs freedom but also a lot of checks.

  • The Osaka team ruined KH3's combat. I'm not sure whether Nomura or Disney is mostly to blame for the crap story, though. I'd say everything that sucked about the Disney stories was Disney's fault, and everything that sucked about the original story was Nomura's fault. Like most of the people here, I still deeply enjoyed it, but I knew long ago that this game would NOT be KH2, even before we ever saw the first concept trailer. DDD and Coded took away all the mystery of what this game would be about, and all the trailers spoiled everything else. I knew it wasn't going to be nearly as good as KH2, and honestly, that really helped to curb a lot of the disappointment on my first playthrough, and it allowed me to enjoy the game for what it was without getting caught up in what was lacking. That being said, Square Enix still botched this one bigtime. True, it's better than nearly all of the interim games as a complete package, but that's not the standard we should be judging it by. For as much buildup as this game had, not only in terms of the years of waiting but also in terms of the endless supplementary stories that were leading up to it, this should have been something monumental, and it fell really flat. I cried a lot at the ending just because of the catharsis of the reunions, and I really did think it was great, but the ending should not have been the only part of the game like that-it should have been like that throughout the game. It should have been sweeping, grand, epic, and world-shattering, but instead everything of importance was just relegated to the Keyblade Graveyard, one of the most boring worlds in the series, and few of the characters were treated with any modicum of care, respect, or imagination. I've had months to stew over this game, and my conclusion is that it's a really good game, but that's still so far below what this particular game should have been. It should have been perfect. Now, having read all the early warning signs made it so I wouldn't be as deeply impacted by the disappointment as many others were, but that doesn't change the fact that the destination absolutely did not justify the journey.

    @Kira1Lawliet@Kira1Lawliet4 жыл бұрын
  • I couldn't agree more with you. KH3 is easily one of the most disappointing installments in a series I loved while I was growing up. I'm utterly astounded that a game can be both so basic and clunky and simultaneously frustrating as hell to play. Instead of appealing to longtime fans, their target audience was clearly kids who just wanted to see their favorite Disney movies like Frozen transformed into game format. I hate how the developers did NOTHING to tweak Frozen's or Tangled's plots to fit with the themes of KH. Oh, and don't even get me started on the absence of FF characters...removing a key element to the franchise wasn't a good move. That's even more proof to me that the developers were appealing to a less mature audience. I think my favorite point that you made is 'WHY does any of this matter and why do we care?' I asked myself that over and over while I played the game and hit DNF because I felt too old to keep playing. It wasn't just the unsophisticated controls and lack of agency over the special attacks that annoyed me, it was the lack of heart (pun intended) and how as a longtime fan, I felt alienated. A younger kid will probably love KH3's bright graphics, the borderline silly, confetti-doused special attacks, button mashing for a luck-driven win, comically overdone bosses with no meaning -- but a more mature and thoughtful fan will feel totally lost here. I firmly believe that KH3 should never have even been made. Sorry that so many white knights down-voted, because you're absolutely right on all points.

But they are also required to fully enjoy KH3. Also I believe Nomura stated in a previous interview that he didn’t want to remaster all of the games if no one was going to buy them. This is why 1.5 and 2.5 were separated. If 1.5 was successful, he would then make 2.5. Although originally I think he didn’t even want to make a 2.5 as he wanted to save time for development on KH3. His entire end game was to bring balance to both light and darkness, which is a thing that’s been known since BBS. And once Sora defeated him, he gave up and realized he couldn’t beat Sora. After that, he gave Sora the X-Blade and said “very well done”. Personally, I thought that was the best ending for Xehanort they could have done.

    • @@BobbyTheGamerOfJUSTICE bro I played all of the games and idk what you're talking about when it comes to Zion and even if my memory is foggy she was just there in this game with no explanation. Also yeah the organization members did lol. And bs xehanort was all about the darkness even in bbs. And if you disagree with everything i said im waitong to hear about the rest. Like the filler bs and Kairi and Axel. Im particularly curious on your thoughts on that. I mean there was literally no mid game.

      @Ephremjlm1@Ephremjlm15 жыл бұрын
    • I will agree with the filler bs the game had. But Xion’s thing was explained in the secret reports from the post game. And were apparently going to get more information about her through the upcoming dlc. And no, the organization members didn’t apologize. They were given redeeming moments yes, but none of them said “I’m sorry”, with the exception of Saix. And no, Xehanort was not all about darkness. In the Xehanort reports, he clearly states that he wants to bring balance to both light and darkness. If you didn’t read those, you then missed on some important information.

  • I 100% agree with you!! I’ve played all KH and 100% all of them. But 3 feels unfinished.

    @Coouge@Coouge5 жыл бұрын
    • I don’t get how it feels “unfinished”. It just lacks content. There’s a difference between something lacking content and “missing” content.

      @BobbyTheGamerOfJUSTICE@BobbyTheGamerOfJUSTICE5 жыл бұрын
    • "lacking content" and "missing content" are synonymous. And yes, KH3 felt unfinished compared to KH1 and KH2, this one when I played it, it really felt like it was rushed. Not a lot of thought put in the gameplay. They focused too much on the cutscenes.

      @Coouge@Coouge5 жыл бұрын
    • @coouge Agree to disagree then. I personally thought the gameplay was really well thought out, and the game didn’t feel rushed to me.

    • @Andrés Francia i'm sure he'll find some way to majorly screw up ff7 remake, but like you said most won't be bothered by it. with the absurd anount of hype, it could be 100 times worse than kh3 and many would still praise it and act like we're idiots for being disappointed by it. it's like hype brainwashes many to the point where the quality of the end product no longer matters.

  • What bugged me the most, was the god awful pacing, like you mentioned in the video. Would it have been so bad, to for example rescue Aqua somewhat earlier, and have her rest? After the next world we could have saved Ventus, and taken our time with him resting, or even anything else, so not only the last 5h this game are relevant?
