Anya Taylor-Joy’s career has been so steadily on the rise. It has been a pleasure to watch her develop her craft.
She's certainly very smart in how she's managing her career. She continues to push the boundaries of the roles with which she portrays.
Her witchcraft you mean? 😁
Good to see white western women succeeding and finally have a historical movie with no br*wn "people"

Casting Alex is probably one of the best decisions in movies in a while. Dude is outstanding and is basically already a viking.
Basically already a viking? How so?
Hes from Sweeden and that whole area was Norse...he has also said in interviews he wanted to write or do a Viking movie. Plus hes the image we associate with Vikings and on a funnier side note.. He did get famous playing Eric the Viking in True Blood... 😁 I think hes perfect for this role. His brother played viking in Vikings too. Would have been super great if ALL the Skarsgards were in this.
@@m.m14433 did you read his last name?
@@m.m14433 Well his father Stellen was in the 'Thor' movies (albeit those are MCU movies rather than Norse movies or Viking movies) and one of his brothers Gustav was in all 6 seasons of 'Vikings'.
@@bstech7888 Maybe in 'Vikings: Valhalla' gets renewed for a few seasons after season 1 they'll cast Bill as someone. Or maybe once either Netflix or DisneyPlus make a tv or movie series out of the 'Magnus Chase and the Gods of Asgard' book series (they're doing Percy Jackson and Kane Chronicles, we'll have to wait till both of those and the Heroes of Olympus series are done but they're as good as in the bag), he'll get cast (I just got an image of him playing Loki). Of course we don't know as what kind of a role might be available for him in 'Vikings Valhalla', right now I"m too busy worrying that they'll mention Olaf the Stout (he's confirmed to be portrayed in the show) but that they won't mention Tore Hund (which is ridiculous since he's the one who's supposed to have killed him).
I miss movies like this. Great stories, great acting, and beautiful cinematography.
Yes, totally agree. Green screen even for scenes outside is fine but not constantly.
you can't really say any of those things for certain based on a trailer - if you think you can you have a very shallow understanding of what acting and cinematography are
@@helvete_ingres4717 I think she meant the genre and she projected the scenes and setting of the film. For example it's not going to show the characters suddenly sail to another part of the world and have a totally different storyline, rather the story will be based on the particular region in this case Scandinavia, and have some interesting plotline.

Anya Taylor-Joy might be my favorite actress of all time. She NEVER disappoints. This movie looks LEGIT!
I'm so excited to see Bjork in a film again. She was so amazing in Dancer in the Dark but decided that she wouldn't act again because it was too emotionally taxing. For her to be willing to come back into the film industry for this definitely says something.

Because no one else is hyping him up in the comments, let me just say that I'm SO excited to see Claes Bang in this! He was outstanding in Dracula and has been great in all the Danish roles I've seen so far.
I'm a Scandinavian ( Swedish citizenship, but Norwegian, Danish and Swedish Blood) and I've deeply studied this era since I was a teenager. What is really cool is the recreation of historically accurate costume and society in this movie. So much has been lost to time, but the sagas and archaeology have given us hints as to what the world would have been like. I can see reams of inspiration from a panel of a previking era helmet from the Vendal period, found in sweden. It shows the wolf warrior/berserker and a horned god/dancer with spears which looks identical to what we see in this film.
Yes I noticed that too, reminded me of the panel straight away! I recently drew the same figures mixed with some mammen style Art.

@Exploring Beyond it's a slow burn kind of phycological horror that is all about atmosphere. If slow burn isn't your thing then it won't be your type of movie. @Exploring Beyond i watched it 5-6 times, it is in colonial english, and by the way "nothing happens", i watched the whole new star wars, loads of things happened, but i coulndt care about anyone in the movie, not even BB8, cos loads HAPPENED, and they didnt matter, the script was TERRIBLE, the acting worse, nobody had charisma
@Exploring Beyond It's actually a great movie. You just lack an attention span, which is a problem that seems to be getting worse as time goes on.
@Exploring Beyond well you don't really have anything to say about it if you didn't bother to finish it because something most definitely happens. It's a pretty good movie. Hereditary on the other hand is a boring movie where nothing really happens but that has nothing to do with this.

If the plot seems a little generic, that's because the viking prince in this movie (Amleth) is the direct inspiration for Shakespeare's Hamlet. Hamlet has been adapted in many different forms over the years in ways we're all familiar with, most notably The Lion King. The real strength of this movie is going to be the atmosphere Robert Eggers is so brilliant at creating and the amazing casting job which includes THE Bjork as a pagan witch and Ethan Hawke as the titular character's father and king. Truly looking forward to this viking epic.
This look like the Nothlanders grafic novel or comic the story of Sven it’s from 2013
This is a very generic plot in a lot of Skandinavian sagas about vikings
I wish the trailer was more abstract. It's fine that the plot is generic but I can't stand when trailers just layout what the 1st 2 acts of the movie are gonna be
Yeah, I find it quite amusing when people accuse it of being cliché when the story being told is literally the origin of the cliché. It's like the opposite of the 'sins of the father' concept.

Not every detail needs to be historically accurate in movies but that one does away with just about any semblance of historical truth
You mention historical action movies and then mention three movies of which two are based on myths and one is loosely based on the diary of a singular individual containing fantastical elements. All are great movies in their own right but just because a movie has a historical setting it does not mean it is a historical movie. If that was the case every fiction that exists in our supposed reality, present or past, would be a historical movie because it has a setting that exists in our history. That being said this does look really good but until we know if it's just a fiction or based on historical events I wouldn't call it a historical movie. Just like Vikings isn't a historical series. If you want to watch a really good historical series that is well documented and which involves vikings then I can warmly recommend The Last Kingdom.
