I've tried this I got small black buckets at Dollar tree fill them up 3/4 put a dunk in them and it really really works it's amazing
I use 5 gallon buckets. I put a teaspoon of Summit Mosquito Bits in the buckets once a week. It's totally safe because the buckets are up high so critters can't get into them. The stuff is contained in the buckets. No more bites. Complete mosquito elimination for 2 years for $31. I spent $15 for 3 buckets and $16 for a large container of Summit Mosquito Bits. The Mosquito Bits are supposed to last for years if kept in a cool dry place.
@@ParallaxView111 fair warning, I used a 20 gallon black trash can for this very reason until I found a dead squirrel in it that couldn't get out. Not sure how I missed a squirrel in there, but somehow I did. Now I use smaller critter friendly buckets.

will be setting up three black 5 gallon buckets this evening! this is south florida so the mosquitos never go away.
🌈I’m a physician, ND, practicing 35-40 yrs , doing research in botanical meds and having to deal with mosquito borne diseases in the tropics, Grenada. Your contribution and rationale is solid. I’m behind this presentation as being scientific and effective. You are right by the common and scientific definition of “chemical”. The natural byproducts of other organisms are not considered chemical, even though they can be described as chemical compounds. Water can be described as a chemical compound, H2O, as can saliva, insulin and other compounds in a healthy human body. It’s good that this issue arose to clarify to many curious people the difference between safe, natural chemicals and some dangerous synthetic chemicals. Thanks for having the courage to move forward and clarify in the presence of ignorant attacks. PS. The gnats (sandflies, midges) that these fungal spore byproducts also kill are equally annoying and dangerous as “moskies”(down-under term for mosquitoes). Gnats use soil like moskies use water to hatch larvae, so I theorize that watering ones garden, potted plants, compost heaps, etc., with a solution of your mentioned products would be a good attack method on these “no-see-ums”💥
Thanks. I appreciate that.
This was the comment I was searching for! Highly allergic to noseeums and herbicides/pesticides. I feel guilty for throwing diatomaceous earth all over my property because you kill the good bugs too! Can't wait to try this! Bat house will be installed this week too.
Watering the garden with this solution but do you think it would be safe for the plants and will gnats be drawn to this solution in standing water???
A lot of times, companies have to put warnings and so forth for insurance purposes.
Technically everything is a chemical (including air and water) and there are many chemical reactions in the formation and function of living things. Digesting food and breathing involve many chemical reactions. It's semantics though. The point is that the active ingredient in dunks is not a synthetic or man-made substance but a bacterium. It's about as organic and safe as any pest control can be. Great video!
You're a good guy who's just trying to put your experience and knowledge to use by helping others. Anyone with half a brain would be able to tell that. Anonymous internet commenters just love to attack and act superior over others. They are usually young 20 to 30 something year-olds who think they know everything. Armchair experts at their worst. I wouldn't have given them the time of day, but I admire you for defending yourself and going the extra mile to clarify on the product details. Keep doing what you do brother. Your channel is really great stuff. Have good one and take care 🍻
Actually, I saw those negative comments as an opportunity to do a follow up video on my other video. @@ThatKiltedGuyDIY I wouldn't be surprised if pest control companies are leaving negative comments on your videos. I had one. They had a contract that required me to pay $98 a month from April to September. They sprayed poison on everything, including flowers. They were killing all pollinators, not just mosquitos. Pussy control companies really suck. Now I use Summit Mosquito Bits, and have only spent $31 over two years for complete mosquito removal. Dragonflies and humming birds are still hanging around my yard. I assume they eating gnats and flies now.

The previous home owner built a deck very close to the air conditioner. It drains under the deck and is always wet there, hence a massive mosquito infestation. I purchased a black plastic oil drain pan at Dollar Tree, filled it with water and put a dunk in. Then slid the pan under the deck. It sounds like it’s safe for animals, but I can put a piece of metal screen over the pan if I have any concerns. The screen will keep animals from drinking the water, but the mosquitos will still have access. Thanks for the info!
I used to apply this larvacide. It works fast and is safe. We drove through swamps and sprayed it in the water. Ours was called Vectobac.
Great video and well presented, I like how you laid out the facts with no emotion but left yourself open at the end to countering facts or opinion. Not only was this a great video on the subject presented, but its a great teaching video for younger people on how to defend a position in a way that encourages discussion vs. shutting it down. I’m a retired executive but still curious, I actually like to view videos on everyday topics to see how people support or defend a view. Let’s just say some do it very well, as you demonstrated, and some do it very poorly. Probably not the comment you expected but I felt it was worth acknowledging, nice work!
Hey, I truly appreciate comment. It was different, but nothing wrong with that. Thanks

Great video. Thank you
Dunks really work! Been using them for a couple years now. We have a lot of carnivorous plants that require being in water all the time. I figured out , just this year to allow the trays to evaporate at least for one day to prevent mossies lavae from living. We do have a small container pond as well. The south side of our house is well shaded. What would a person use to treat areas where there's lots of shade and lots of mosquitos? Thanks for the video! Moses should've left the 2 mosquitos off the Arc. Just saying.
You the man I wish I could be like you when I grow up
Super grateful for this information. But unfortunately I am not finding mosquito dunks on Amazon or Amazon Mexico, following your links.
I used them last year after I seen that video. Had alot less Mosquitoes around my house and I live in a small village that has a lot of marshy water at the one end of town
I’ve tried this in the Houston area where we have domestic ,Zakia, Aedes Aegyptii. Commonly known as Yellow fever mosquito. ... Aedes Albopictus. Commonly known as Asian Tiger Mosquito. ... Anopheles Quadrimaculatus. Commonly known as Common malaria mosquito. ... Culex Pipiens. Commonly known as Common house mosquito/northern house mosquito. And placed several buckets around my property and have not been bitten except once or twice since then. In Atascocita area.
IT WORKED! Put mine out middle of May. 6 buckets about half full I used clean water 1whole dunk per bucket So thankful I watched the video
Yes! I made three dunk bucket traps in the small woods behind my house. I was getting swarmed- now I’m not!!! It took about 8 days to really notice a difference but now that are gone. Wow!!!
i appreciate this video, however there is one thing that really bothers me: the reckless way that most people use the word "chemical." while it's true that the vernacular of the word is often used to refer to a compound created artificially, in terms of chemistry as a science and the core concept of what a chemical is there is literally nothing that humans interact with that is not a chemical (with the exceptions of things like light or electrons, but hopefully this is obvious). water is a chemical. air is a chemical. apple juice and milk are chemicals. so to say that chemicals are inherently bad is just as wrong as to say that any particular substance isn't a chemical. i will grant in this case that mosquito dunks are making use of organisms, which arguably are not chemicals in themselves but certainly are amalgams of chemicals and release chemical compounds. my hope to see scientific illiteracy reduced in the united states and the world, and the use of vernacular words like this only further fuel this kind of misconception. again, i appreciate the video and the attempt to clear this up.
great video! Tell me how do you keep your work bench so clean? LOL
I don't lol
Great product. Our kids used to suffer with mosquito bites where we like in the country. We put them on the cow troughs, and it makes a huge difference. Way better than spraying children down with deet.
Do u ever get over by the Tampa area? I need so much help at my house! I’m disabled, and alone, in lots of pain. My house needs so much work, and u are the best!
Never been to Florida
I totally agree. I bought the stuff to try in my backyard today. Thank you for helping me kill those little blood suckers.
I’m going to try the dunks as soon as I can get to the store. Mosquitoes love me. I put bug spray on every day. I know it is not good for me but it is better than itching continuously. Thanks 👍🇺🇸👍

There are several species of BT and as an organic gardener I consider them a natural control and safe for use. I have used BTK for the caterpillars on my cabbages. I've also used the BTI found in Mosquito dunks in my rain barrel, water garden and even some small free standing water features. The BTI in Mosquito dunks works fast, last year I had a small container with water in it that was teaming with mosquito larva. I just crumbled a little bit of one dunk into the water and several hours later they were all dead. I don't expect to rid the world of mosquitos and don't want to they are an important part of the web of life, but these dunks help keep the population right around my house under control.
Exactly
So I don't really need to throw the whole dunk in my 5 gallon container and it'll still be effective???
@@mercedesbenzs600bash for only 5 gals I'd just use 1/4 of one. For some big flower pots I use as water gardens I use 1/2 of a dunk in each. I'd guess they are about 30 gals. The water barrel gets a whole dunk. For my little water feature I just crumble a little in. Check for larvae to see if there are any and adjust amount as needed.

Chemical or no chemical,im using it,if it means less mosquitoes im all for it,i mean who really likes mosquitoes,do these dunks dissolve like an alka seltzer??? Great information my man...
Benificial bacteria is pretty popular in organic gardening. We wouldn't exist without bacteria. But the products I have have many bascilus species just not this specific one. Probably because they kill beneficial nematodes. I apply a small amount to surface of soil to help control gnats.
How do you stop fly larva from growing in the buckets?
Im fine withe the active ingredient, I wanna know what theother ingredients are. I want to grow try growing rice in buckets
I have a lot of ponds and they work for me.
Can we use it at a swimming pool that have lot off water in that we can not get out bianca from Pretoria South Africa

Thank U for your time n research. Yes, birds n bats eat mosquitoes; but, I agree with you that I doubt that the world is ever going to get rid of all of them. I'm am curious as to if mosquito dunks will do harm to butterflies and bees too tho'(?) Thanks again from SW Oklahoma 🦋
They won’t. This targets only mosquitos 🦟 and flies 🪰 i think it said. 🦋
Dunks is a bacteria that can kills larvae that live only in standing water. It does not kill flying insects that are drinking water. Butterflies do not lay eggs in water like misquotes
Thank you for this
Words have more than one definition. You read a single definition of chemical.
Physical scientist here: People are such assholes on the internet.....it's clear in this context that by "chemicals" people generally mean "DDT style pesticides", as in the kind that kill pollinators, cause cancer, etc. Context is important, since, by the dictionary definition, water IS a chemical in certain settings (like labs where it has to be so pure it can't even be exposed to air, or where water would be a contaminant). No rational scientist would consider water a chemical in this context. You shouldn't have had to make this video, but great information nonetheless. Subscription earned.
Last time I checked they are safe for animals, people including rain barrels. I wouldn't eat them but they do work
They taste like chicken… uhh, so I’ve heard…
VERY interested in a similar solution to rid my dogs of fleas... Thanks

@@ThatKiltedGuyDIY Thanks, how and where do we apply it pre-emptively, before they manifest on my pets? I was thinking about interrupting their life cycle similarly.
Hello, I have two backyard ducks. Last summer (2022) I was eaten alive by mosquitos. This year I have added a little bit to their water bucket and their swimming pool. I change their water every evening and put clean water every morning along with crumbles of the Mosquito Dunks to their water bucket and swimming pool. MY QUESTION IS - My female duck is exposed and drinks the water in the water bucket and swimming pool. She is an egg layer. Are the eggs safe for humans to eat if she is exposed to the dunks? Thank you.
Yes. It’s just a bacteria that only affects the mosquito larvae
So I keep doing this in 4 different "catch areas" on my property, but the insane amount of mosquitoes means that I need more than 1 solution. I'm currently trying tougher than toms in coordination with tilted guy's technique as well as a zapper and a dynatrap. The zapper averages about 500 zaps a night (seems like 5-10% are mosquitoes) and the dynatrap which doesn't seem to be all that effective either on attracting mosquitoes. If all of this in combination doesn't work, I will be investing in a mosquito magnet trap.
How much land are you on? You may have a problem with neighbors not doing their part. If you’re on more than 1 acre, try doubling the amount of buckets.
@@ThatKiltedGuyDIY 1/4 acre. I do have a drainage fully behind my house as well as a stagnant pond a hundred yards away that I can't get to
Came here for information on mosquito dunks. Leaving here with the extential question of "can you lick your butt?" Scholars will speak of this one day. 😂
I got a question, just watch you interesting concept for killing Mosquitos abd it makes a lot of sense, thank you. My question is, I am a animal lover and wander if I setup those buckets and my animals drunk from it and knowing that mosquitoes have parasites? Will my animals by drinking that water with the dead mosquitoes? Will they be also be infected by the parasites and cause unknown health problems?
No, it’s safe for animals to drink. They say it kills the mosquitoes before they fully mature and they are killed in the larva stage. Plus they have to bite you to transmit anything anyway.
@@ThatKiltedGuyDIY Thank you so much😊
its safe, I placed this kind of BTI insecticide in my daphnia culture and it didn't killed my daphnia since the mosquito pupae doesn't eat at all, it wont harm them though
How about adding guppies a fish that eat mosquitos to any standing water and are they what is called " mosquito fish " ?
Mosquito minnows. We put them in all of our stock ponds and yard fish pond. They eat the Mosquito larva. They are relatively easy to find in calm backwater areas. Just use a fine mesh net to scoop some up. They will reproduce, given a bit of time. They also give live birth, they don't lay eggs.
