DEADLY GERMAN FIREPOWER: Hightech Weapons of the Bundeswehr | WELT Documentary

2022 ж. 10 Қар.
5 528 173 Рет қаралды

The striking power of an army depends crucially on the weapons in its arsenal. This also applies to the Bundeswehr. Although there is much debate about its operational readiness, the Bundeswehr has highly modern and effective weapons systems. Some of these systems have already been successfully deployed on foreign missions in recent decades. They are suitable in the fight against smaller terrorist organizations or protecting field camps in war zones.

    • @@Lupus_Indomitus But you already know that, for example, a tank is declared "not operational" if the turn signal or the brake light does not work or a few indicator lights have failed? In an emergency, these trivialities would not really thwart the use of the vehicles, in peacetime and possibly when marching on public roads almost everything must comply with the approval guidelines of normal vehicles. A tank is no longer operational even if its regular maintenance cannot yet be carried out, e.g. because the new air filter is missing... In an emergency, nobody is interested, so you should not overestimate these statements about the usability of the device.

    • True but thats what helped them lose the war ,everything was over engineered like there tanks, too good considering they didn't last long ,they could of made 5 tanks instead of 1 really reliable and absolutely impeccably well engineered tank

      @decler-gt7nu@decler-gt7nu Жыл бұрын
    • @-gt7nubruh, thats not true. overengineered thats right. but if you look up germanys production in ww2 the output is unbelievable. they had production caps 1:1 to the US which is like 30 times the size of germany. ofc the amount of tanks they put out were limited but those tanks were extremely efficient. kill ratios about 1:15 against russia and easily 1:5-1:7 against the US. germany fielded 26000 Tanks against 150.000 tanks (us and russia) and still would have had the upper hand if they would have fought them one by one. Just a reminder. in 1939 germany had a total amount of 700 tanks. it took 6 years to arm up on the go. Germany lost to their arrogance, not to their tech. They heavily relied on armed up trucks and basically implemented the use of heavily armed ifvs. this was mostly related to the fact germany has little to no natural fuel source and had to be fuel efficient while fighting the whole world. it was definately arrogance. if hitler would have just ignored russia and would have rushed the US earlier in the war, they would probably just have won by the fact the US wasnt ready for war until 43.

  • 27:38 the lightening paint job on the Eurofighter is SO SICK! Is that a common design on their jets??? I love it! Also, all of these weapon systems are insane! The Germans are so innovative. They always have been.. Despite all of the atrocious, evil acts performed by Hitler/the Nazis, you cannot deny that even back in that era the Germans achieved some incredible technological feats, and made inventions that us in the U.S., as well as several other countries took note of and basically copied. German people are just extremely intelligent and innovative. Also, watching this documentary, as I sit here in awe of these insane weapons, I can’t help but think to myself, “and Putin and many Russians really think they can fu€k with NATO?!” They are out their damn minds if they really think they could stand a chance against NATO, in a CONVENTIONAL war that is… unfortunately, if god forbid a war with Russia should ever come to fruition, I’m pretty certain that once NATO wipes the floor with Russia, and Putin is completely backed into a corner, he would likely resort to using nukes. In that case, there will likely be no winners. We can only hope that he would spare humanity from extinction, and follow the same steps Hitler took, and turn it into tradition. Putin is very much like Hitler, after all.

  • The MG5 is extoled as the coming or even introduced most advanced machine gun out of the German production, but the tests, under combat conditions, draw another picture. It is correct, that this system, compared to the MG42/3, is easier to handle, to carry and has a lower recoil (makes it easier to shoot with for the averagely lighter female soldiers), but I personally always would prefer to have MG3s in a platoon, group or troop. Reasons: 1. Higher fire rate, up to 1200 rounds per minute: Means, that you have, in the short firing sequenzes seen (three to five shots), less drifting of the MG on the same amount of rounds, because they get out faster (in sequenze and Vmax). This means a higher strike rate at less time. That is, what counts on the battle ground. 2. Barrel change: The barrel of the MG5 might be changed easier, because of the heat protection, but a trained MG3 shooter team doesn't need the heat protection, because the barrel flips out to the back when opening the barrel changing flap by lowered back of the MG. Additionally the replacement barrel can be pushed in from the back, in cover, without moving the gun out of the firing direction. Doing the same on the MG5, you must either pull back the gun or get out of cover, to replace the barrel. Both are not very inviting options under fire: One costs time and the other possibly the live. 3. Malfunction of the weapon: At the MG3 it's normally a broken bolt or some other jamming of the clasp. The clasp itself can be replaced within five seconds and a trained soldier is able to replace a broken bolt within 30 second (under the condition that the clasp is cold enough, to fix it with bare hands). MG5: If my informations are right (source: German Marine shool, Flensburg), a jammed weapon or broken bolt is a case for the weaponery repair unit. Even the trained weapenory sergeants are obviously not able to do some field repairs or maintaining on the MG5, because the technic of clasp and reloading automatic is to complex. Just to remember: This should be my main weapon, fighting infantry, and on the battle ground one won't have a repair unit to fix this within seconds, in an ongoing fight ... MG5 is, in my opinion, a step backwards. The same is to be diagnosed for the G36 (standard assault gun of the German army). Compared to the previous G3 this is lighter, (which again might be a plus for the female soldiers), but less accurate, with a high aberation caused by environmental influences, a low secure fighting distance and a very low impact on hard targets, such as armour (even light body amour), unarmoured vehicles, bricks and so on. With the G3, a trained shooter, has an effectiv fighting distance up to 200 or even 250m, without any optical support and under nearly all daylight weather conditions. The G36 is good for 50 to 100m combined with windless, clear, blue skies. This may fit to urban warfare, but not to open field combat. In addition one has to supply two different types of ammunition for G36 (5,56x45mm) and MG5 (7,62x51mm). MG3 and G3 are using identic 7,62x51mm. The new concept is not very convincing to me at all. Regards Th. Krapf

    @ThWKrapf@ThWKrapf Жыл бұрын
    • A higher fire rate is only useful when you actually have the ammunition stockpiles to keep the gun fed. And that's exactly where the German military has a problem right now. Also, not really useful when a two second trigger squeeze empties a whole magazine. Requires lots of trigger discipline of the shooter to not waste precious ammo. When suppressing an enemy, a lower rate of fire is just as effective and more economical. Not that a machinegun is much use in a modern artillery and drone dominated conflict where a soldier in the field is likely to never really engage other infantry directly and is most likely to die to something he never even sees coming.

      @axelhopfinger533@axelhopfinger533 Жыл бұрын
    • As someone who has extensively used both, the MG5 is lightyears better. Not even a comparison. They tried to mount picatinny rails on the MG3 but the upper reciever isn't mounted with decent tolerances so it would lose zero after every round fired. And we need pic rails, because we run thermal scopes on our MGs which increase their combat effectiveness tenfold. MG3 is a relic and does not suit this age of warfare.

    • @@lindaatkinson3962 Hello Linda, unfortunately or fortunately, yes. It was my job for three years to train new recruits on these weapons in cold war times. To transform recruits to soldiers, competent in the use of their weaponery, you need to know exactly, what are the tops and the weaknesses of these guns, to get these employed in the most effecient way. My son went to the army a year ago. He explained to me, how they were trained on the new standard weaponery and how the shooting with these was. In the German army we have a badge, called "Schützenschnur" (the best tranalation would perhaps be "shooters award"). Threre are three degerees of it. To get this award, you have to shoot on several distances with pistol (25, 50m), assault rifle (200, 300, 400m) and MG (400, 1200m) and hit all targets properly. What shall I say ... The soldiers of Bundeswehr of today, while shooting for Schützenschnur, don't use the G36 and MG5, but the G3 and the MG3, because they are performing a lot better and more precisely. Regards Th. • 12:53 Unfortunately quality isn't everything and you shouldn't completely forget quantity. Our 270 Leopard 2 MBTs are hardly sufficient for neither national defence nor NATO alliance defence. Germany should have at least 2.500 of these to be able to conduct large scale operations against a near-peer adversary...

  • Having impresssive high tech weaponry developed is one thing. Having enough of them produced and stockpiled to actually make a difference in a large scale protracted conflict is another. And one cannot produce high tech weaponry when the industry lacks the crucial natural resources and energy to make them affordably. As Germany is learning painfully right now. In the end, lots and lots of old equipment and manpower still beats small numbers of modern top equipment and lacking qualified personell to deploy it at scale.
