  • Giving music to other species is a nice gift. I play guitar on my porch and the birds come by and sit on the fence and watch. I generally play the same tune to call them over and sometimes I'll hum, too. This is a such a nice video, thanks for upldg!

  • When I was a kid living by the sea I would go walking on the rocks near the dock...Then someday out of nowhere an Orca swam right passed me... I stopped and the Orca came back and bobbed it's head out of the water like to look at me. It came closer and began doing sounds and splashing water. As a kid instead of being fascinated I got scared and ran home. I always wondered what would have happened if I would have stayed there. I've been fascinated by Orca's since that encounter

    • you're lucky, I wouldn't have run away. when I was a small child I was very interested in animals, I watched the Nat Geo Wild channel many times and often caught lizards and big spiders and snakes. I've already thought about the fact that if I had been born in Florida, I would have caught smaller alligators and pythons instead of lizards. :D I was lucky enough to hold a python in the animal garden, and it even blew its whistle, which made my classmates go crazy. if they saw an orca, I would come back later to take a picture :D I'm Hungarian 🇭🇺

  • LOVE! I sang to a couple orcas once while in a kayak. That probably would've hurt other humans ears, lol, but they hung around me for a while. I was listening to my ipod and singing along out loud. I kept giggling every time they squeaked and splashed by me. Side note: Roberto is a very handsome man. *smirk

But at the point and about 7 years ago a friend and I were paddling back to the boat when he yells "look behind you" and right next to me was an Orca. He made it in the boat I slowly paddled with it to my 16ft boat got in and it keept turning and peeking at us. I've been a surfer 34yrs. Best experience ever. I never felt like I was in danger like with bigger seals or sharks. It was an amazingly calm experience.

  • Orcas are my favourite animals and how this person interracts with them is simply wonderful and i must say i envy him so much for that... amazing

    @Pugnica@Pugnica9 жыл бұрын
    • My theory is that through the generations, from encounters with sailors, fishermen, then commercial fishermen, and other boats, Orcas put two and two together and they recognize humans as Feeders- that is they don't harm humans because they know we feed them, even if inadvertently from all the fish our fishing boats, chum lines, and fishing lines and bait attract.. They are group-family oriented so they view humans as a friend who helps them to find food. They are probably also aware we are vicious hunters (fishermen) too, just like them. This commonality helps humans to build rapport and respect from them, a necessary component of a relationship or friendship. This knowledge has been passed down through their generations. They probably notify the calves that humans are fun to play with and are for play and fishing help. I also speculate that they view themselves as "aquatically superior" to humans, which they are, so they enjoy putting on a show for us because they know we are fascinated with them. it's a form of playing, they perform for us because they know we are entertained.

Maybe because as achild my dad took me to movies and I watched this horrific movie about the killer Whales that kill humans. Sort of like JAWS but it was an orcainstead of a shark. I could'nt even see them in a magazine, I had to look away. Finally I was able to Sea World at 40 years of age. I watched the shows but wasn't able to close or even watch them through the glass. Now I'm obsessed and can't get enough. They are the most beautiful amazing creatures. I will never, ever return to Sea World again. These creature don't need to be trapped in a tiny swimming pool for human greed. It's cruel and heartless.

    • I'd suggest looking up orcafluke on instagram. While I agree cetacean captivity is a very touchy subject I also study Marine Biology and have for 24 years. Comparing this to slavery is horribly racist and wrong, same for imprisonment. You can make your point without being a gross human. Not only that, you have no proof these orcas are unhappy. I assume you think animals are better than people, yes? Then why do you so desperately try to give animals human characteristics? Orcas are orcas, humans are humans. Orcas do feel sadness and happiness, but it is in no way your right to claim if they are happy or sad based off what YOU feel as a human being. Also these orcas help scientists learn more about their behavior, up close, from birth to adulthood. Which, believe it or not, helps us protect their wild cousins. There is a lot more to this than looking at a creature in an exhibit and thinking, "Wow that must suck." Take this information if you wish, but just know your emotions on how this makes you feel does not mean it is right or wrong. What truly matters is how the orcas are, and what we can do to protect them and the ocean. Also you have no right whatsoever to claim Hazel does not love the orcas. Just because it angers you in no way means her love isn't there. Also the fact you said no animal should be in human care tells me just how ignorant and uneducated you are. It's thanks to zoos and aquariums a handful of animals have been saved from extinction. I'm pretty sure that is a lot more important than you complaining because seeing them in an enclosure makes YOU feel sad. If you hate zoos then there is a very high chance your knowledge of them are 50 years outdated. The modern zoos donate millions to conservation efforts and focus on rescue, rehabilitation, and release. But youre too ignorant to understand that apparently or too stubborn and stuck in your views to accept you're wrong. Steve Irwin was highly praised for his work and efforts. The san Diego safari park is a great place to check out if you want to learn a thing or two about zoos. And of course zoos charge per person. It isnt cheap feeding so many animals, many of which have very specific diets. Zoo staff dont get holidays or vacations. They are there all day everyday caring for the animals. The pay is awful too. Literally the only reason they do it is because they love the animals and want to help educate the public on why we should care and protect them. No durr they belong in the wild, but unfortunately the wild is not as it once was. Zoos do their best to release who they can, but some animals can never be released. Sanctuaries are just another form of ZOO and if you think otherwise you're not too bright. Greed? Again sweetie the pay is awful. You dont even GET paid the first few years. It all comes down to conservation efforts. But sure. Be a ding bat and talk badly about something you have zero first hand experience in

  • I think one reason why Orcas pretty much never attack humans is because at one point a member of a pod has probably gotten tangled in nets or beached itself too badly to get back to the sea and humans rescued it. Changing the attitude of one orca towards humans would probably spread amongst them.

    • you might actually be right! a female calf from this pod accidentally stranded herself back in the days and researchers helped her get back to her family, and some people believe that is the reason these orcas are so nice to humans!

    • it is a good explanation my friend, but i don t thing it is the truth!because there are millions of orcas around the world, thousands of pods that speak different dialogues ,and also they are thousands of dolphins also ,but none of them attack humans ,but they are trying to protect us!are in all pods of dolphins or orcas one of them be saved by humans? i dont thing so!and what if a human attack a orca ,like the fisherman who throw dynamite at them if they trying to steal the tuna fish ?why they dont hate us then and trying to kill us?no, i believe that the dolphins (orcas) have a special bond with us from the ancient times( the ancient greeks have tales about dolphins saving sealers )and i thing that the real reason is still a mystery!!!wonderful animals!

    • young Jazmin got stuck on a coral bed or something similar, and while her pod panicked, humans got her back into the water. since then, the whales have been seen approaching kayaks and beaching themselves when humans walk past.

  • IMO. the most majestic and beautiful creature in the sea. Would I trust my life to one? Yes, long before I would trust it to a human.

  • Beautiful to see wild orcas like this. SeaWorld once let visitors play with recent captives. They were not only friendly, they solicited friendship and not for food. They preferred people who didn't feed them, but the orcas sometimes brought fish to people they were trying to befriend. Trust, like the man in the video shows, was what they really wanted. If you would let them mouth a hand or arm, they would invite you to come swim. They always let go before actually pulling you into the water, if you politely refused. Once you became good friends, they would beach themselves in a shallow area for rubdowns. A number of incidents with these orcas left me believing their intelligence is comparable to human, just different. Two of them are now dead and two have been captives for over 30 years.

    • Seaworld needs your money to stay in the torture buisness. They drugg their animals with valium and far worse. Its one of the worst animal abuse company's around. Please reconsider ever giving your money to them again. Here is a link to a man who as a trainer and now is a witness to what's going on in these places. kzhead.info/sun/hNmIoMaki6usZKc/bejne.html

  • People might find it interesting to do more research. There are two distinct types of Orcas. Transient and Resident. The Resident are super complex and have amazing social relationships, with their immediate family, then a group of families called a pod, and then a group of pods that see each other every few weeks and speak the same local dialect. Then there is even larger social interactions outside of that. But they form long relationships, have very specific mating bounderies, where they only mate outside family groups which are matriarchal. So resident killer whales have long social relationships, and even have so with other mammals, like seals, and even with whales, who they regularly socialize with. I would not hesitate to swim with these animals who share much of the same brain structures with humans, Transient killer whales are super hunters, maybe the king of all the ocean as far as hunters. They do not form large social groups, and tend to have a small group they travel with, under 5 orcas, like 2 females and a male, or vice versa. They hunt and kill almost everything they can get their mouths on. They kill whales, seals, great whites with ease, etc. They are super smart hunters and I think we don't know enough about them to get in the water with them. If they eat everything else, why not humans, probably only because they are not familiar enough with us to know how to hunt us. There are occasional videos of a whale gently biting a paddle boarder, etc, and if you ask me they are testing. i lived on the coast growing up near where there was many of them, and saw them look like they were about to play with a seal, and then grab its tail and throw it thirty feet, I watched them do this in a bay for a whole afternoon, from lunch until the sun started to set. I would not feel comfortable being in any small craft like a paddleboard, surfboard, or small laser sail boat even in the water with a transient killer whale. That being said my guess would be that even transient killer whales would not treat us like prey, and would be super curious towards humans. So it totally depends on what animal you are interacting with, not all killer whales are the same temperment. Just like humans, we are not all bundles of joy and socially well adjusted, some humans are crazy, and so some killer whales can be to. But I agree that keeping them in cages is no different than keeping a human in one, actually it is worse because it doesn't understand what is happening, and that is way more terrifying. To me if a transient killer whale did end up attacking a human because maybe he/she was on a paddleboard and the orca had hundreds of thousands of years of prey instincts triggers by the shape and movement, it would not make a difference to the way we should treat these animals, they are intelligent and socially driven animals. So we need to respect that and not throw them in situations like that of Sea World without realizing that we are torturing them, and making them insane. But I just want to say, just because some person get them to come up to him on the beach, does not mean they were not debating if he was not food, and they then just thought he would be more interesting to play with. They are socially driven like humans, so they of course would react to a person on the beach in funny ways, it doesn't mean the guy has some special connection, it is just social animals being social...

    • I'm sorry to think maybe orcas do understand in some intelligent way they are imprisoned in a water cube by humans we are the ones who are doing wrong to them, these creatures are among the most intelligent species on the earth and who show an almost universal friendly interest in interacting with us, yet as humans we _wantonly_ hurt so much of what we interact with, we need to try and learn to better understand and care for a world that often shows interest and even affection with us I'm not freely advocating casually interacting with apex predators but as creatures with such recognisable and respectful sentiments we should try to be kind and respectful with them as with all animals that live and feel that said, orcas to reiterate are predators, we should understand and respect that about them as well A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
