DARK KNIGHT RISES Breakdown! Easter Eggs & Details You Missed! (Nolan Batman Trilogy Rewatch)
The Dark Knight Rises (2012) full movie breakdown! How did director Christopher Nolan adapt the Bane character from the Batman comics, and what visual details did he hide in Bane's appearance and costume? What subtle connections exist between The Dark Knight Rises and The Dark Knight (2008) and Batman Begins (2005), and how is the movie influenced by the next phase of Nolan's work, including movies like Inception and Dunkirk? When people told Nolan "Why did you stop?" He must have said "You either die a hero or live long enough to see yourself become the villan."

Seriously. I would pretty much watch any superhero-type movie if Nolan directed it at this point.
This Batman series is absolutely the best DC series they've made so far.
as of now: It's the ONLY GOOD DC movies so far...
@TheSwedishChris because it's a carbon copy of Black Panther...
@TheSwedishChris both protagonists - they're almost the same. And their rivals. And the duels. And the whole plot storyline. It's nothing but a copy - and a poor one in comparison...
The Batman trilogy is my personal favorite superhero series of all time.

This movie has really grown on me over the years. When I first heard Bane was going to be the villain I was not impressed but Tom Hardy blew it out of the water. To me, it's one of the most quotable films of all time.
Riko J. Amado I wish I could like this comment twice, I couldn't agree more. Bane particularly is immensely quotable
Like Nolan himself said, it's the villains that are the centre of attention in the trilogy movies and not Batman himself
Ahh you beat me to it :´(
Don’t forget the writers
The villains always seem to be the centerpiece of attention in a negative way pre-release, many of us saw that with Heath Ledger and possibly Liam Neeson saw a little bit of this as well in Batman begins

No one every mentions the clear mirroring of Bane abducting a scientist from a plane in mid-flight by being flown away by a cargo plane, and Batman abducting Lao from a Chinese skyscraper by being flown away by a cargo plane. The final shots are nearly identical.
Even the way Bane and Dr Pavel fly away looks identical to Batman and Lao lol
As a Director, sometimes we just do things similarly. Its not always a callback. Example, Chris Nolan is constantly spinning the camera around the subject(s), it doesnt always mean something, he just likes it.

Tom Hardy's Bane is so underrated in this trilogy. This villain is up there with Heath Ledgers Joker. He did Bane so well, I don't think there will ever be a better version of this Bane. I don't think we ever gave Tom Hardy the respect he should have got for this role. He should've got at least an Oscar nomination for best character/actor. It seemed Batman played a secondary role to Bane. Also Bane was such a good villain for this trilogy.
Your saying as batman as a secondary character a good thing. IT SHOUKD BE THE DARK KNIGHT RISES, NOT THE BANE KNIGHT RISES
I wish they broke this movie into 2 and gave Bane the backstory he deserved.
Если бы Том был американцем он бы уже получил оскар. Но...
This bane is terrible. He's physically small and underwhelming despite everyone pretending otherwise, he talks like a joke, the back break scene looks terrible with clearly wires used as there's no physics to the weight. Everything is terrible.

It had always pained me that the DC cinematic universe didn't start with Nolan's Dark Knight Trilogy...
I like TDK trilogy being it's own single universe.
It shouldn't, there's now way to follow Nolan's movies. They're literally no way to do it better, so it's a poor choice for a begging of a "cinematic universe"
Factz
They could do that but they'd have to remove fantastical elements from the comics. Superman wouldn't have heat vision or ice breath and Flash would not have superspeed.
Shivu why
Kinda sad how Nolan and Levitt agreed on not making a Robin/Nightwing Movie, would've been cool tho.

"But damn, you gotta admit, this is one hell of a movie" God YES, it is. TDKR got unjustified tons of criticism, it's one of the best comic book movies ever made, and like Erik implies, if people weren't still obsessed with The Dark Knight grandeur when they went to watch its sequel (= if they accepted that TDKR wasn't meant to be a TDK 2, but a movie on its own, 'cause all three have their specific identities), maybe they would have recognized its qualities. #reevaluateTDKR
You're right, Standing on its own it is an epic and powerful movie and at a much grander scale

@Ross Coe For you
I'm so grateful for this breakdown. The Dark Knight gains its accolades because of Joker (that's usually the first and only thing that comes up), but there's A LOT more to The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, and so much thought went into giving each movie substance. The reason I appreciate The Dark Knight Rises so much is the underlying of economic inequality and social upheaval. It's not chaotic like the second movie; it's political and strategic. While it doesn't have the flair of a madman in makeup, The Dark Knight Rises considers the city as a whole: their authority and morality (both ended up being inverted). I'll stop there before I get carried away, because I love this movie. Although I love the trilogy, The Dark Knight Rises is smart and uplifting! Thanks again for this amazing breakdown.
Well said!
*The Dark Knight* > *The Dark Knight Rises* > *Batman Begins* > (empty space) > (more empty space) > all other DC movies Nolan creates works of art

That first Batman/Bane fight is one of my favorites. The cinematography throughout is just amazing. It's an out of shape, but determined Bruce meeting a very focused and dangerous Bane.

Lord of the Rings is superior.
Umm star wars OT?? But yeah, this trilogy is amazing
I agree.
@The Conspiratorist It's subjective.
If Nolan Zimmer pair got to do all the DC universe movies, then they would have blown away the avengers series.
And that’s a fact
If Nolan had as much input with DC as Kevin did with Marvel. Possibly... I like the darker more realistic tones to Nolans films. Not hating on the mcu.. Just prefer hero movies to be more realistic and conflicted.
Avengers is for toddlers.
Danson Saldanha yes and no. It would be able to compete but those movies had the head start.
Not really. This trilogy was brilliant, but i don't think Nolan would do a good job with the heroes who have super powers like Supes or Flash. Batman is a human with a lot of gadgets. Bane, Joker, Catwoman, two face, scarecrow are all humans. No one has any superpowers, which makes this movir good.
I like this video. Not only for Easter eggs and some real appreciation for the art that went into directing this.. but also cinematography. Amazing to understand why most imax 70mm shots are quieter 🍪

Dark Knight is my favorite movie of all time. But i did really enjoy The Dark Knight Rises. Yes I realize some of the downs with that movie. But there is a lot of unique tellings of different characters and comic storylines. They found a way to bring everything together and have a concussion to the main characters (Alfred, Gordon, Bruce) stories. Dark Knight Rises had an up hill battle for the start. It was always going to be compared to The Dark Knight. Which we all know was an unfair measuring stick. It was a great movie. And a great end to one of the best trilogies

Tom Hardy deserves credit for his incredible performance. Not his fault he followed Heath’s Joker. Hehe
I think it's kind of too late for a Joseph Gordon-Levitt Nightwing movie. If they had made it before the "Worlds of DC" was a thing, then it would work. But doing it now might be confusing for casual fans. I would like to see him in another superhero movie though. Since he's already been in The Dark Knight Rises, it would be nice to see him in the MCU. A lot of people have fan-casted him as Mr Fantastic. I don't really see him as a good fit for that role, but would love to see him play someone else; someone that he fits better as.
Masterwizard25
How about, instead of Mr. Fantastic. He'd be a perfect Mister Miracle for the eventual Justice League 2 with Darkseid.
Wow no... Mr fantastic has to be ripped athletic and play off as a huge dorky nerd. Also black.
I know they never mentioned venom but, he did have enhanced strength, he took out a portion of the pillar when he threw a punch at Batman. Also, Batman's mask leaves open the mouth and covers the rest of his head, opposite for Bane. And they also recorded the crowd at the football game for Bane's Rise theme. And did Bruce really need the brace because he's pretty healed without it later and in the pit.
The cops vs. League imagery truly hasn't aged well
When it was released I felt upset. There was so much hype it was impossible live up to it. Couple of years later and I loved it. More than that. If I need to choose which part to rewatch again, it will be Rises.
Great analysis of a movie that definitely gets too much unfair criticism because of its outstanding predecessor. No question in my mind that (1) The Dark Knight, (2) The Dark Knight Rises and (3) Batman Begins; though all three together form something greater than the sum of its parts. Nolan is a genius, and I would be thrilled for him to step in and save the DC universe.

I always felt the pain killer his mask fed him allowed him to push past the mental restrictions most people have. It numbs his pain receptors without dulling his senses. I respected it as a real world explanation of the Venom serum.
yeah it was a stellar way to throw in some kind of"drug" yet make it believable, if he is taking it to numb pain he can also train harder and become stronger as well, and being numb to half batmans blows definitely helps too haha..good twist on an awesome villian
