Everybody knows somebody who is a little basic. Or someone who just tries a little too hard at fitting in with whatever the latest trend is. It turns out that these folks tend to favor certain types of tattoos, much like how they love their PSLs, UGGs and White Claws. Our panel of artists are the style police for this video, letting you know the types of tattoos that may label you a Basic B.

Do you have any of these tattoos?
I have four roses 😅
Nope!
I have two blossoms
The matching butterfly with my ex girlfriend is my most basic.. and I’ve got a lot of the basics lol
Not sure if y’all are open for suggestions, but the way these artists were talking about who has what, I thought it would be fun to show them photos of people and be like does she have A. Lavender sprig B. Vageen tattoo or C. Bouquet of roses? Go through the bro examples, tribal, lion on hand Etc …..see if they can guess (aka stereotype LOL). Have a great weekend guys!
I'm really surprised nobody mentioned the "forest on the forearm" trend lmao
I live in Washington. That is one of the most common scene layouts, aside from the Space Needle or Pikes. 😂
Yes! Like lower half black blasted going into tree wrapped 100% every pnw guy
I was just about to comment this. I see this tattoo on dudes EVERYWHERE
I have 4 to 5 took from actual photos that clients have rejected ^o.+^
Even the character in the last of us has one lol
"if you want something temporary, find a significant other" broooo so messed
I feel kinda sorry for him
I'm dead 😭😭😭
I subscribed just cuz of that
It's pretty true tbh. These tattoo artists have a lot of experinece with couples getting matching tattoos and then having them come back to cover them cause they broke up. It's nothing new really. You hear many stories, so much do it's become a stereotype
Hahahaha
1:02 when she asks if she has a flower tattoo "calm down" im dead
Ikr😊
I have an entire leg of flower tatts and was considering getting lavender next, feeling attacked lmao.
@@thesoundofstatic9474 lol you get whatever YOU like, your the one that has to look at it everyday❤️
Just came back from my tattoo appointment....of flowers🥲🥲🤣🤣
@@thesoundofstatic9474 That sounds amazing though, I’m jealous. Not gonna run and do it tho, im planning flowers on my forearm :D
I thought for sure for the basic tattoos someone was gonna mention the dandelion seeds blowing away and transforming into birds.
lmao
I have dandelion seeds blowing away but not the birds 😭
Maybe it’s still in transition
Aren't these like soooo 2010 tumblr and already long gone?
I thought that was like 2010-2012 but maybe it’s still popular! Hahaha
Anatomically correct hearts is becoming basic. That said, I will still be getting one.
you already have one ;)
pfffffff that's nothing against my new deathly hallows tattoo, keep up mate, eg get a compass
My lion on the chest says hi!
me too lmao
Oh I just got an anatomical heart 😔
Are all these artists in NY? I need to find them all to see who will do a St Michael wearing a pocket watch tattoo, walking a lion that’s wearing a crown through a field of lilac… on my butt
Turning the basic into the fantastic I love it
With tiny magical triangles
@@rue-for-you-music No! Inside a tiny triangle😝
And the lion has to be half-geometric half-realistic with a dreamcatcher in the background
That actually sounds great!
“ Yeah man. I want to be like Pamela Anderson, but for Jesus.” that took me out 😂
Woman: “your cars getting towed” Jonboy: 👀👀👀 Woman: “farts” Jonboy: 👁 👄 👁
Okay but what’s the etiquette with farting when getting tattooed? I just got my first tattoo, which took about 2 hours on my hip. And I didn’t know what to do so I just held them all in.
@@TeaReesa26 Do what he said. Ask for a break. 😄 Don't have to say you're releasing the valve.
What about when you need to blow a fart and have to hold it in until there’s no one around and right when you left it to rip Someone always got to sneak up on you
These comments r getting oddly specific
I’m surprised they didn’t say anything about skulls lol
Skulls are kinda cool tho
don’t call me out so loud lmao
Skulls are always cool never basic
The skull with a cowboy hat is the ultimate basic bro who thinks he’s different t
I'd say skull is classic rather than basic. Basic is a trend, but classics are forever.
Omg, I fucking love that guy with glasses who likes every tattoo, even ”tramp stamps” and tribals. King ❤️❤️ Just seems like he loves his job
”I just wanted to be like pamela anderson but for jesus” 😭😭
Geometric tattoos are the new tribal just putting that out into the universe
completely agree and was surprised no one even mentioned it
I like them lol
Yea I think In the next 10-15 years those geometric tattoos are gonna be just as cringey as those old school 90s tribal tattoos lol
never before has anyone been so correct
@@garrygarcia5008 they're cringy? I think all tattoos are pretty (within a few exceptions which just deserve to be covered). Just because they're widely popular it doesn't mean they are any less beautiful
What about the anchors that say “I refuse to sink”
anchors are litterally made for one purpose and that is sinking. those tattoos make zero sense to me
@@Raaayyyyyyyyyy my point exactly 👌🏻
Every time I see one of these I become blinded by rage.
LOL
Oh god
Polynesian tattoos will always look amazing because they are an important part of wonderful cultures. I just hate it when people get those fake imitations without having any respect and understanding of the culture.
9/10 Polynesian tattoos are on American bros who don't have a clue what any of the stories featured in them are
Shut up
Yeah it's weird living in NZ where only Polynesians get them and then seeing Americans get them for the fun of it lol
@@djkjestrup who cares? It's art
@@kyletrump8025 That's the thing, it is not 'just an art'. To you it might look like a bunch of cool lines and triangles but every small shape, be it an arrow heads or shark teeth, has a different religious meaning. It even changes depending on the placement on the body. It is rather complicated to be honest.
Daamn not me watching this with my healing St. Michael tattoo 😭
They’re all scared to say the obviously basic tattoos because then they’ll lose the customers that want basic tattoos 😭😭😂
This idea is so funny to me. Like certain trends are “basic” but then theres traditional style that only ever contains a handful of things... Tattoo concepts in general are very repetitive. Its hard to be truly original. But each piece is a work of art specific to the artists and then passed on to be unique to the client. And that just makes sense. A tattoo isnt just the fact that its a rose or a lion. Its the use of color and how it blends with the skin, the quality, the unique style, the placement. All those things together make it one of the kind. But not any single aspect is unique.
this comment should be pinned
Yo, this is so beautifully said!! I do agree there. And some tattoos have a deeper meaning to them. Even if it's a "basic" tattoo, the emotional attachment the client has with it makes it unique on its own
The problem is, there are many that are referencing exact photos of others’ designs and straight up asking “when can I get this?”Even if it differs slightly, the design is inherently the same as many before it.
@@slashnagy6 I definitely agree that there is a right way and a wrong way to reference tattoos. A lot of time people dont really understand that, they just see something they like and want that specifically on them. Im not in support of that. But its also just true that something like a butterfly will appeal to a lot of people, and thats fine.
Finally someone said it lol. There are tattoo trends that I like and ones I don’t like, but I don’t think whether a design element is common or not determines whether it’s good. Most tattoos aren’t truly 100% original, people get inspiration from each other and from trends, and that’s ok as long as they love what they’re putting on their body.
I feel like floral tattoos are beautiful and ornament the human body. I wouldn't say it's basic but classic. Everyone should get one imo.
They are basic, but being basic isn't a bad thing. I got a few roses and flowers because i think they look nice.
Same. Btw I SOOOO want a long realistic fern leaf that's transforming into vertebrae along my spine - complete neck to pelvis piece. That would be epic
I would live for just being covered in flowers, no lie
I like how even though they’re naming specific designs, they’re being super nice about it.
In the UK its pocket watches with a rose thats been over done
And the lion head too
Horrible tattoos those. However old school traditional style roses will never go out of fashion. It's the realistic black and grey ones that look like shit afterwards. Like a cabbage.
Don’t forget the tight shirts and skinny jeans
@@SandeepSingh-zc5sh Nah. I have an entire realism sleeve with them for 3 years now. Looks like the day I came out of the shop. If you aren't a belligerent drunk, wear sunscreen, hydrate, and generally take care of yourself instead of being a complete lush any ink ages well.
@@chipchippahson No I just mean the whole pocket watch and rose thing tbh. It's so common and over done. There's no originality and I see people going in for their first tattoo even and it's one of those. No creativity whatsoever, they just want what everyone else seems to have. Plus they don't look great imo.
Basic Bro tattoo: I want two wolves fighting or one wolf with blue eye black and grey and then a forest silhouette in the background
I was actually thinking of doing something like that but it’s a black and grey white walker with blue eyes. I thought I was being original lol
@@mrfister825 I mean we don't see that many white walker tattoos that'd probably be pretty cool honestly. White walker that wolf LMAO 😂
Inside you are two wolves. One of them has a lavender tattoo and the other has a pocket watch with roses on his ass
@@JuliaMarieH BITCH IM DEAAAAD
2:35 "If you want something temporary, get a significant other - tattoos are a commitment." *Bro is my hero* 🤣🤣
Once again, I LOVE nonjudgmental tattoo artists
I think the trend of very minimalist/thin line tattoos mean that more people are getting tattoos. They just don't want to commit to a very big and present tattoo with a lot of ink, but try out a smaller one first.
truuueee
I wouldn’t say it’s minimalist but I have a fine line tattoo and honestly it’s just because I love the style. I know I want a bunch of tattoos and an committed to being tattooed, I just don’t like traditional style at all and prefer something more delicate looking.
I’m glad you finally called them out on their own tattoos.
I got a small Polynesian arm wrap on my forearm, after I turned 18. I wanted to study it before I got it, got it done by an artist who specialized in that style. got it done in hawaii where me and my family always go. I FULLY AGREE thats is kind of a "Bro-ey" type tattoo. but honestly I really love it, its beautiful.
People can think whatever they will, you did research and had an authentic tat done, unlike people who just get cheap knock offs
“There’s nothing the sun hasn’t seen” everything is basic at some point in time
Not everything. Trust, I’ve seen some shit
I have so many tattoos at this point I have just about one of everything. I've got something tacky I've got something lame I've got something cool I got something that's the same. I just freaking love tattoos The Good The bad and The ugly
bars
bars
bars
bars
sometimes I just get them to dip the needles in water and just run them around. Its like acupuncture, but metal.
I'm not a tattoo artist, but I can totally understand how trends can get pretty damn boring/annoying pretty damn fast, doing the same shit over that's a place in Hell man. These are artists ffs push them to their limits, give them the freedom to create, and you'll both come away from the experience pumped.
I did that for my thigh tat... I wanted the specific spider for Krizz kaliko and the lyric... I told her go wild after that. And it's honestly one of my most beautiful tattoos ever
I have my kids names, I guess that's kinda basic. But the amount of smiles I got from them when I got it done makes that sentiment just disappears.
Lol, the wolf pack ...they migrated. Lol!
I wanted one of those chandelier tattoos...
Do it. If the artist is good it will look great!
do it! it’s the sexiest type of tattoo a girl can get imo
get a butthole tattoo as well. and by that i mean a tattoo on your butthole, not a tattoo of a butthole.
@@arthurias7693 I'm not a big fan of tattoos on the private parts or anywhere close
I got one last year and I love it, in addition I don’t know anyone with this kind tattoo🤷🏼♀️ personally I think it isn’t one of the „standard“ places to get tattooed 🤷🏼♀️
"I wanna be like Pamela Anderson, but for Jesus" Same bro, same!😅
I'm surprised nobody said medusa 😄😄..that being said, my appointment is already made.
lmfaooo i wanted to do medusa next but nvm😂😭
I have one :-D but in full sea sleeve 🙂
Okay the tattoos I think are really basic are: roses, skulls and sacred hearts. Sorry that just my opinion 😂 (Basic isn’t always bad)
Great videos. I'd like to see a video about what makes a sleeve tattoo cool, great, and bad. Maybe what or what not to get for a sleeve tattoo. Keep up the great work!
As a Polynesian, seeing "tribal" tattoos mentioned here cracked me up, I was waiting for it lol.
Nobody brings up water color tattoos but I think they're already outdated. They were everywhere in the mid 2010s
I'm glad to see the multiple "disclaimers" at the beginning of the vid that sums up that people should get what they want. There's definitely some styles and imagery that are way more common than the people asking for them think
Just got a female face with 5 eyes on my arm. I can’t wait to finish my surrealism sleeve! I have a basic rose tat on my sternum but it’s well done and by a really cool artist. That’s what matters most to me is who is tattooing me and their background as an artist.
If you have any of these, just remember that basic doesn’t necessarily mean bad.
Sacred geometry is the new tribal and it is BEAUTIFUL can’t wait to get my sleeve
I have an infinity tattoo on my forearm and yes it is very basic HOWEVER I love it because my daughter picked it out and she has a matching one on her forearm. It's what she chose for her first tattoo and she wanted me to get the same thing at the same time she did❤
@@jaffaorrori yeah I love it because it's meaningful. Even though it's the most basic tattoo I have on me
I love my infinity tattoo and it has two paw prints and heart in it for my two pups that died. I don’t care if it’s “basic” gosh people can be way judgemental
Nobody said tree/forest band around wrist or ankle
Very good point.
I know 5 guys that have those, and i am not a social person 😂
That was a good one! Keep them coming!
I want to get lots of tattoos...i have been told my skin takes ink like butter...
Do it!
Same! My artists love me, well, my skin. Lol.
Same one of my artists said my skin is “the butters” 😆
Gosh I’m jealous but I know why, I smoke :(
Get a different artist. No skin in un inkable
Pretty much most everything is basic. Roses, butterflies, daggers, text, hearts the list goes on.
The four horsemen of basic tattoos: Dreamcatchers on suburban white girls That forward-facing lion head (bonus if it has a crown) Clocks (bonus if it has roses with it) Deathly hallows
Why is the editing on this channel so fucking good lmao
I have flowers but I wouldn't think they are common type of flowers typically done as tattoos. A red spider lily, and a Japanese morning glory (they are a shade of blue/purple)
Another type of video I'd like to see would be about what types of tattoos are good and bad for specific professions or occupations. For example, what tattoos a teacher or doctor could and/or shouldn't get. Keep up the great work!
i’d say swastikas are out for all professions
I imagine anything scary/horror would be out of bounds for teachers of young children unless it was FNAF or something......
I work in mental healthcare in Holland. Over here for example tattoos are pretty much accepted while working in healthcare aslong as they aren't on your neck of face. But if you're talking specific tattoos that you shouldn't get when you're in healthcare it's skulls or any other thing that represents death like for example the Grim Reaper. Pretty much anything else goes
@@MisterSaintJosh I cannot fathom why that wouldn't be okay😂
@@arianekelly2633 Easy. While working in Healhcare you might be working with people whose life are at stake. Those people really don't wanna see a bunch of skulls on your body or they might think you're fascinated about death and they aren't safe in your care. When you're working in mental healthcare you might be working with people who have major issues or for example are suicidal. They really don't need to see a bunch of skulls on your body too or it might bring them too ideas or push them over the edge Just a few examples even tho i could name many more
I love Jon Mesa's Milli Vanilli look this season! Turned 30 this year and I'm planning on finally getting some tattoos, I just need to decide what I want to start with
My suggestion is to get a Drake tattoo on your forehead. That can never fail
The most basic bro tat is the barbed wire on the arm!!
this video made me feel so much better about my first choice im getting in a couple days.
Ahahahahahahaha there's so many good comment in this video!!! 😂🤣😂 A++++++ easily in my top 10 Inked videos of all time so far. Every time a style gets criticized, I immediately think of a guest that likes it or is currently doing it as their main bread and butter. Would've been awesome to have Ryan Ashley Malarkey comment on underboob chandelier tatts lol.
Tribal is not a “phase”... it should be designed per person, not copy and paste. Yeah a dolphin on the hip can be a flash tatt, or a bow on the back of the thigh
the guy with the 'my mom's gonna kill me tattoo' t-shirt. that's exactly what happens every time my mom see's mine.
I like what he was saying about bringing back tribal but like not necessarily American tribal because for me I wouldn't feel right getting that but i'm looking to get some Pictish celtic tattoos, like the crescent and V.
I’ve been waiting for this video!! Lol basic tattoos are cool buh the thought of another person having the same tattoo as you kind of sucks for me xD
Looking to get my "wanderlust" tattoo covered up before I even saw this video 😂 it was a rough time in my life, the only bad tattoo I have. It's done well...but basic.
That intro was bomb🔥🤣.
Me wanting more floral 😶
Yeah I already have my floral planned lol I've wanted it for years
Floral is one of the "basic" tats that is never bad. Just don't get a copy/paste of someone else's.
I love floral! I want more too
Florals look swesome, I they they’re a good classic. There so many different type and styles to suit anyone
I got a st. Micheal but I've met so many dudes with the same design I decided to get it Japanese style. Instead of Micheal its a samurai and instead of Devil its oni. Little different but I love it
Not me sitting here hoping they don’t name a tattoo i have on me… luckily i was safe this time around, i guess we’ll see if i luck out next video also!
Yo here where I live EVERY girl has a butterfly tatt 😂 that being said....my new tatt has butterflies in it but I love it! I just hate the whole butterflies down the forearm type of tatts or butterflies with the “3D effect” or shadowing.
I need this in my life
When they were talking about lions I had to chuckle. I have an antique animal's head doorknocker chestpiece & specifically did NOT want a lions head doorknocker bc I felt the lion is so overdone in tattooing. (I got a bear.)
jon’s a legend
would appreciate you guys having more Traditional Tattoo artists on here. You've had Myke Chambers but not many others. If you're in NYC you should do interviews with people like Henbo and Kiku
I feel so called out. I just got my first tattoo and it was lavender sprigs
I have the outline of FL on my right outer calf and I think that's amazing.
I literally gasped when she said deathly hallows. That’s a tattoo i want.
I feel like it's not a sign of being basic but more of a sign that you belong to the HP club 😄
I've got a forest and cabin around my thigh. I was 100% sure that it would be in this video in some form, mostly the forearm thing. I never did the pinterest thing, and drew 2/3 of my tattoos and had the artist tweak them for the stencil, and I SWEAR, there are 38459463939276638 of almost the same tattoo, sometimes in the same spots.
very happy to hear the response for butterflies bc i have a ton
I have a lot of American traditional tattoos, I like bold color, bright red. Meanings roses, lions, crosses, and anything that brings out bright bold color. I’m getting my Celtic clans emblem, an hourglass to represent time, a Roman clock because I collect clocks. And a cross to represent walking with Jesus. As I see it, I’m basic but I put meaning behind every piece and love in every aspect of my tattoos
This is why I wanted to design my own tattoos. Lol not that the basic ones aren’t cool
Same, that's why I vowed to only do custom designs for my patchwork leg sleeve. That's also why I'm upset when I go to an artist and they give me the most basic design for my idea. I wanna be unique, dammit lol.
I'm always blown away how cute that dog is.
Planning to get a St. Michael on my back. Hahaha.
The “we the people” tattoo 😭🤣
That’s basically a cop tattoo now.
4:57 really appreciate the reference
The pocket watch/maps/compass/roses/statues/lions/crowns/angels/forest skylines is aalllll basic lol and it’s not just in New York. California has sooo many bros with them.
4:24 Love the frenchie!!
Lol but my underboob dreamcatcher with wings & chandelier tattoo is fire though 😂😂😂
Me getting butterflies soon with flowers 😭 but they are going to be coloured in my cancer ribbon colour. Because 1 year cancer free 😌
Congratulations!
Beautiful idea! So happy for you!
Hope you know it doesn't matter if it's "basic" or what, all that matters is that it's something you want (whether it has meaning or you just think it's pretty) and that you pick a tattoo artist who's good and not stuck-up! Goes for everyone in the comment section who has or wants something "basic". Y'all do you. If a tattoo artist acts prissy, then leave because no one wants that negativity. Congrats on being cancer free, hope it stays tf away forever!
Congratulations!!
Y’all forgot about the silhouette forest on the forearm!
I didn't know lavender tattoos were that common 😅😅
In WA right now you see a lot of trees and trees that start as a musical instruments then the neck turns into a tree.
Love my Quetzalcoatl and Mictlantecuhtli half sleeve 😎
I wanted a Quetzal tattoo on my chest until I realized how popular they are 😭
@@guerillo4047 I like mine cuz I took inspiration from snake and skull tattoos (my skull being Mictlantecuhtli) and the snake obviously Quetzalcoatl, wrapped around him and I had the artist add an owl headdress on the skull
These videos make fullblown full coverage weirdos like me feel even better about it. :D
I want to be like Pamela Anderson but like Jesus dude that tickled the sh*t out of me 🤣😂🤣 ✌️💚🤘
The more I watch this channel, the more I relies that every tattoo isn't okay haha
I got a tribal tattoo (it’s not finished) BUT, it’s aztec based and I love it :)
my butterfly tattoo just chillin...
Eh, I think butterflies are becoming more classic than basic. Like roses.
3:35 Pocket Watches and Roses 3:50 Everybody sees themselves as a lion
"Your cars getting towed" proceeds to break wind. 😆🤣😂
Intro shot 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Sometimes I have a tattoo idea and then when I think about it longer I realize that it's really basic and then I don't want it anymore 😅
Somebody needs to mention every Aussie having a southern cross tattoo...
Here I am wanting to get lavender springs tattooed on me, thinking it will be unique 😅
🤣🤣Yo!! What’s the hashtag for the Virginia tatt dude?
