    • @@jamiemagdeleyns9152 if you do the same mods to a land rover it will again dumpster it off road. I've done a bit of reading and the old tdi engines are bulletproof. As for the old rover v8, the main reason behind blown head gaskets is overheating, which means that a thermostat opening at lower temperature and a gauge that tells you exactly what temp you have will mean you probably won't have that issue until you do around 100k miles. I've been looking at old discovery models in particular and i rarely find ones with under 200k miles. My discovery is also about to reach that point, and it was sat rotting in a field for 10 years.

Also not sure how they went about tire selection. Some vehicles didn’t have the same tire they came with from the factory on top of most of them being street tires. Tire selection and size has more of an effect on outcomes than anything.

    • @@CptAngelKGaming I disagree. If you want to do that, a fair comparison, you shouldn’t compare vehicles from different years/decades… comparing all new , let’s say produced after 2015, cars, and similar things with cars from the mid 2000s and mid 90s. That would be a fair comparison. And no, there are indeed landcruisers from that era that had diff lockers installed already. • Tiguan ain't really for offroading. The touareg however is a different beast.

      @dahotrod1533@dahotrod1533 Жыл бұрын
  • Many 4WDs can be drastically improved offroad by simply adding lockers and/or a winch. Many AWDs don't have the option of adding lockers, and no winchmounts may be available. Lunchbox lockers for something like a Jeep TJ are just a few hundred $$ per axle diff. 4Low also allows more of the engine's torque to get to the axles. The best option seems to be a Selectrac Wrangler Rubicon...AWD for snowy roads, and 4Low w/lockers and articulating solid axles for offroad. These TCS AWDs that are covered in plastic just seem like a bad idea for technical offroading. 'Seems you could easily destroy your brakes, tires, trans, bumpers, etc. I have skids, AT tires, and a winch for my 2016 AWD Crosstrek. I don't expect it to be a decent offroader until rockers and a rear locker are installed. Still, I don't know that my center diff will always clamp well enough to take full advantage of the rear locker, and steel bumpers are needed to avoid crunch damage.

  • Can you try comparing a Subaru with a CVT and one with the old E-5AT or 4AT? The way I see it, Subaru's AWD system heavily relies on wheelspin to figure out where power should be best sent. Based on most offroading tests on the new Subies with the CVT, it's as if the transmission is just intentionally stalling to protect itself. Subarus of old are famous for consistently spinning the wheels in all conditions. In fact, most Subarus who are caught pulling cars and trucks out of bad situations are the old ones with either a manual or the old AT. In short, Subaru's CVT is just crap for offroading...

    @BenTLador@BenTLador2 жыл бұрын
    • But yet the so called real 4WD with lockable differential Pajero did not do any better than an outback anyway… That may not represent much, but 4wd ?subaru AWD? which better? I cannot see one better than the other one anyway… PS :21 Subaru XV(crosstrek) driver, the 21 model Xmode is more sensitive and responsive, our car park is gravel losses ground with slope in it, after turn on the xmode, even every slightly wheel spinning had triggered the xmode to brake that wheel, even before we notice that wheel has any spinning..

      @MarsPHLO@MarsPHLO2 жыл бұрын
    • @@MarsPHLO the Pajero only had a center locking differential, meaning that it only locks the power split between the axles and it doesn't have traction control to aid the open diff axles. Subaru's X Mode is basically just advanced traction control which in some scenarios can act as an e-differential. It is in no way a complete alternative to a locking differential. The only limiting factor is the CVT for these modern subies. I have 2 of them ('14 FXT & '20 XV) and both struggle on slippery inclines due to the CVT cutting power. Believe me, I tried disabling VDC with X Mode enabled, the CVT just hates wheelspin.

    • Nope the old one have the real rally 4x4 systeem. The later not for more smoot driving . Transmissie do not mother if its a cvt . The cvt on my Honda hr-v Will not stop if i push the car to its max . Do not need to the cvt is beult for IT with a lock systeem for low Gear .
