  • One that wasn't mentioned here is when a dog opens its mouth and puts its jaw lightly around your wrist for a few seconds, but never bites down. My dogs do this all the time as either a sign of love, or that they're getting excited and want to play. They've never bitten down, not ever.

    • @@diapricea4888 I’m so sorry. My Hiro was that dog for me too, though he only had 1 eye due to glaucoma at an early age. Saved his right eye through continuous treatment. For the next 10 years he operated like nothing had happened; it didn’t slow him down one bit. I spent tens of thousands of dollars on that dog, and I’ve have spent it all if it could have helped in the end. It’s going to hurt for a very long time, but it’s better to hurt having known their love, than to let it fade from memory.

    • @@I_SuperHiro_I thank you for saying that, better to have known my little Pepa than never to have known true love. I'm crying now, she was the greatest joy in my life, and it's been a tough one. I am looking forward to seeing her again. I enjoyed hearing your loving words about Hiro. My son, 46, died suddenly unexpectedly 7/7/23. He had moved into his grandparents house an hour south, was starting a new life there. Around 4 months before he died i told him he needed a dog, now we have his 85lb Mastiff, Buddi, he is gentle as a kitten. My Pepa was with me grieving with me when my son died. She weighed about 15 lbs. She welcomed Buddi, it was a joy the watch them play. Buddi was left again to grieve. I understand about the $$$, I'd give every $ in my bank account to have her back. The vet charged over $2,000 to tell us she was dead, when we walked in with her. I can't be in the same room with him (ex husband) now. She was my everything. A rat terrior, my protector.

  • I just put my dog down last Friday. He had come down with acute liver failure. I noticed jaundice in his eyes and gums the Thursday before hand. Took him to the vet that Friday, they ran labs, and his liver enzymes were through the roof. I made the decision to let him rest and by 12:00 that afternoon he was gone. What I thought would be an easy fix turned into losing the best friend I had ever had. He was 13 and had a dang good life and I will miss and love him everyday. He would sleep in my laundry, lay on my chest, give his version of kisses which was sniff sniff sniff, hard exhale, and he would hold guard outside the bathroom as I showered. He was my boy for 11 years of the 13 in his life and I’m thankful for him.

  • When my dogs have a hurt paw or leg, they know I feel around their injured body to see what is going on. One time I was feeling around my dog's paw cause she was really favoring it. When I evidently touched the injured spot, my dog started to yelp really loud and took her mouth and clamped her teeth, very lightly on my arm as she was yelping. Her mouth lightly vibrated on my skin as I instantly pulled back. Being in pain, she could have bit down onto my arm to relieve her pain, but did not. I had to pet her alot just to reassure her. I was touched by my dogs actions and of course there is that saying 'dont bite the hand that feeds you'.

  • Here's something worth noting. When I was a young teenager we adapted a dog. We were inseparable. I loved the dog and he loved me. We sort of lived for each other. He was loving with everyone in my family, but I was his human. As time passed and I grew up, I spent less time at home. A job, dating and hanging out with friends kept me away from home. I spent less time with the dog. We grew apart. The dog wasn't as close to me. I could see he grew depressed. I always loved the dog but as I got into my twenties I had to spend more time with school and work. Out relationship was never like it was when we were younger. Sadly, I came home from work one day and he had died during the day while I was out. He had a heart attack. My heart was broken. He was such a good boy. I still think about him, almost daily and I'm nearing 70. I think the worst time to adopt a dog and have a dog imprint on one person is in the teen years. Once you grow up there's less time for your friend because life hets more complex. And I 've heard this said - "No matter how much you love your dog, they love you more!" I really loved my dog. But I was growing up and that changed everything. Keep that in mind if you plan on adopting a dog. Timing is everything!! I hope I see my old friend in Heaven and he forgives me. I know he has to be there.🙏✝️❤️❤️

She was writhing in pain so we took her to an out of town vet, now are due to have both hip replaced at ~$7000 a piece. So many preventative things we could have done to help with the dysplasia and arthritis that are so common in GSD’s. Hope this message finds you and your “baby” well.

I mean yeah for $ wise but she's worth more than that! But it's not in her family tree either by the AKA, so? But thats strange that you woukd soend that much $ on a Gsd and not know about dysplasia? That's horrible nobody informed you!!! Thats the most common thing? And yes never let them sleep on a hard surface for along time! That helps alot!! Yeah but thanks so much for concern!! 👍

The other where she suddenly turns mean, guards her food or our shoes w/e item and doesnt want anything to do with you. You cant recognize her like she turns into a different dog. We noticed this shortly after we rescued her as a ~4 month old puppy. Went to the vet and they are unsure about how she got it but we do know its caused by anxiety. The last thing we could try is a dog behavior expert but theyre expensive and even then this behavior of the Hyde personality could still exist or not be removed at all. Even though i still love her 😊

  • My (mostly rescued) pack checks in with me when they're playing in the pen. I keep our front door open in nice weather because it opens into a big dog pen, so they rush out to play and come back, rattle the baby gate so I come to open it. The three youngest ones come in long enough to be petted and take off again. The one in my thumbnail pic is the one who will come in to stay on the couch where she can see me and look out the gate at the pups. My formerly semi-feral dog stays where she can see me at all times if I'm in the house. She won't even go out in the pen without me, so I have to take her on a leash around our 5 acres several times a day. My Jack checks in, sticking his muzzle up by my nose and mouth. If he senses I am stressed, he leans against me as hard as he can. Got him as a 3 month old pup after 2 littermates passed on a day apart. I couldn't stand the thought of buzzards eating his corpse because he was kept outside, so I took him home to pass on, knowing love and a home for a night. Expected to find him passed in the bed next to me in the morning, but no... His second birthday is coming up next month.

  • When i was sick from a very severe respitory infection my dog would not leave my side for days. I went to bed on a friday and did not wake up again till tuesday...he wouldnt eat unless his food and water bowl was in reach of where I was laying. He also skipped walks to the bathroom unless he absolutely had to go.

  • Yeah, check on all those boxes lol, especially the "Checking back on you" one, she walks 10 steps and looks back to see if I'm there, she NEVER approaches anyone before looking at me to see if I approve or not and even though she is a cuddlebug and loves people petting her, she will always let them pet her for a bit, then run to me and lick me, then run back and get more petting done lol There is 0 separation anxiety though(When my gran died I was away for 2 days due to complications, I left her a large food dispenser and water in a large bucket, thought the house would be destroyed, she didn't, she pooed on the bathroom and didn't even touch her food, and when I came back she was sleeping in the bed, when I laid down is when she went crazy, ran all over the bed, then came down and laid besides me :) And yeah, staring into my soul is another big one, when she wants me to stop playing videogames and play with her, she sits in front of me and stares, and then she gets a big hug and some playtime :P

  • My dog is a destructor. Except coming in to sleep with me at regular intervals during the night- he does nothing else. He fights with me- destroys my things and doesn’t want to leave me either. Been trained for 4 months but has completely failed his trainer as well

    • @@diapricea4888 I'm sure. I lost a dog almost 40 years ago. I've had other dogs since then, but it wasn't until I got Callie that I felt the same connection. In fact, this one is better. She's gotten me through the deaths of both of my parents and my husband. And she's been here for me as I recover from heart surgery.

    • It’s worth it things die but knowing you gave it the best life it could and forming a real loving bond is by far one of the best feelings on the planet don’t miss out on that love and happiness out of fear of loss on the end the moments and time you spent together make everything worth it and although it’s very hard to loss them that time you spent and how much it meant to both of you makes it able to delt with it better to have loved a dog then never of because your scared of losing it if u can u should get a dog you won’t regret it

    • My grandsons, age 15 and 18, just got a dog. Finally. My daughter's husband didn't want another dog because my daughter grieved horribly when their first dog died. That was 12years ago. Not fair he he didn't allow another dog until now. But what can I say?
