Hi, and welcome back to “Like to Style” tutorials.
If you’ve never cut your own hair before, or if you’re a beginner, then this video is for you. In this short demonstration I will show, step by step, how to cut your own hair with clippers in the simplest way possible. So by the end of this video you will know all the basic techniques that can be applied to practically every haircut.
I have looked all over KZhead for a nice concise clear video on self hair cutting and yours is definitely the best one. It really helps the way you use stop and slow motion in order to make clear the techniques that you're using throughout the haircut. Thank you very much for your time and effort that you put into your videos........ and for sharing them!
Glad it was helpful!
Yes.. This is the best one! I agreed.
Alex also has a good channel.

I started doing this 5 years ago when I was dissapointed from the barber. Now I have my own little shop where friends and collegues comes to cut their hair. I started to save money, but ended up making extra money from my skills
Lol got disappointed with the barber too today as in my current village where i am at present due to lockdown, doesn't have good barbers n ended up here Searching why not do it myself
My barber is also shit. I am seeing this to start cutting by myself 🥲
same I can do it by myself for sure but wish I knew how to layer hmmmmm
I hope you are licensed lol
Thats really cool!
I've been cutting my hair for the past six months myself and I watch this video every time I cut my hair. Thank you for the simplified and detailed video.
Looking clean my man!
These are the comments I need to see more of. Good on you bro.
How does it turn out?
he got so many chicks nowdays he has to be aware of.... @@DamanKingBear Can you finish my open-ended story? I'm kind of curious 😂
I followed each and every step. Now I ain't going out for the next two weeks
😂😂😂
same here, i had to initiated plan B
🤣🤣🤣🤣
I made mistakes 3 or 4 times and now I have learned better from mistakes. I'm happy now
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Been cutting my own hair for 11 years. I have thick hair so is not hard to cut. I got tired of not getting a good haircut every time I went to get it cut. So I took this task in my own hands. Bought a hair cutter and started cutting. After a few ooopss...trail and error sessions I perfected it. Use a hand mirror with a wall mirror for the back...and sides etc. Now takes me 15 min. Saving a lot of money...and can cut whenever I want no appointments etc. Came in handy with Covid because I already was taking care of this. At some point I might go back to a professional because sometimes being pampered is a good thing. But for now...all good. Good video.
Great tutorial. I use an old belt as a guide to cut the line at the back of my neck. I wrap the belt around my head, holding the buckle and end at my forehead. I line it up by wrapping the belt over my ears, with the bottom edge just above my earlobes. This gives me a rounded line around the back of my neck. I then take clippers without a guard and slip it off the edge of the belt all the way around my neck scraping down toward my shoulders and back. It never fails. Been shearing myself since 1984 :)
Awesome! Thank u
It seems great. Please make us a video. Thanks.
@@gladysma308 Yes we need a video of this method. Thanks in advance.
👍
Bro this is genius, thanks for the tip!
I messed it up boys, time to go bald
😂😂😂
time to hit the gym too and change your life
Sorry bro 😅😅😅😅
Hahahaha this made me piss 😂
Good tutorial. Started self cutting my hair during the pandemic, as many did. It was awkward at first, but gets easier with practice and takes about an hour (I'm slow). Now I actually enjoy the freedom of being able to do it myself!
Same I started cutting my own hair during pandemic and now I do it all the time lol.
I do the same and tip myself with a case of beer , only don't drink before or end up shaving it all off as I have done
Me too, first time was awful but subsequent it improve 😅
I started during the pandemic too. I thought what the heck, if I mess up I can just go over everything with the same guard. I have saved a lot of money, I have gotten pretty good at it and I don't have to wait in line. And I keep the tip!
You still doing it yourself?
I started cutting my own hair when COVID 19 hit, haven't stopped. the back is a little tricky. It took me 4 hours over 2 days the first time, now about 45 minutes.
THANK YOU for being succinct and precise. I'm obviously going to have to spent all week watching this clip and near the end of the week also take notes. I also anticipate it taking an hour or two as opposed to the twenty minutes or less in the barbers. But I anticipate a better cut than you'd get in most local barbers.
Love the video definitely gonna try it out. Im tired of going to my barber and having to wait forever just for some awkward conversation
Thank you for this clear, easy to follow guide. I'm still not sure if I'll be able to do it, but I feel a lot more confident about it now. Your video makes the whole process easily understandable. Great job!
Thank you
The outcome of the haircut is what i definitely want for my hair. Not too faded and not too long, thank youuu.
You're so welcome!
Haircuts have literally tripled in price in 3 years where I live so I decide it was time to learn.
This same reason has also compelled me to think likewise.
Best haircut tutor I've came across so far. Detailed and easy to practice, with good guidelines while keeping the video fairy short. Bravo👏 i don't need a haircut barber anymore, I've become so good at it! Thanks man.
I just finished cut my hair after watching your clip. Very satisfied with the result. Thank you for great tutorial.
Great job!
It came out ok on the first try????
Really helpful! I can finally cut my own hair, and am finally happy with results. I've been trying to cut my own hair for ages, but this was the final cherry on top to get the back and front-top "perfect" now. The only difference I do here is use one number higher for all razor brushes (2 to 5), so I don't "shave" hair so much", and I only "shave" the back, up to back of ear, not sides, I use uneven tapering brushes that came with my razor for the sides. I'm finally happy baby! You're an angel ;-)
Amazing! Well done!
This is an extremely helpful video. Like many others I started cutting my hair during COVID. I learned some new things here like how to fade and when to keep my hair dry or wet during the cutting process. I use the same clippers as shown in video. I also use a Self Cut 3 way mirror and a smaller set of clippers to no my neckline with something I found in Amazon that I wear around my head as a neck line guide.
High Quality video, you can tell he went above and beyond and wants to make sure the viewer understands each step exactly
This is the clearest, both sound and instructions self hair cut video I have seen. Thumbs up!
Glad it was helpful!
Hello! I'm new to your channel and I can assure you that for those of us stuck at home due to lockdown, you great tips and clear instructions on how to help ourselves, sure have helped immensely, and personally, I can't thank you enough! Keep your helpful videos coming!!!
What country are you in that there’s still “lockdowns” going on? 💀
This is by far the best video for self-haircuts I’ve found on KZhead. I was spending about $50 for haircut+beard trim in California every month, and started to wonder if I could just do it myself. Here I am 4 months later and haven’t been back to the barber since. My major advice is stick with it. There is a learning curve the first 1 to 2 times can be tricky but it gets much easier every time you cut your hair as you get a feel for how to do it. Be patient and use longer clippers to start with if you need to. You’ll save so much money, and can clean up your hair anytime you want!
I have been using this video for guidance every time I cut my hair. Best self haircut tutorial from all the others I have view.
I've cut my hair with clippers several times during the lockdown. Your video is hands down the best. I've only worked on the sides, back, sideburns. I still haven't tried your method for the top because I previously cut my top too short. The top I'd say is the most challenging for me. If I'm not able to do it well for the top using your method, then I may just have to buy a flowbee.
Glad it was helpful! Yes the top part it's not easy. Better if you do it slowly, minding your fingers. Thank you for watching.
If you inadvertently went too short on top does it matter? It will grow back my G
The most easiest and understandable tutorial for beginner.
Glad you like it
Thank you so so much, my husband needed a haircut and I used this video to help me learn what to do and it worked perfectly! I was nervous about cutting someone else's hair, but your clear steps and the great tutorial made me feel confident and I actually did a great job thanks to you! Husband is happy and so am I! Thank you!
Its a complete self made haircut with the clipper, yet looks so professional. I could see he cut the new sections while his fingers held the sections in the same height as earlier sections. I have learnt few skills theoretically in this video. Thank you for posting the video. Cheers..
OMG EASIEST MOST QUICKEST WAY TO CUT YOUR OWN HAIR AND IT LOOKS AMAZING !!!!!! THANK YOU SO MUCH !!
Glad you liked it!!
I started cutting my own hair at 17 since my grandparents wouldn't let me get a haircut, saying I would look like a Dyke. Well, turns out I am one! I'm 22 now and going to the barber is a fuss sometimes, plus it's getting more and more expensive. Your video is a lifesaver, thank you so much.
Ew
I'm so sorry that you had to face homophobic prejudice from your grandparents. I bet your hair looks awesome and if it better reflects who you are, what kind of style you like and makes you happy that's all that matters!
In our country, women do not cut their hair at all.
pog, same!!
This is the best channel for cutting your own hair as a man, I watch these videos monthly
Thanks for the video! Nice to know that trimming dry hair is not the only right thing, and wetting the hair also gives you control. It seems that wetting the hair allows better manipulation rather than ease of cutting! Using the scissors brings the truth to the front! Good advice! Having a helper to trim the back of the head is a blessing, as often only one eye could be fully functional or could have suffered some damage! Otherwise training yourself with mirrors could simplify things! One of the best videos on this subject but the synthetic voice could drive viewers away!
Good tutorial. I don't have long hair on top so it's easy to keep it short and neat by using the #4 across the top, then using the #3 on the sides and #2 and razor guard for the ends.
Thanks for the tips. I learned it first time in my life. Thanks again
Glad you like it
Good video. The tip about the guideline really helped. I am right-handed and it is nice to see that I don't have to learn to cut with my left hand. Thank you.
Thank you so much, i was so scared to do this by myself but i am very satisfied with the results.
Just cut my hair off this video for the 1st time and it turned out great. Just made $40/hour since that’s how much it would have cost at the barber shop. Thank you!
I cut my own hair since i was 15 years old.🙃 only bcoz I don’t trust anyone else with my hair style except me. Then it became just something I do
Same here bro 😎
@Sukon Med Same here too, since I was 15 year old...😁👍
You guys probably put pots or bowls over your head nd cut your shit
I also do the same 🙂 and I want to repeat it again coz I haven't time to go for salon
You are Super 😻
The best video i have seen so far for self trimming of hair for men. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful!
One of the best videos on that topic. It was hard to found one.
The best part of cutting yourself hair is that you can do it actually how you imagined. In hair salons rarely they could do it. I am cutting my hair for last 20 years
Same here, I cut my own hair since 2006 but my style is a flat top.
This is the best guide i ever seen so far, thanks for sharing :)
Glad it was helpful!
Ja.ja.ja
great tutorial! well done technically and visually!
One of the best self haircut videos I've seen, thanks.
Thank you! Very helpful tutorial. I’m ready to cut my husband’s hair now.
Good luck!! Please check my other videos. Thank you kzhead.info/sun/eMpyiZyCjHSDmq8/bejne.html
This just popped up on my KZhead feed and I had to chuckle. Been doing this for the last 25 years or so (turning 63 next month). Never new instructions were needed …….. Barber shears with a single #4 spacer attachment and that’s it for me. All I own are basic “beach bum” clothes, no tattoos, no rings etc. so I definitely won’t be winning any “looking good” contests! On the other hand I do spend lots of time making sure I remain under 13% body fat (6’ and 168#) with cardio, way better eating habits, and healthy hobbies like the one in my Avatar🤪
Thank you for being good this a big help. I have been using one number for all, i did not know what blending was until now Thank you again.
I love the way you speak english not to fast and you really nurtured me
Started self hair dressing after watching this video, professional hair dressers having shops will be loosing business & cursing both of us
Watching from Thailand. Thank you so much for the tutorial.
Thanks for watching!
Best tutorial ever for self cutting your own hair.
This is the best self-cut video on KZhead!
The first and second time cutting your own hair is a little tricky but after the third time it's pretty easy. Hair grows back pretty quickly and once you learn to cut your own hair that's $25.00 you save every month. The key is to start the the largest guides you are comfortable with first and as you get get more confident with time you can switch over to smaller and shorter trimmer guides. I also use a Con-Air Even Cut for the top of my head at the back. For a $50.00 total investment I've learned to easily cut my own hair and saved over $300.00 a year on haircuts. It's really pretty simple and even if you do mess up, no one actually cares since you end up growing the hair back in 2 ~ 3 weeks. It's much easier to let a spouse cut your hair but still a haircut is still very very doable by oneself. Just relax and do a little at a time then as you get better over time you can eventually give yourself a haircut in 10 minutes flat. That's for us men anyways..... Women are a whole new bag of worms when it comes to haircut. Some women really think their hair is a really big deal, whereas other women it just a matter of trimming the bangs and shortening the overall length.....
Two years later and the average haircut at a regular ol greatclips near me is $35 (‘before tip’ lol), and that’s for a pretty simple buzz cut! No way I’m paying that anymore.
What is the average salary in your country? In our country, a haircut costs $5.
It is very helpful during pandemic situation, thanks a lot
Glad it was helpful!
I started to cut my hair 4 yrs ago, I wasn't learn from you back then. But your video is one of the best.
Great video! My haircut turned out pretty nice 👍
I am cutting my hair for 3 years now and I'm really surprised when I watched this video because that is the same method I am doing.😃 But yours is more cleaner look than mine because I never thought that I'm using my razors like 4 to 1 😅 Nice tutorial man.👊🏼😁
That's awesome! 🙂
During Covid I was forced to cut my own hair at home using a similar hair cutting kit. Good tips here for my next cut. Cheers
Thank you for watching
Ready for the next lockdown
I just tried. Pretty hard doing it first time
Thanks to Covid and now I can self hair cut like a pro. No more running to the barbershop.
This is the best self hair cut video! Thanks a lot^^😊
This us a good instructional video for someone wanting to cut another person’s hair! During lockdown, my wife started cutting my hair. We bought some fancy Philips clippers which cost us £75 and they were soon vfm since she did my son’s hair too. She’s quite arty and did a great job, but alas, she’s put the clippers away now. Your video would have been great to give her the confidence to start. As for your subject in the video…..I think he needs tidying up by a hairdresser.
tried to cut my own hair, for the first time. This video taught me everything that i needed to knoq. friend helped me with the back a bit, but other than that it worked perfectly fine! 10/10 would recommend.
I find it easier using clippers when cutting the top. Still waiting for a good clipper over comb video from you :)
Noted!
The tutorial we need in this weird times
I search this tutorial for years! Thanks a lot! 🙏
Glad to hear that!
Awesome technique, I had all my questions answered
Are those 1,2,3,4 standard sizes? or do they vary from product to product. mine has millimeters on it.
Thank you soooo much, I was searching for such videos for my kids, this is a great help, regards and I wish you the best.
Thank you
You are the best creator I have found on KZhead to do the self haircut mate 🎉😊I’m doing it now 🙏🏼
Just cut my own hair for the first time ever! using this video helped tremendously & it turned out sharp! No more barbers for me! I want to learn styles & cut my friend’s hair too! Thanks!
One of the best explain to cut a hair for that short video and he's my hero! Looks like easy but it is not true...
I love this video. It help me so much. Very clear instructions 👌
Thank you
The only useful self-haircut video. Thank you.
Been cutting my own hair for many years and I had never heard of the “point cutting technique” for bangs. I style my bangs pushed to the side, so the abrupt, straight line wasn’t a huge deal, but in a pool or out of the shower it always bothered me how my wet hair looked with that straight across cut. Excited to try this technique!
You explained very good
Thank you 🙂
Who else is here because of the price hike in haircuts?
Its too expensive 😂
All the haircutters around where I live went from $20 to $30 in the last couple of years. By my math thats a 50% increase and they want a tip on top of that. Im so glad they did that because now I cut it myself and not only does it look great it makes me so happy to know I no longer have to depend on anyone for a haircut, not to mention Im saving a ton.
200 rupees... Yaar 🥲 in my area
Amazing Video. Just followed all the steps and the results are amazing!!!! Thank you for your help !!!
Been doing my own blend on and off for just over 30 years now, using the very same pair of Wahl clippers, they're still going.
Thanks ❤
Hope it will be helpful. Thank you
@@LikeToStyle yes thanks
Two and a half years ago, I bought a Flow-Bee for $100. With that, I can cut my hair in 10 minutes and it looks better than when I used to pay $25 at the salon. So far, I've saved over $800.
Oh man, I remember those commercials! Good times!
The savings from cutting your own hair are unmatched. This is a skill everyone should learn
Thank you very much! Amazing tutorial and also very well explained!
Ive been cutting my own hair for a while now and I'm pretty pleased with the results. Good idea to get someone to trim the back of your hair to get it straight. Dont forget the guards. I have and put a big stripe down the centre of my head lol.
I have been cutting my own hair for more than 30 years. I remember doing this with the nonelectric clipper or even just with scissors and a comb 😁😁
The cowlick at the end was priceless... hahahahaha
Very simple and instructive video. I use a Wahl brand barber hair cutter and attachment combs. I do my own hair and other people. The recent CV epidemic forced me to learn. I basically follow your idea but I use the larger attachment on top instead of my hands, which is the same outcome.
This man is god gifted!!
I just go bald😎
Nice video, thanks! That guy: nice job Me: that only took me 3 hours
Yes, it's difficult.
Ya, the first time cutting my own hair took that long as well. It's been a year now, cutting every 2 weeks, I'm at 30 minutes.
great video easy to follow , did it myself and it turned out great
Thanks a lot for your step by step guidance for hair clippings
I have a question. When use the 3 guard it creates a heavy line all around my head like seen in this video. But when I switch to the 4 and go slightly above it, it just create a whole new heavy line. Im not seeing a smooth blend at all. what could I be doing wrong?
Daniel b I've been cutting my own hair for a few years now. If you want to blend in a line on your own hair while cutting it. and if you got the type of clippers with the little lever on the side of the cutting blades. when you pull on the lever the blades get longer or shorter by about 5mm or so, when the blades are at the longest length or furthest apart (blades are open) it means they cut hair at a slightly longer length which should only be used when blending in a line with a guard attached to the blades. When the blades are at their shortest or closest together (the blades are closed) it means the blades cut hair at the the shortest length which is the main regular setting for cutting your hair. Tip: When cutting your hair and you want to blend in a line using say a no 3 guard open up the clippers blades to their longest cutting length with the no 3 guard attached to the blades then work your way around the line flicking the clippers in an upwards and outward motion (like how the it was described in the video while blending the hair) when blending in the line while using this technique try not to go no more than 1 inche max into the line your trying blend in. You can also use this technique to blend in different lengths for example blending in a no 2 to no 3 or a no 3 to no 4 ect
Quick Example/Tip: say you just cut your hair at the sides and back of your head using a no 3 guard and a no 4 guard and you want to blend the no 3 into the no 4 by using the fade motion (upwards and outwards motion) along the line between the no 3 and no 4 just make sure the clipper blades are fully open to their longest cutting length and the no 3 guard is attached to clippers, then just go slowly around the line fading the no 3 into the no 4 making sure not to go no further than 1 inch into the line between the no 3 & no 4 line. That should blend and fade out any heavy lines good luck.
Well one positive thing came out of the pandemic, i learned to cut my own hair. I don't have to go to get it cut anymore , just do it myself.
Glad to hear that
Thanks for sharing. Subbed and faved bookmarked this video.
Your teaching is the best, thank you very much👍
I have cut my own hair for 25 years now. takes about 10 to 15 minutes. Im 49yo, and have a full head of hair, it grows so fast i have to cut every 2 weeks.
Me too, but the back part is the hardest because you got to do it by feel.
It took me about 2hrs first time to me.🤣😅
Easy as pie. At least now I know I should never touch my hair and trust my barber.
The best.
This is an awesome tutorial! Thank you so much!
hi bro, thank you, i cut my hair for the first time and im really satisfied. i was always trying to make minor adjustments to my barbers cut but now i can do what i want , just need some practice and patience ❤❤
I tried this and I have messed up little bit sides so i cut a bit higher then here. Overall not to bad. Next time will be better I hope so, just need more practice. Thanks for example best I found 🙏🙏
Nice work! Thank you for watching
Clipper 2, 3, 4- What is the MM?

Best tutorial direct to the point
Hair cutting so well explained. I think this is the best self hair cutting video I have ever seen. Tq v much.
Thank you
