  • That opening scene took a LOT of balls. A ton of effort has gone into memory-holing the cultural revolution. Boomers were chanting “Marx, Mao, Marcuse!” on college campuses in the United States. We’re not supposed to know that, and that they didn’t abandon the ideology.

    @bilbogaggins@bilbogagginsАй бұрын
    • The beginning of the book is pretty slow, but the story in the cultural revolution is what keeps you engaged. It was a must to include. I don't think it takes that much balls, tho. It's just history.

  • I fear Netflix will see how this is a goose with golden eggs and think up new and far less interesting seasons instead of staying true to the books and end it when it's supposed to end. Instead, they should focus on making a three season series out of Children of Time. I really hope they'll honour the books ... who knows. This doesn't _have_ to go the way of GoT.

  • Three body problem originally described a mathematical paradox.

    @edwardadams9358@edwardadams9358Ай бұрын
    • It still does! That paradox is actually a very important factor in the story, and the reason everything kicks off. The impossibility of predicting 3 large bodies in motion.

      @riley8939@riley8939Ай бұрын
    • It still does it's a calculus paradox involving the prediction of the movements of a 3 star(bodies) system

      @markeastlack4180@markeastlack4180Ай бұрын
    • Still does. It can’t be solved.

      @williampiniarski1702@williampiniarski1702Ай бұрын
    • Not a "paradox". N-Body Systems are chaotic, but still deterministic. There are solutions, it's just that the number of unknown variables and possible outcomes are astronomically huge it's difficult to arrive at very accurate predictions. It depends on the mass and velocity of the bodies in question. One approximate solution is based on the "Restricted Body Problem". That's when one body is very light and can't really disrupt the other two bodies that much.

  • I have read Books 1 & 2. Chinese parts as pretty much as per the book so far. The modern charachters are pretty much new or adaptions of various ones from the books. Interesting to see where this story goes as this is referenced as an 'adaption'. The main story in the books is called hard-science fiction, as a lot of sciennce and physics theory is used, but doesn't distract. 3 Body will be explained later in the series (no spoilers) but it can also be an allegory as James mentioned in his video.

  • From a reader of book one, they did a sensible job of splitting the main scientist’s role into several characters. Better for TV. More potential character possibilities. Do wish the sky blinking had been a little more defined as the buildup to it in the book was freaky, very personal and more character driven. Do understand why they made it simpler but missed a lot of the insanity factor.
