The sad thing the little girl in the virtual simulation was based off how Vera looked when she was little. Which makes her saying ‘save me!’ every time Jin fails even sadder.
For anyone who doesn’t know, this series is based off three books. I highly recommend reading them. Some of the best sci fi writing to exist
Better than The Expanse?
@@feynstein1004is Hazelnut ice cream better than Vanilla? Yes, no Art is better than the other. It is whether we enjoy It or not.
Are the books a lot like the tv show? Because Ive heard a lot about these books and how great the ideas are, but I found a lot of the ideas in the TV show to be really corny.
Vanilla is year in and year out the best selling ice cream flavor BY FAR. Just sayin. Look it up.
The TV shows changed quite a bit comparing to the book. It simplified a lot of ideas to make it more "approachable". Also the settings in the show is less grand which I assume is to save time and budget. The show do get the core ideas kinda delivered tho. Albeit the approach makes it imo less impactful and less significant but that's just my opinion. You may find the same ideas in the book's approach much more intriguing or maybe not. The characters are also very different in the books. If I keep going it will just be a another book fanboy ranting how the show is unjust for the books lol. But I will say the book is definitely not for everyone and I kinda get why there's changes made in the show. @@BunchaNothin
12:00 “Will‘s brain is off in the wrong direction 😊” 😂
I can relate.
story of my life
The star blinking was most likely the proton rapidly folding and unfolding, no fully but enough to make the sky visible vs covered. This would explain what Saul said about the Hubble and other satiates not seeing the same and means that he was right, it was a "deep fake". That guy is a genius and definitely a reason why he's being targeted. I didn't read the books so I'm just enjoying the story from this show. I'm not sure how different they are.
You're correct about the blinking, it was one of the Sophons folding and unfolding. In the book, the sky doesn't blink exactly, but rather the cosmic background radiation blinks. But it's the same idea. Netflix's interpretation is more visually interesting than seeing someone look at a computer terminal.
😑
Lmao on 'Skip the tutorial' 😂😅
Awesome recap! By the way, the implication as to why Saul is made a wallfacer is not for bait, but rather because the San-ti tried to kill him. The leaders don't know why, but know he must be important somehow because it was the first time the San-ti specifically ordered the assassination of a specific person.
Yeah, that's also what I've figured. But... the other reason could also be that he's actually a bait for the Wallfacer project. Seems weird to me that there have been coincidences that somehow saved his life (skater, not aiming for head). Maybe the San'ti learned the power of deception and knew that Wallfacer project would focus on him for these exact reasons, and he may end up working in San Thi favour without even knowing about it.
It actually was due to that “Einstein joke”😂
Other scientists had been mysteriously dying from the start of the show and that fat guy was also killed in his house so saul wasn't the 1st.
@@stevelin5109 true, before Wenje died. She gave a joke of Einstein, which when you decipher. It actually is the Femi Paradox and Game theory, which will play a major for Saul in Season 2. In the books louji takes this mantle, which is why they wanted to kill him. Again in the books when the Sword bearer is transferred from louji to jin, the Santi didn't hesitate to attack earth because they knew Jin didn't have the guts to send the signal. Wade would have made a better Sword bearer than Jin in the end, now due to his moral compass out of balance he was left out but he did help Jin in some way.
@@jjacha Its probably the Einstein joke, Saul was the last one to talk to Ye Wenji, and the only assassination that Shan Ti have ordered yet are Ye Wenji's and Saul's. Now that Wenji is dead, Saul knows something, what exactly, Shan Ti probably don't know since they don't get jokes, snd Saul is pretty much on the same track but he is human, and has a biological advantage. "You're smart" As Wenji said, he'll figure it out. I also saw a lot of people critiquing Shan Ti could kill everyone while on aircraft or traffic control, etc. The answer to that is in the books and also in the series. Some key phrases are Season 1 "You are bugs" Season 2 "Our Lord does not care"
The ending is quite ironic. It is framed as a hopeful message, but we are also being compared to an EXTREMELY disruptive insect. It, once again, raises the question of whether we deserve to survive … or to be conquered.
Honestly I even watch recaps of series i have already watched

Yes!! So glad you recapped this
Tatjana erasing herself from video tapes is not what's happening I think. It's the sophons that make everyone watching the footage unsee Tatjana's presence and her actions. Remember, the sophons can make stuff appear in people's eyes (e.g. countdowns) so they might as well can make stuff disappear (people literally can't trust their eyes anymore). Also, in the scene where Clarence (the investigator) watches Jack Rooney's bed room from his car outside he clearly sees nobody there while at the same time Tatjana is taking Jack down right by the window. The sophons have manipulated Clarence' vision.
that seems super difficult when they can only be at two places at a time including making countdowns appear for hundreds of scientists around the world
This is a great recap of the show. Well done
This is an exceptionally good recap!
Finally a new, fresh, near sci-fi, mystery show. I totally binged it. Mostly a quite good show, with a few minor flaws. Bonus point: first (radio) contact with the aliens wasn’t in the US 😅
The author is from china . So most of the characters are chinese .
🙄😑
I binged the show last night and really liked it. I read how the plot of the books unfolds and omg if they continue the show it is gonna get beyond crazy and mind meltingly good.
This was far better than I expected.
Absolute Masterpiece of a show. Can't wait to read the books!
If you enjoyed this recap and show, do yourself a favor and read the books. They are great and this show did a great job retelling the story.
Thank you 💪🏾
Perfect recap!
why didn't (doesn't) anyone notice the fact that Jin was never killed by the sophon in the game when playing for the first time. since was technically uninvited to play. whereas when others got killed everyone acknowledges it. (sorry for the poor English)
I believe it was revealed that Vera’s mother lied about the headset being Vera’s and it was actually meant to recruit Jin.
For those who haven't read the 2nd book, the joke she tells and do not understand it's importance, its actually the mind bending Dark Forest Hypothesis. Can't wait for season 2.
For what I've heard, there's not going to be a 2nd season. Production cost is astronomically high (no pun intended).

It's literally paradise for them
Maybe it is the perfect bio world for them. But, yeah.
Man if humanity was in their position we would be long gone.
That was the closest habitable planet to them
This show didn't resonate with me when I started watching it, but seems to be all the buzz right now. Thanks for saving me a lot of time!
Watching it now and really enjoying it. One small comment - the Struggle Session you see in the very beginning of Ep1 was very normal for Mao’s plan and his Cultural Revolution. There is no record of the number of people killed in this manner. Thousands. More. Mao set out to remove the 4 Olds - old culture, old customs, old traditions, old ideas. The power behind the meaning behind that scene from a cultural and power perspective on the overall plot was brilliant. I don’t know much about this time in Chinese history, but what I know is enough for an understanding which we seem to have forgotten & might be doomed to repeat. Excellent series (and author) to nudge this back into our subconscious. Struggle Sessions weren’t one-off … they were regular and consistent wherever free thought and creative expression was present. And … removed by the Red Army. 100% youth.
Thanks, couldn’t get into to this show but I enjoyed this recap
Lists of my questions, whoever can answer it: - who sent that vr headset, since its a physical object meaning someone provided it, it defeats the 400years travel - how the human know where to travel in space, or inshort what path to goto? Is it due to the radio signal before?
Note, that Mike Evans already started communicating with the Santi in the 80s. The Sophons were deployed nearly the same time. The Sophon can travel at the speed of light, since they are protons, without mass. They can also communicate instantly through quantum physics. Now its possible the Santi aided Mike Evans, together with guidance or help of the Sophons. As for deployment, Wenje and Tatiana were responsible for the distribution. If you notice, when they capture a hard drive in the Judgement Day boat belonging to Evens. The hard drive they retrieved contained the actual 3 body problem. The Sophon then explained to the them how the Santi were able to do it. As for the direction, I the character of will explains it. He bought the title deeds of a star in a distance galaxy and gave it Jin Cheng as gift. The star happened to be in goldi locks zone like earth, it supported life. They headed in that same direction. The cop Shi's son plays a major role in building this technology of escapsing.
Thanks bro. I watched the first foreign series. i couldn't imagine it landing smoothly here in the States. It's sci-fi-asf
Newby here: Genuine question. If the aliens don't lie and are telepathic, how did the first alien conceal the original message from the rest of it's race?
The alien was assigned to an outpost to listen to signals from civilizations ans happened to intercept the message from earth. He was about to report it to their seniors but then thought what they were going to do the civilization. In their race for survival, diplomacy is not they had in mind. They were going to conquer earth anyway. So he warned earth and simply scrubbed their earlier message/ didn't report it. Later on when ye wenjie invites them to conquer earth, he reports the contact to his superiors. Where they found out about the previous message and his attempt to hide it. Him, his colleagues and his family were punished for his crime.
They cannot pin point the earth's location with the first message, if she does not reply they cannot know where exactly
@@sintee2099 thankyou.
Book reader here, they have a different way of communicating but they are not telepathic. It has something to do with their different physiology which will probably be shown next season

This was explained better than actually watching the movie 😂😂😂😂
the implication of saul becoming a wallfacer was that ye wenjie must have told him something important because he was instantly almost assassinated by the santi. so if they think he’s important, he probly is somehow.
it was the einstein joke, the violin represented humanity advancing technology and showing it off (playing to god) and god represented other species in the universe with even more advanced technology. basically saying showing off to the universe would get us killed. as wallfacer this is a fact saul could use against the santi - and would therefore want him dead.
The show really dragged at points, but overall it was solid. Between this, Shogun and the Gentleman we've got some good shows right now
What’s crazy to think about is that it takes them years to make those shows and that movie but we can finish watching it within a day 🤣

My favorite book series
Amazing series
As much as I love recaps and Man of Recaps - they just don't do this show justice. There's just too much content and context to pack in that is relevant to the greater storyline. The writers have done such a great job. BUT obviously the next best thing is MAN OF RECAPS
I saw a comment above where someone stopped midway and decided to go watch the show. There's only so much trailers or word of mouth can do. I believe Man of Recaps is doing the Lord's work as some people need a nudge to give great stories a shot.
I was waiting for the video, like a 6 year old waits for Christmas
7:45 - sophon cant move faster than light, just very close to light 99.9999%
When Netflix tries to figure out why 3 Body Problem didn’t live up to their expectations (and the viewers), they should watch Fallout. It is everything you could want in a sci fi series. Great story, great acting, great effects. Congrats Amazon Prime.
Really? I heard the live-action Fallout was crap that disservices the video games.
Hey man of recaps, I'm curious if there's a list of your favorite tv shows / movies? Thanks!
Currently watching this show but I think it’s beyond my comprehension so now I’m here 😩😅
Ok, so... what? Gotta rewatch x3
I was expecting a little reference to Davos and Sam but its a great recap without it nonetheless.
show hard as hell... even tho I love this channel, I kinda regret watching this before the fact.. but no matter, I'll watch it.
Don't play with god, is actually the punchline to the joke.
There is no God is the entire point..
The only problem I have is the fact that they were able to turn a “Proton” into a Sentient Super Computer, Split it into 4, send 2 all the way to earth to spy on them in real time but they couldn’t find another planet to move to & make it suitable for them to live on? I mean if your civilization can “thrive” with 3 suns, I’m sure they can figure something out with Mars or something I mean seriously…if they can make a Proton Sentient Super Computer, I’m sure they can create artificial oxygen or something
Earth is the closest habitable planet, and they didn’t thrive under the 3 suns. They’ve been around a lot longer than us so every collapse they build their knowledge bit by bit
Thanks, sir. I've been waiting for your recaps for days. I just finished this series and the Chinese production (Tencent). I prefer the Netflix version for the tighter script, but there are nuisances and details that are explored more in the Chinese version, albeit the pacing is a lot tedious and the acting is horrible at times. I'm planning to read to books if I could get my hands on them. Cheers!
Looks like the ship from Prometheus in the background at 7:10.
Is that the dude from that one movie? the mega structure guy
The ending is quite ironic. It is framed as a hopeful message, but cicadas are very disruptive insects. It, therefore, reflects the question of whether we deserve to survive … or to be conquered.
So despite being disruptive to us humans, we have neither exterminated nor conquered cicadas (as in subjugated every individual and put in a zoo somewhere). They may not be on top of the food chain, but cicadas are doing pretty well it seems.
Awesome
Where does the headsets come from?

Earth can be saved if humanity figures out how to unfold the Sophons. The Santi gave them a basic rundown of the process.
Thank you very much, I did enjoy this recap. I feel like this show might end in a disaster, knowing who is behind it, so might as well do a recap than watch season after season only to meet the doom.
I understand that perspective, given what happened with GOT, but you are missing some terrific character development and truly moving interplay between the main characters.
Okay so this is way different then the novels, which some important key foundations. I don’t know if I still want to watch it or not 😅

The aliens do not understand lies. Seems simple, then. “We cannot defeat the aliens. So we are not doing all this research to defeat them.” “Well, we just wasted all this time and money on technology. Got nothing g for it.” “This armed space satellite is an awesome work of art.” “I so profess loyalty to our alien overloads. Tell me your secrets so I know what not to say.” “I can tell you one thing the aliens are not going to do…” Etc, etc.

I was really disappointed in this show after been waiting for it for a long time, so simplified, flatly and boring. You better of with a chinese "San-Ti", it's more of a slow pace and long but in the same time more enjoyable and definitely far more accurate adaptation of the book.

Ser Davos of the Black Water!
This whole idea that San Ti cannot lie or even understant the concept of lying is ... well, not only stupid but also contradictory to the series itself. The VR game our scientists were playing was a lie. They didn't tell the players the truth and made them think they were doing something else. So... yes, they can lie. Unless... unless the game was made by the people on the tanker Judgement Day. I've just had this idea so maybe the series is not that stupid. But would they be able to use the technology so well to make such an immersive game experience?
I don’t think the San Ti had anything to do with the game being made. The reason the humans had the technology to make it was because they had help from the sophons which were operating independently from the San Ti.
@@iiericshermanii5495Well, they contacted Tatiana through the goggles later, so the at least knew about it. And how could they not? So I think I go back to my original position - this is a big inconsistency.
@@lynxrufus2007 In the book the San Ti didn't help with the game, not even with the technology, it was all the ETO (the organization of human traitors...)
That is a great point, good plot hole. One way to look at it would be if was the AI they created was operating on its own and communicating with the scientist directly. It's also possible the AI studied the humans enough to be able to tell a story/lie, just like it took the form of a human instead of looking like an actual San Ti. Hard to argue that they weren't aware of what it was doing, so to your argument, they should know what a lie is/was... Another option - maybe different points in time. Do we know when the San Ti learned about stories/lies? I would need to go back but maybe that happened before they started killing the scientist and viewed humans as a threat. This would mean they created the protons first in order to communicate and then the AI to create the game, plus helmet, before they used the protons to disrupt science.
@@adilsoncaetano5684 Does it explain how? they sent the game to the smartest ppl in the world and they (at least the characters in the show) we saying that tech was decades ahead. They scenes in the game were petabytes in size, as shown in the hard drive they found and unlocked by the San TI ( or the AI they created ) to allow Jin and Thomas to play. Hard to "believe" the ppl on the ship alone made those leaps in tech to make that without the world knowing.
