  • The sad thing the little girl in the virtual simulation was based off how Vera looked when she was little. Which makes her saying ‘save me!’ every time Jin fails even sadder.

    • The TV shows changed quite a bit comparing to the book. It simplified a lot of ideas to make it more "approachable". Also the settings in the show is less grand which I assume is to save time and budget. The show do get the core ideas kinda delivered tho. Albeit the approach makes it imo less impactful and less significant but that's just my opinion. You may find the same ideas in the book's approach much more intriguing or maybe not. The characters are also very different in the books. If I keep going it will just be a another book fanboy ranting how the show is unjust for the books lol. But I will say the book is definitely not for everyone and I kinda get why there's changes made in the show. @@BunchaNothin

  • The star blinking was most likely the proton rapidly folding and unfolding, no fully but enough to make the sky visible vs covered. This would explain what Saul said about the Hubble and other satiates not seeing the same and means that he was right, it was a "deep fake". That guy is a genius and definitely a reason why he's being targeted. I didn't read the books so I'm just enjoying the story from this show. I'm not sure how different they are.

    @rekaviles@rekavilesАй бұрын
    • You're correct about the blinking, it was one of the Sophons folding and unfolding. In the book, the sky doesn't blink exactly, but rather the cosmic background radiation blinks. But it's the same idea. Netflix's interpretation is more visually interesting than seeing someone look at a computer terminal.

  • Awesome recap! By the way, the implication as to why Saul is made a wallfacer is not for bait, but rather because the San-ti tried to kill him. The leaders don't know why, but know he must be important somehow because it was the first time the San-ti specifically ordered the assassination of a specific person.

    @georgeclose8816@georgeclose8816Ай бұрын
    • Yeah, that's also what I've figured. But... the other reason could also be that he's actually a bait for the Wallfacer project. Seems weird to me that there have been coincidences that somehow saved his life (skater, not aiming for head). Maybe the San'ti learned the power of deception and knew that Wallfacer project would focus on him for these exact reasons, and he may end up working in San Thi favour without even knowing about it.

    • @@stevelin5109 true, before Wenje died. She gave a joke of Einstein, which when you decipher. It actually is the Femi Paradox and Game theory, which will play a major for Saul in Season 2. In the books louji takes this mantle, which is why they wanted to kill him. Again in the books when the Sword bearer is transferred from louji to jin, the Santi didn't hesitate to attack earth because they knew Jin didn't have the guts to send the signal. Wade would have made a better Sword bearer than Jin in the end, now due to his moral compass out of balance he was left out but he did help Jin in some way.

    • @@jjacha Its probably the Einstein joke, Saul was the last one to talk to Ye Wenji, and the only assassination that Shan Ti have ordered yet are Ye Wenji's and Saul's. Now that Wenji is dead, Saul knows something, what exactly, Shan Ti probably don't know since they don't get jokes, snd Saul is pretty much on the same track but he is human, and has a biological advantage. "You're smart" As Wenji said, he'll figure it out. I also saw a lot of people critiquing Shan Ti could kill everyone while on aircraft or traffic control, etc. The answer to that is in the books and also in the series. Some key phrases are Season 1 "You are bugs" Season 2 "Our Lord does not care"

  • Tatjana erasing herself from video tapes is not what's happening I think. It's the sophons that make everyone watching the footage unsee Tatjana's presence and her actions. Remember, the sophons can make stuff appear in people's eyes (e.g. countdowns) so they might as well can make stuff disappear (people literally can't trust their eyes anymore). Also, in the scene where Clarence (the investigator) watches Jack Rooney's bed room from his car outside he clearly sees nobody there while at the same time Tatjana is taking Jack down right by the window. The sophons have manipulated Clarence' vision.

  • Watching it now and really enjoying it. One small comment - the Struggle Session you see in the very beginning of Ep1 was very normal for Mao’s plan and his Cultural Revolution. There is no record of the number of people killed in this manner. Thousands. More. Mao set out to remove the 4 Olds - old culture, old customs, old traditions, old ideas. The power behind the meaning behind that scene from a cultural and power perspective on the overall plot was brilliant. I don’t know much about this time in Chinese history, but what I know is enough for an understanding which we seem to have forgotten & might be doomed to repeat. Excellent series (and author) to nudge this back into our subconscious. Struggle Sessions weren’t one-off … they were regular and consistent wherever free thought and creative expression was present. And … removed by the Red Army. 100% youth.

    • Note, that Mike Evans already started communicating with the Santi in the 80s. The Sophons were deployed nearly the same time. The Sophon can travel at the speed of light, since they are protons, without mass. They can also communicate instantly through quantum physics. Now its possible the Santi aided Mike Evans, together with guidance or help of the Sophons. As for deployment, Wenje and Tatiana were responsible for the distribution. If you notice, when they capture a hard drive in the Judgement Day boat belonging to Evens. The hard drive they retrieved contained the actual 3 body problem. The Sophon then explained to the them how the Santi were able to do it. As for the direction, I the character of will explains it. He bought the title deeds of a star in a distance galaxy and gave it Jin Cheng as gift. The star happened to be in goldi locks zone like earth, it supported life. They headed in that same direction. The cop Shi's son plays a major role in building this technology of escapsing.

They were going to conquer earth anyway. So he warned earth and simply scrubbed their earlier message/ didn't report it. Later on when ye wenjie invites them to conquer earth, he reports the contact to his superiors. Where they found out about the previous message and his attempt to hide it. • Nice recap. Second half of Season 1 got really boring. This recap is a nicer way to wrap it all up.

  • I was really disappointed in this show after been waiting for it for a long time, so simplified, flatly and boring. You better of with a chinese "San-Ti", it's more of a slow pace and long but in the same time more enjoyable and definitely far more accurate adaptation of the book.

  • This whole idea that San Ti cannot lie or even understant the concept of lying is ... well, not only stupid but also contradictory to the series itself. The VR game our scientists were playing was a lie. They didn't tell the players the truth and made them think they were doing something else. So... yes, they can lie. Unless... unless the game was made by the people on the tanker Judgement Day. I've just had this idea so maybe the series is not that stupid. But would they be able to use the technology so well to make such an immersive game experience?

    @lynxrufus2007@lynxrufus2007Ай бұрын
    • I don’t think the San Ti had anything to do with the game being made. The reason the humans had the technology to make it was because they had help from the sophons which were operating independently from the San Ti.

    • That is a great point, good plot hole. One way to look at it would be if was the AI they created was operating on its own and communicating with the scientist directly. It's also possible the AI studied the humans enough to be able to tell a story/lie, just like it took the form of a human instead of looking like an actual San Ti. Hard to argue that they weren't aware of what it was doing, so to your argument, they should know what a lie is/was... Another option - maybe different points in time. Do we know when the San Ti learned about stories/lies? I would need to go back but maybe that happened before they started killing the scientist and viewed humans as a threat. This would mean they created the protons first in order to communicate and then the AI to create the game, plus helmet, before they used the protons to disrupt science.

      @rekaviles@rekavilesАй бұрын
    • @@adilsoncaetano5684 Does it explain how? they sent the game to the smartest ppl in the world and they (at least the characters in the show) we saying that tech was decades ahead. They scenes in the game were petabytes in size, as shown in the hard drive they found and unlocked by the San TI ( or the AI they created ) to allow Jin and Thomas to play. Hard to "believe" the ppl on the ship alone made those leaps in tech to make that without the world knowing.
