    • Wrong self serving assumption from get go... Very first reaction by Chinese media was there was 1. Silence and denial 2. When death of Indian soldiers started coming in reports, there was arrogant chest thumping about how PLA soldiers killed Indians without any loss. 3. When this narrative started to underline the fact that aggressors and attackers were PLA and defenders were Indians, quickly tried to change stance that PLA had casualties but it is not being disclosed to curb anger of Chinese population. Flip-flops were on Chinese narrative, whereas India's narrative remained same through out. 20 soldiers were killed under pre-planned attack to take revenge of Dhoklam stad-off (and as one conspiracy theory goes - to match PLA Chairman Xi's birthday).

  • India is its own worse enemy. The moderator and Prof Bajpal exactly the problem Prof Mahbubani is highlighting. Inability to adopt the helicopter view, bog down by Polemics and minute, small minded, unable to tear away from little issues. China has worked out issues as Prof Mahbubani has mentioned with far more acrimonious 'enemies' and settled its land border issues with 13 of its 14 neighbors... That it is unable to work out its land border with India more reflects the psychosis of India in carrying a chip on its shoulder when viewing itself against the greater success of China. This is the problem. India has got to get over its ego. Instead of seeing the positives that can come with a better relationship with China, it tries to be too clever and attempts to play a game joining the Quad. And neither of these two seem to grasp the wisdom of Prof Mahbubani. Yet again, India will prefer to pretend they are the injured party and believe it is clever enough to ride the tiger with the US and get a better deal out of China. Trying to be too clever is its down fall. The answers to the border problem are there for India to grasp. Instead it invents imaginary problems like Tibet which has nothing to do with India. Absurd and obtuse thinking. And they then wonder why China does not give them the respect they crave. LOL. All due respect to India, I hope some wiser heads are on the helm.

  • This Indian professor is a very good example of representing the mindset of whole Indian population, as Professor Kishore points out, Indians are very emotional, Kishore is actually being nice to Indians, what he truly means is that Indians are very shallow, acting impulsively. This Indian professor may speak very good English, but he had never grasped the concept of geopolitics. Geopolitics is all about setting a goal, developing strategies, laying out roadmaps, forming partnerships, it's all about gaining something and achieving your goals, that's what Prof Kishore is emphasing, but does India have real goals? NO. All this Indian Professor talks about are perceptions, respect and disputes...very shallow and emotional. What do Indians want from India-China relationship? To humilate and embrass China, to counter China's rise, or to support separating Tibet from China? Indians successfully achieved the first goal, but for the latter 2, Indian will never achieve them. Prof Kishore clearly pointed out which is true: Indians are again making strategic mistakes today by siding with USA to counter China. I can rest assure now, 21st century belongs to China only, no India. Why? I think you know.

India is contended with what it has and will achieve what it wants regardless of China. In actuality it's the Chinese CCP which is the root cause of problems everywhere. It's Chinese attitude towards India which is why Chinese get treated the way they are treated now. Historically since 1947 it was India which reached out with good intentions to China but the Chinese leadership since then have blundered in their approach to India. Now you'll have a formidable issue with India for the near foreseeable future and you can't ignore it. Deal with it with more arrogance and try to bully it and be ready to pay the price. For CCP & China it is always going to be a lose lose proposition.

Many Indians were sent to HongKong, Burma, Singapore, Malaysia and China as policemen and soldiers fighting on behalf of their British mssters. This created a sense of superiority, chutzpah and arrogance over their own Asian brothers and sisters. Though not as blatant as the Japanese imperialists, generations of the Indian elite, educated and raised in the shadow of the British Empure, transformed themselves into their former masters and acted aggressively against their neighbors. When faced with pushback, they failed to comprehend this important part of India’s past. Despite saying numerous times that in geopolitics, decision makers have to be cold, calculative and cunning, just look at the reaction from the other Professor when Kishore is saying that India may choose the wrong side again. Kishore is not saying China is going to win. Kishore is simply saying, "there is this big rivalry going on between these two powers and it's still hard to know who will win. Why not we leverage this situation to reap immense benefits from both sides and if either side wins, it would not affect me at all" but the other Professor immediately takes it that Kishore is saying China will win.

    • I'd like to respond to your comment by saying that before, during and after the cold war, India did choose a side. Was it beneficial to India? It's debatable. But if you closely notice what India is doing now, diplomatically India is not looking to take a particular side, but rather finding what's beneficial for it and shaking hands with everyone who extends a hand. For eg., India joined Quad and is also a member of BRICS. India rejected RCEP, but still plays influential part in the ASEAN partnership. India is in good terms with the US and Russia. Same can be said about India's partnership with Japan, South Korea and the EU. India even hosted Xi Jinping before it all turned sore. Gone are the days when India would react emotionally. India is far more reassured in its tone, self-confident in its actions and calculated in its strategy. China is licking its wounds because of their miscalculation not India.

      @9thcrow@9thcrow2 жыл бұрын
    • @Vinamra Singhai You're getting emotional again. If you look objectively at the situation, both sides have their own view on the matter. If you think emotionally, you will only see that "China is threatening India with war". But if you look at the matter objectively, you will find that China has almost no major military assets situated in the Western regions but have concentrated everything in its Eastern coastal areas as that is where the US is parking their aircraft carriers and conducting war games right in China's backyard in the South China Sea. On the other hand, China is demilitarising its border with India. Even today, both sides have agreed to not arm the border patrols with guns because China also knows that India is not its true enemy. However, India joining the Quad, India banning Chinese firms such as Huawei and TikTok and a few others, Indian media going ham on China, senior Indian politicians and military generals publicly voicing their anti-China sentiments, all these are signaling to China that India has chosen its side. In fact, these actions are basically knee-jerk overreactions to the border incident. Just look at how other countries have managed to deal with China such as Vietnam, Philippines, South Korea. They have numerous skirmishes too but they still managed to work well with China. Geopolitics is not about emotional knee jerk reactions. This is what Kishore is trying to get at but you guys are too emotional to understand it.

      @sleepyhead6468@sleepyhead64682 жыл бұрын
    • @@9thcrow When Kishore is saying that he doesn't have all the facts of the border conflict, he is being smart and truthful. Both sides are claiming their own version of events. Who is to say who is right? China views the line of control to be different to India's view. Of course Kishore is not going to say who is right or wrong here when everything is still up for debate. That is the problem. You expect him to say China is wrong and you are right. But if you are an objective third party, you will see that it's almost impossible to say who is right or wrong. That is what he meant by taking the helicopter view of matters. Don't look at matters only in your perspectives. Look at it as though you are uninvolved and not one of the parties in this argument then you can make wiser and more rational decisions. As for how the border disputes even came to be, you can thank the British for that. The territories now disputed used to be under the Qing empire. The British colonised India and invaded these territories, taking it away from China. When they left, India became a unified nation and retains its claim over these territories. China naturally would say that these territories being stolen from them by imperialists, should belong to them instead. That's the source of the border dispute.

    • @@poushalinag7942 Thanks for pointing this out. Led me to do some reading on my own and realised that India refused a seat as UNSC permanent member, deferring it to China in 1950 and 1955, despite US and Russia's prodding. Have not seen anything on this matter from China's end except one article that mentions China's wish for a package solution to reforming UNSC. Cannot really comment on China's vetoing at the moment, but notes that it does not reflect well on China's treatment on India. It does suggest as you stated, that China would seem to want to be the only one on top. One thing though, I do not fully agree with your point on China vs US mentality. What China has been saying and doing with respect to US is, let's do business, have mutual respect and strive for mutual win. What US has been saying and doing with respect to China in recent years is, China is threatening our national security, China must be curtailed, it must be stopped from growing, To that end, US started using the Five-Eyes alliance against China and tried to pressure various other countries in its unlawful ways to impede China's growth. So how exactly is China threatening US' national security? Simply put, China's economical rise + US' own incompetence is putting US in the sideline in the global world stage. Not some actual intelligence, military, terrorist or political threat that one would think of when national security is usually used. And certainly not what Trump charged Huawei's 5G technology of with unfounded trumped up claims. Will read up more on China's veto and comment further if anything pops up. Again, thanks for the insight.

India is protected by geography and the High Points, winter and water. China lies open and exposed. That's why Shih Huang Ti built the Great Wall of China from east to west in the north. The border between territories that China occupies and India, although not demarcated here and there, are dictated naturally by the High Points. China insists on unilaterally demarcating the border with India. It ignores the High Points and tries to seize land in the low lands. India can always go behind Chinese positions and occupy the High Points even in winter. Eventually, the Chinese go home. Indian troops, unlike the PLA, are highly trained. It has training modules from the British Empire, the Moghul Empire, Alexander the Great and the Greek Empire and the Roman Empire.

If the Chinese really look down on the Indians why do the Chinese donate their hard earned money to an Indian to feed Indian people in India ? I mean, look at the rhetoric of how Chinese despise Indians and then look at what the Chinese *DO* when they see that India needs help. Then you look at the nation to nation level ---- look at how Modi treats China, look at how he banned the Chinese apps, look at the non-stop anti-Chinese campaign he has launched in India, look at all the mistreatment of the ethnic Chinese living inside India, how they have been summary persecuted, locked up with trumped up charges, and so on, and when the pandemic hits India, when the Indians are dying in tens and hundreds of thousands, when Indians can't breathe, China sent thousands and thousands of Oxygen generators to India. It still has the cast system, and very toxic religious infights (hindus and muslims). India’s GDP was the same as China’s in the 80s. Now China’s GDP is many times larger than India. Market economy works better in China than in India’s. Chinese people are very pragmatic. Deng Xiaoping didn’t want to fight with CCP’s ideologues on the theory of what socialism was so he made up a new name for it “socialism with Chinese characteristics”, which alowed him to experiment with market economy (against ‘correct’ socialist theory) in Shengzen and some other coastal cities. He also said, “who cares what color a cat has, black or white, as long as it catches mice, it’s a good cat”. Even now, the “socialism with Chinese characteristics” has been enshrined in the CCP’s framework. This is why China have been developing so fast. It also drew a lesson from USSR’s demise. Russia’s economy has crumbled and all the formal republics became independent. If it were not for its military power and nuclear arsenal, Russia would be less relevant on the world stage.

  • The point made about being emotional, the time when Xi and Modi met looked like a shift, but later a trip to the US and Trump steered the path which for Modi seems a turbo booster from a salesman President. Relations then trickled down. The debate mentions India's inferior power to China. What makes India think, they have the standing of an equal with regards the US? Sit side by side with Superpower don't make you one. Do they share India's aspirations of being an equal? China is not a superpower and has a long journey ahead. Lifting the people out of poverty is just step 1. They have to prosper and their citizens will demand more from their economic miracle. China will have to keep innovating and expanding. The majority of Chinese can't be bothered about Indians. Most have plates to fill with food while a minority may be snobbish to sow hatred. India must not wait for West's help on development to be on equal footing with China. The inferior complex will disappear once partnership is established. I'm not advocating war, so pardon me here. Even if India gain control of Tibet, there is no legal claim even at UN. With Tibet out of the equation, the LOC is the main agenda dominating India/China division. Does India have the notion that China want to be an occupying force on Indian territories. If so, then fight for a few more decades or century. Otherwise diplomatically settle and move on. During ancient time's trade and travel, China India never had sovereignty war. What made India so sensitive? The strategic heights of Tibet is adequate if China harbours ill will towards India. India repeatedly reject China's vaccine overtures at the height of it's pandemic. Biden has agreed with the vaccine IP protocols but when? Recently the EU also denied Indian AZ travel privilege. Shows the hypocrisy and the leverage they will use to gain the advantage.Will not highlight other unpleasant India/West grievance. India is a member of NAM which isn't any smaller than the UN. NAM's failings in the past, doesn't mean it is irrelevant. India should strengthen NAM and leverage on it's strategic advantage in the Indian Ocean. Just NAM principles is good enough. Distance itself is a good bargain chip. Neighbors are not by choice and for centuries will be. Respond to neighbour's (not only China but all surrounding countries) gestures. With such short term rule, politicians are always politicking (helping themselves) instead of helping the people like what we see in US politics. Unfortunately, India has chosen to side with US, the obvious stronger side in Prof Kanti Bajpai's eyes, to "detain China", so I guess it's only natural that China does not see India as a friend. Should India be respected as an enemy? Maybe not either, for according to Prof Bajpai, India needs a "super power" to support it just to stay beside China. It does not take a doctor's degree to see that India had never been respected by the west, but it takes an honest and courageous heart to admit it.

India simply could not stand the heat from a neighbor who has a similar population but why didn't India achieve that, this has (driven) India into jealousy and hatred. Prof Kanti Bajpai quotes “Finding a balancing partner” to do what? If you are talking about military means, please note this: from 40 years up until now, China did not fire a single bullet. Western killed millions in 40 years. A single blow to Iraq murdered 460,000 innocent men, women, and children! This is a heinous crime against humanity in history! What human rights are they talking about? So India wants a murderer to be a partner? Chinese are not an aggressive nation, never was and never will be. When Biden, Trump or Boris pat on Modi’s shoulder reminds me how the Brits divided Pakistani & Indian, they were once living under one roof in harmony like brothers & sisters, until the British stirred them up to fight each other. Same thing applies when N Korea fought the south. The N Vietnam and south were instigated by Americans. The shoulder patting is sending you to graveyard Modi! As an immediate neighbor to India, I believe, that the world war is gonna be played out on the Global stage in the Asian Continent, and like what happened in the last World War, America came out on top - Because the Global Super Powers of that time, fought between themselves the bloodiest of Wars i.e. Mighty British Empire (Economic & Military Might) and Germany (Economic & Military Might). But they both killed each others, laying dead on the battle field and simply leaving open the battle field for the 3rd Developing World Power i.e. America to lay the claims to their Victory for itself and then for the remainder of the century (cause UK broke its back and Germany ended up divided). NOW..... America simply wants the REPEAT of THAT Same Play BUT with a TWIST! .......... Practically, America should be the ONE to Directly fight / face-off the Chinese this time (as did the British empire did to Germans) BUT !!! As the ground realities DONT Allow a Positive Victory as a Result for the Americans for another Major Direct Conflict with a Serious Major Power & EUROPE is now the "OLD Ragged Man" without any stomach for any future Wars!! --- Hence They Want to Muster Up the Indians to do their Front Assault / Face-off with the Chinese and let these two dogs fight off and eat each others face off as a result, while the Americans will only "Support" Indians to do their dirty biddings. As a RESULT of this, India gets decimated (as No war has EVER produced a wealthier winner!!!) and China becomes also decimated in the process!............. SOOOO! the Analysis of these Mr. Kishore is POINT-ON watch where you step on your Neighbors feet !!! cause ultimately they are YOUR Neighbor ! (And the West is NOT!) Recent World developments such as "QUAD" and putting up Indians CEO's in Major world companies and Supporting BJP in India (an Ultra-Hindu Nationalist Party) ...... • I’m saying this as a Chinese living in the mainland. Practically speaking, the planning horizon is more like 5 to 10 years for socioeconomic development and maybe at most a few decades for some really grandiose long term goal. I don’t think this is necessarily a longer term mindset than western governments, as there are so many great US and European statesmen whose legacy from decades or hundreds of years ago can still be felt today. And the left-right swinging western systems seem to have worked well until recently. The only thing that’s perhaps relatively longer term in the Chinese mindset is history, with official records date back to Confucius’s time about 800 BC. Almost 3000 years’ recorded history is full of lessons of how dynasties rose and fell, one after another. And we can sense that today’s Chinese government understand those lessons deeply.

This is how planet Earth was colonized. Asia is Egypt, Arabs, Israel, Persia, India and it is Ancient India that is related to all. The teachers were the superpowers, there is no others. Britain left India poor and her lands, power divided but India did "set the sun" on the so called Empire. India has never been conquered, invaded but never conquered. Afghanistan, Pakistan and parts of Iran was India, also known as Asia Minor and it was Buddhist India that ruled, it was Islam that invaded India not a separate race. African slavery was also brought into India by the Kings of Asia and later the Portuguese, same as in America, South America, etc and slavery has hurt all civilizations. The civilization that actually understands India is the civilization that will take mankind into the next step in evolution.

Indians forget that both India and China are great civilisations for thousands of years that got robbed and destroyed by western colonial countries. The choice in picking the urine instead of kneeling shows that most Indians rather look up to and support their colonial masters that caused the Bengal famine instead of a peer victim that's standing up for itself to fight against imperialism. Kishore is right that China is willing to give respect to any country regardless of size (ask any African nation) when trying to cooperate but if India chooses to side with imperialists to destroy China, especially with border issues created by UK (India's former colonial master), China will not back down on fighting back.

  • Kanti is right. The root cause of the border issues is not the disagreement of who the small peices of land belongs to. It stems from India's betrayal of China vis-à-vis Tibet. Nehru had met with Zhou Enlai in the mid-50s when both were just freed from the shackles of colonialism & imperialism, and Nehru iterated that India sees Tibet as a sovereign part of China. The un-demarcated border starts to become an issue when India not only gave permanent refuge to the Dalai when he escaped from Tibet. India also allowed the setting up of the Tibetan gov't-in-exile in India itself in Dharamsala. And worst yet, it allowed and hosted rebel Tibetan separatist and CIA operatives to use India as a base to destabilize China. That's when China escalated the border issue which resulted in the 1962 War, and also to take Pakistan's side in the Indo-Pakistan dispute. What had made India to make these choices ??? And today India is at it again by joining the Quad, participating in naval exercise in the SCS. What kind of a message is India trying to send to China other than saying, I want to be your enemy. Like australia, if India wants to make China it's enemy, China is more than happy to oblige if it has this huge power gap over India. It appears to me, India is just jealous that China is outperforming it in the economic and social development field hence is doing everything it can to smear and annoy China. It is also actively participating in any actions by the West to contain China. And India expects China to be friendly to her ????
