    • I agree completely! From my experience it’s been instinctual. Not saying it’s not something that can be explained or pointers can’t be given but even when I began driving it was just something I just noticed. I’ve just become overly aware to my surroundings since I started riding.

    • I don't think a whole video should be dedicated to it. Just gotta look at the tires and be mindful of traffic. If your lane is clear and you have a car next to you, you should expect they're gonna wanna change lanes.

    • The instructor while taking riding lessons in traffic for my motorcycle license said ''at a red light always put the bike in neutral'', I said to myself wth is he talking about , so the only time I did that was to obtain my license , also always keep looking behind you especially at a light right after a corner or if you have to stop for an obstacle, a light for road workers etc , always in gear ready to go and have eyes everywhere especially behind you I'd say , (sorry for my half English )

  • I watched this out of curiosity. I been on bikes for 22 years, and it NEVER hurts to refresh yourself. New rider or a seasoned veteran, everyone could use a refresher course, might even learn a new skill. I noticed, you ride exactly like I do. Yeah sometimes I get a little wild, but as my dad said “You have to get the big picture when driving and riding.” Best thing he ever taught me. And what he meant by that, ALWAYS look/watch ahead, behind, to your right and left, notice everything. Awesome video, super helpful.

    • Its actually the most important skill for street riding. You can be a master of all the riding skills, but if your ability to "predict" in traffic is weak, the skills wont matter. Start adding speed to the equation, and the widow of reaction time to prediction skill narrows exponentially.

  • the distance between you and the car in front of you at a traffic light is very important. If someone hits you from behind and you are too close to the car in front of you, you can end up between two cars and be seriously injured. So please keep extra distance at traffic lights

If you want to push or stretch that comfort zone out more, go do track days. Your life span as a rider depends on this philosophy.

  • For the first tip regarding blinking your brake light, you can purchase a 'Brake Light Modulator' that will flash automatically when you apply the brakes. I just added this to my bike about a month ago and it's great. Best $10 i've spent on it so far. Highly recommend. They come in all kinds of options (fast blink, slow blink, blink 3 times fast, then slow, etc etc.) Mine flashes everytime I apply the brakes, it will flash 3x fast, 3x slow, then solid. Quite easy to install as well, coming from someone with little to no electrical experience. All you need to do is find your brake light wire and your ground wire, cut them, and tap the device into the lines.

  • This is a great intro video for newer drivers/riders!! Thanks, Chase. Also have to give a shout out for helping me decide on a CBR650F instead of a CBR500R. Not sure if it's cool to post this bc I think it's trademarked, but here goes: 5 Keys to safe driving 1) Aim high in steering - Look as far down the road as possible; NOT just focusing on one or two cars immediately in front. 2) Get the big picture - Be constantly aware of what is going on around you. 3) Keep your eyes moving - Cycling through the several points of interest every driver has; for example, gauges, mirrors, blind spots, high aim steering, etc (NOT tunnel vision); and realize that when a single vehicle behaving oddly or badly is requiring a large amount of your attention, then it's robbing you of the time to be aware of other things. 4) Leave yourself an out - Being consciously aware of what you're going to do if you get surprised by something; having an escape route; being aware of choke points. 5) Make sure they see you - high viz, lights, signals, eye contact, and NOT hovering in other people's blind spots. It's very easy to read these and think they're just common sense. They are. What's not easy is to be consciously thinking about them while driving/riding. Being safe comes down to giving yourself TIME to react when something happens. Remember not everyone has our passion for driving/riding. Some barely have the requisite hand-eye coordination to pass a driving test and may be doing the absolute best they can to get back and forth to work every day! If I sucked at driving like I do at hitting 100mph fastballs, then I definitely wouldn't have a street bike and would probably ride the bus. That's exactly why I never asked the Braves for a spot on the team, but people go in and ask for drivers licenses every day who probably shouldn't have them.

    • I have one on my bike and I've gotten several comments from people when I stop like "I almost didn't see you, then your brake light started going wild! That's a good idea!" Only downside is that it's illegal to have modulating lights on a motor vehicle, but cops tend to understand how good it is for us, and won't even mention it (unless you're being an ass)

  • Hey man I absolutely love your videos, well done.. just a couple of points I would add, wearing high visibility gear always helps with being seen.. non biker car drivers usually drive with no thought of what bikers have to go through on each journey, so we do what we can to protect ourselves at all times. The follow distancing that I was taught works out to 'the 2 second rule'.. I simply repeated in my head "only a fool breaks the 2 second rule". Repeating that mantra when I first started to ride really helped me to gauge and monitor my distance. I basically use a reference point such as a lamppost or a highway sign, tree etc. and count 2 seconds when the vehicle in front has passed to when you pass.. simple really.

  • I started riding while living in Philadelphia. If you are trying to learn to ride in a big city, my recommendation is to only go out on your bike either very late at night or very early in the morning. You want to avoid high traffic periods of the day and the busiest areas of your city until you are very confident on your bike. Stay safe and have fun out there! Life on two wheels is the best way to get around a major city. Everything becomes a parking spot!

  • Love ur videos man. Im a new rider myself. I met a guy with 50 years riding experience and his #1 advise for me was to stay off the freeway. Since I'm just riding for fun, I think its good advise. Why do I really need to drive on the highways for? Driving on the streets is plenty for me.

    @joeyp4196@joeyp41962 жыл бұрын
    • I began riding on the highway directly after having bought my first bike (Honda CBR250R). It depends on where you’re riding and what the riding culture is like, but I must say that I’ve alway felt safer than on the street where there tends to be a higher chance of a collision at intersections. Either way, always stay aware, have fun and definitely continue to ride safe!

  • Great video, but I do have a question. Why do you put the bike in neutral at a stop light? You position yourself well, but if a car comes up behind you who is not paying attention, you have no ability to escape. I was taught to always return to first gear with clutch disengaged so that I can take defensive action to avoid getting rear ended. Just looking for your thought process here.

I wanted a 600cc bike but after taking the course to get my license i went with the 400cc because there is enough power there for anything youd want to do (wheelies, burnouts). The 400cc is still a bit more powerful then i am comfortable with at times but everyone has a different comfort zone. Id take a motorcycle saftey course bc insurance is cheaper and you dont have to do to the dmv to get your tests done as most of them are partnered with them. Good luck out there!
