“strangely anti-fungal” either that’s not a mushroom, or it’s meant to be anti-fungal towards other fungi
Probably a natural way of killing competing fungi near it. Pretty cool

All I hear is Mordecai now wtf😂😂
I like how the fungus is anti fungal. Eliminate competition.
Exactly, Fungi needs to fight off bacterial infections as well as fungal infections and to fight off competition from other fungi. So many antibiotics and antifungal meds are derived from fungi because of how effective they are at combatting infection. It's just that some of the mycotoxins that function as part of their immune system are dangerous to mammals like us as well.
"This tree is to small for both of us pal 🤠 "
just like humans
@@vesq_tv except no fungi is, like, fricking, destroying an entire planet
There is also a woods floor covering leaf plant called lambs ear. It is extremely soft and is why it was given the name. Can be used as a bandage as well.
I didn’t have any bandaids in the house and I finally got to try the egg Bandaid, highly recommend! You use the membrane layer attached to inner egg shell, and when it’s dried, feels like a type of plastic but it holds together well as is. It sealed my cuts within 24hrs
The fungus being anti-fungal makes sense. Humans are anti-human. That’s why transplants and blood transfusions are as complicated as they are, and why the womb is designed to isolate the mother from her unborn fetus. Our bodies attack foreign life, but that mushroom may be better equipped for others of a similar kind.
More ppl need to see this
@@xyNova9741this is a ridiculous post. Humans aren't anti human at all, we're 100% a social species and completely rely on eachother to survive, this has been the case for eons Transplants and transfusions are difficult because medicine is difficult, that's why doctors need 12+ years of study, the human body is a complex system
@@ArabTV69I think he meant it in a biologically internal sense, not in a biologically-driven external or social sense, like how you can’t just transplant any organ into any other human body and the right donor is required along with the human body hopefully not rejecting the organ as a foreign object, etc.

@@darryllavalley7073except it works better for most situations because it is directly and not just stopping the other by getting rid of required material like a halo ring.

Am I the only one who would go around my woods for a good while and just be so satisfied with popping tree sap bubbles?

Having an anti-fungal outer layer as a mushroom makes a lot of sense. Mushrooms will readily devour each other when the conditions aren‘t right for cooperation.

In Native Alaskan culture and tradition, there are many uses for Phellinus igniarius such as making 'punk ash' which is tobacco, but my favorite use is burning it right after picking it from the tree in a sauna! Honey also works fantastically, and lasts nearly forever (it’s also good in cooking, even when you’re not making sweet foods). I’d recommend anyone into survival/natural remedies carry some. Once it’s applied you can just wrap it in a lichen or moss.
Dirt no, there's so many microbes in dirt. Some are good for you but others can make the infection worse. You want your wound clean and add honey then use linen to wrap the wound.
You are just asking to die by infection by using this nonsense
I wouldn't recommend honey, it does have mild antibiotic properties but that is not enough to counteract the fact that your bodily fluids will dilute it to a concentration at which it may encourage growth of microbes. Honey will NOT kill microbes at all concentrations, that's why you can make mead with it.
You are going to get hurt trying to acquire said honey
This is……….. insane. I can’t believe it. Do not put honey and dirt on a wound and expect to walk away just fine
I used to be OBSESSED with Warrior Cats as a kid, and the medicine cats were my favorite. So I would play around with dandelion leaves, and any other plant that I knew was medicinal, and I would use usnea and long grass strands I could tie onto my arm for any wounds i got outside or when I was playing "Survival" and had a "wound". I never knew what it was called or that it was medicinal, thats so cool!
OMG I USED TO BE OBSESSED WITH WARRIOR CATS TOO LOL I had so many herbs and their uses memorized and believed they would actually work irl

Oh no... me too
It's been a decade since I last thought of Warriors, and suddenly I see two comments about it 4 days apart... Maybe it's a sign...
as a person living in Sahara desert it was really helpful 😊😊🥰
You can also use Fig tree sap. It glues the skin together which is a bonus. I figured this one last year when trimming that particular tree. I healed and did not get infected.
Lambs ear is also a good plant for wounds, it was commonly used for bleeds and bee stings, they absorbs blood and helps the wound stop bleeding and it has a natural pain killer, you can also eat them and if cooked has been said to taste like pineapple
Thanx I have a lambs ear in a pot I hope it grows back.
>bleeding >soak up blood with plant >eat plant I have replenished my lost blood with pineapple flavored blood.

How you described lychan, or whatever you called it, is partially correct. Yes you can use water to make it more flexible, but while it is young and definitely usable, you should be able to softly and slowly pull it apart for a long white hair like strand. It also has a lot of great properties. Such as it helps fight off MRSA. It is great in poultices, salves, fighting off most infections and great in tea for creating a strong immune system. MRSA is a pretty bad issue, which I have, and I haven't had an issue since I started eating it as I mow my lawn. It grows typically on pine trees.

You wanna know who else likes information about nature’s bandaids…? MY MOM🗣️🗣️🔥🔥🔥🥶🥶🥶💯💯💯‼️‼️⁉️⁉️
Nature really do give us everything we need
I found some usnea yesterday in my yard! It must have dropped off the trees from the weather we've been having, but I had to put it outside my fence line- The last thing I need is my dog running up with a green fuzzy beard 😅
Thx Mordecai, appreciate the advice
Are there any lookalikes to these species that we should be worried about? Like the mushroom, are there any poisonous ones that look similar in that region?
It's irrelevant not only are basically no mushrooms toxic to the touch but also you can clearly see this mushroom has a distinct white membrane on it's bottom which no poisonous mushroom has and besides this ammount wouldnt kill you even if you ingested it even if it was something really bad like hepatotoxic amanitas
They have no lookalikes, it actually can be good to pull them off because they leech off the trees.
@@kiryowtk2869Even if they’re not toxic to the touch, if you’re using it as a bandaid you’d risk letting the toxins enter your bloodstream which is a big no-no.
@@kiryowtk2869well I might be toxic if exposed to a cut or wound
@@TheDailyKnife009 1. Mushroom toxins are in the cells which you need to break to release that toxin usually via digestion or cooking pulling off a membrane like that will damage very few cells and release irrelevant ammounts of toxins 2. 99.9% of mushrooms are not acutely toxic in such ridiculous ammounts even the most toxic mushrooms like the hepatotoxic amanitas require an adult human to INGEST atleast a few bites to produce acute liver failure and NONE of them grow on trees this way
Damn, a fungus being anti-fungal nature is beautiful
The balsam popping is so pleasing
I have no use for this information and even if I was in a situation where this information was useful I’d forget everything, but man do I love these videos about how useful plants and fungi are
Thank you mordecai im glad to hear youre opening up to nature!
Amazing how much you sound like penguin from Gotham ! That being said . Cool video ❤
Whitman footprint or field plantain is also great as it’s high in microbial properties.
You could also use moss on a gash or other open wound and wrap it with a cut shirt or bandanna as a replacement for gauze to soak up blood 👍🏻
I wouldn’t used moss considering it’s home to a lot of insects

This one mushroom : "Honnestly, I'm not so fond of myself..."
It's actually rubber, I believe (We also call it clay). It's when the tree sufferes un injury or infection and in order to deal with it dead cells chemically alter their contents turning into gum/rubber/latex to close the wound and give it the time to regenerate. Of course I could also be wrong. We recently studied about this in uni. I major biology :).
