Making a Backlit Honeycomb Charcuterie Board

In this woodworking video, I’ll show you how to make an illuminated charcuterie board that glows using epoxy and LED lights. You’ll love this LED honeycomb serving board. This backlit serving board will impress your guests at dinner parties! I cut the hexagons using a homemade hexagon cutting jig and laid them out in a honeycomb pattern laced with epoxy resin.

  • For future reference, I think CA glue would be the way to go for keeping the hexagons secure to the bottom. This would make them more uniform so you don’t have to remove as much material from that side when flattening.

  • Very cool. It'd be better to use handles that have two bolts per handle, though. Someone holding that loaded tray might have the handle spin loose and dump everything, including your marvelous creation, into oblivion. This build was well done and the woodwork came out nicely, too. Thanks for the video!

  • If you put some neodymium magnets on the bottom of the hex board and washers in the corners of the base, you could have this on a wall with the lights on when you aren't presenting food on it! This is a cool project, It really is too nice to just leave it in a cabinet 99% of the time.

  • To help with sanding I bought a off cut of hall runner carpet, it stops the bouncing when sanding and it’s easy to vacuum the sawdust out of the carpet when finished. With the help of a heat gun warm the back of the mold and this will help with releasing it from the resin project. Like the cutting board defiantly a talking piece at the next dinner party.

  • Two things. Awesome project. From the sled to the finished design! Sounds like you need a drum sander!! Slow, but you don't have to worry about knives and stuff. Also, alcohol dissolves hot glue! Scraper seemed to work, but maybe that will help you in the future. OK that was 3 things... lol
