As a graphic designer, these redditors made me roll my eyes. The snobbery was through the roof. Lol
It’s always funny to look at, but I mean he did ask for criticism and none of the comments shown in the video were overly snobby. Of course people are gonna comment on the fonts, that was the point. Besides from the fonts tho, all of those designs looked pretty cool and I doubt most of them could do better.
_"It's Good... But..."_
Average redditors 🙄
The fonts worked with the designs which made the fonts good y’all forget your logo is a white robot and not a blue bird
Reddit is a cesspool that may be even worse than twitter
Font snobbery is the worst kind of snobbery. I can see why people dislike certain fonts: they are often overused or used in the wrong contexts. However, you've shown that, in the correct context, they can ALL be effective and well-placed.
There are no bad fonts, only bad *executions* of those fonts

That was my thought... I think if people feel the need to critique, they will, and so you get unreasonable and nit peaky takes, when most people would see these designed on a shelf and just think "neat." Personally, I'd like to try BLAST.

Comic sans really fit the first one, since it's meant to be a happy and little goofy font.

Preamble: I'm not really a graphics design person (so I think I qualify as real - although I'm a Redditor by heart, so maybe I'm ultra virtual?) Mehhh. I think Papyrus really doesn't look that great in this context. (It does look good as the Avatar title tho, imo). Maybe it's just because it's a bit too thin/fine. The Comic Sans example looks great tho. The strongest "objective" argument against Comic Sans in all contexts that I've heard is that it has pretty crappy kerning. Him manually arranging the letters sidesteps that. Also, Impact does exactly what's on the tin.
@@user-hd6hh3re5hyet in most cases, they internally love the design. they're just not aware of it because their snobby attitude is in the way 😑

Overused doesn’t necessarily mean bad. You found a great context and theme for all of these fonts. I wouldn’t even recognize them in a store or a bar. Comic sans works especially well, because the placement, rotation & fx just make it look custom (+the fact that ”blast” has 5 unique letters)
12:05 Sums it up pretty well, and honestly yeah it doesn’t even feel like comic sans
This reminds me of "Artist's Handwriting" in art class. The words (or artist's signature) is a design that must fit well with the piece and I must say, you definitely made these fit into the design. And honestly, I love comic sans and papyrus fonts for when I'm writing something. It gives me more playful feel (comic sans) and then a historical feel (papyrus)
I also feel like these three designs are siblings or family at least. You got cool grandpa (Seadogs), questionable dad/older brother (Long Horn), and then innocent kiddo (Blast). Its a unifying composition and really balanced too
Are you sure you're not referencing Undertale
Comic Sans does not deserve the hate it gets. It's a completely fine font, and it certainly has its uses.

You must be very young then. Before computers became cheap so everyone could afford one for casual use, people used to use fonts in the right context because computers weren't toys like they are now. Comic sans only got raped to death after people started seeing it as a font that was easy to read for dyslexic people rather than as the name implies for use in comics or for children's stuff. The fonts never actually looked bad, it was just fashionable to whinge about them being inappropriate or overused. Clearly they look good, that's why people overuse them.

I feel that the fonts really work for the designs because you used the designs of the fonts themselves to your advantage, like using comic sans, a popular font for comics, in a design the aesthetically matches a comic book feel; that's one of the reasons I think the fonts were shunted in the first place, people started using them everywhere despite it clashing, and stopped working with the fonts altogether
these designs are better than what 90% of those subreddits could ever come up with, how can you disregard how the font is actually used in the context, I think its fitting for these designs. Great Job for reminding us to not take everyone's opinions seriously

I wish I had the skills to make them actually work like you managed to.
Honestly I don't understand why people don't like these fonts, I mean these designs are fantastic I love all of them although seadog has to be my favorite and it doesn't feel like anything was lost by using the fonts, they just look really cool.
I’ve posted my designs on Reddit in the past for critiques and they were always pretty brutal (rightfully so, because I wasn’t great at designing. Still not (yet)) but after seeing them still be snarky towards designs like yours made me realize that you can’t please anyone on there. These were amazing, and Blast has such a fun vibe to it

Well keep in mind he cherry picked the comments for this video.
I love the one at 13:43, because he gave actual advice. He explained how a product should stand out, but the three fonts he used are commonly used and are also meme fonts and would catch less attention. He gave criticisms and tips and how to fix them. He advised the on the last one he should add "weathering" to the font to make it look more ranch-like, and that is absolutely ingenious! Usually you should be careful upon adding texture and stuff to the titles, as they should stand out, but in that specific one, cowboy-esque weathering would have given great effect and would have looked so cool and made it look very professional!

I think the word your looking for is privileged. Which can be anyone, just comes down to the snobbish and offputting attitudes.
Something that pisses me off is how people think a design is the worst thing ever JUST because you didn't use their favorite font that no ones heard of.
Reddit armchair experts never cease to amaze. Great exploration. Love and blessings!
The Long Horn one is so over the top, I love it. "Extra Caffeine" is hilarious, but it also makes the branding make more sense. I could totally see Long Horn being marketed as an energy drink, and on the shelf next to Bang and Monster, the edgy branding feels right at home, and the black and red color scheme stands out against that sea of neon and whites. It does look like a barbecue sauce flavored soda, though. Maybe the words "Root Beer" need to take up more of the can.
It's even 16 fl oz like energy drinks
These fonts are hated because they are often used by non designers in poor contexts. As good as these all look, you made the fonts feel at home by putting them in the comfortable contexts they were actually made for. Comic sans, comics. Papyrus, desert/beach. Impact, MANLY YELLING. I think it would have been more interesting if you had made it the goal to find a new context for these fonts where they can still look good.
I think you managed to summarize the problem quite well. After all, context is EVERYTHING.
I’m no graphic designer, hell I think I’d be downright terrible at it, there’s not a chance, no matter how deep you are into graphic designing that you’re this pressed over what font someone uses. Some fonts look better than others sure, but these are 3 separate badass designs, even with the most hated fonts of all time. Anyway, 12/10 designs, if I saw these on the shelf I’d buy all of them, especially Blast.
As someone who loves root beer and grew up in the Deep South, the Longhorn one looks *exactly* like something I'd see and drink at a family dinner. You did so good, you made me feel deep nostalgia for a brand that ain't even on store shelves!
Similar to someone else's comment, it's amazing how much "font stigma" seems to affect how good a piece is to someone lol. All these designs look fantastic to me and it's funny to see people try to describe how it's bad because of the font you're using.

Comic sans is good for comics (and people with dyslexia, according to some website) Papyrus is good for things written on ancient paper and impact is good for big things (i see it in like every advert ever too)
There is a reason why they were used so much in the first place. Part of that reasoning may be cheap printing or some other similar thing that doesn't matter much anymore. Yet even so, they were considered some of the best looking fonts considering the restrictions that designers had. They're only considered bad now because people use them for unintended uses. I'm crying laughing as you read the comments. Can't believe you made the designs look decent. Pure talent.
Whenever you were making each one, I was like, “it can’t get any better” but then you would add something that did. You’re amazing!
