Film editors are crucial in shaping a film's narrative and enhancing the viewer's experience. They artfully piece together footage, sound, and music to create impactful stories that keep us glued to the screen.
This year's Film Editing nominees include the haunting yet hilarious 'The Banshees of Inisherin,’ edited by Mikkel E.G. Nielsen, the action-packed 'Top Gun: Maverick,’ edited by Eddie Hamilton. 'Elvis,' edited by Matt Villa and Jonathan Redmond, takes us on a journey through the life of the legendary musician, while 'Everything Everywhere All At Once,’ edited by Paul Rogers, delivers a visually stunning sci-fi adventure. Finally, 'Tár' edited by Monika Willi powerfully explores "cancel culture."
We're thrilled to celebrate their talent with an inside look at their creative process in bringing all the elements together to create the final cut.

95th Oscars: Best Film Editing | Nominee Spotlight
It's obvious that EEAAO will win best editing right? That film was all about editing.
Top Gun Maverick is a really close 2nd... That sequence of Tom Cruise testing the pilots for the first time was lit as f%$
I think Elvis might have a good hand at it, but if nothing else I think Everything Everywhere All At Once will get it.
Top Gun Maverick is better
Well it has won 3 so far we shall see very soon.
I was right!
EEAAO's editing is just noticeably incredible. Plus, Paul Rogers is hot af!
The last sentence is really subjective and doesn't count 🙄
@@rafearcher7882 it is subjective and?
@@CharlieCharlie88 you cant vote on superficial appeal.
@@zhc2200 Well he still won. Deservedly so.
@@RVandergeld That's the problem with society. Optics matter. You will never change that.
EEAAO editing Is just simply amazing to create a movie so complex... Top Gun a runner up!
EEAAO 's editing is just pure creativity.
EEAAO just blew my mind from an editing point of view. It won the BAFTA, so I'm really hopeful it will win the Oscar.
Whoever edits the spotlight clips does a really great job!
I'm really undecided between Top Gun: Maverick and EEAAO. Top Gun had the emotional rollercoaster due to its perfect shots but EEAAO had the creativity. Ughhh, it's so fricking unfair that Sound Mixing doesn't exist for films like Top Gun anymore, this would put me at ease 😩
Great set of nominees though I’m a little surprised Banshees is nominated for Editing and not for Cinematography. I thought that photography with the Irish countryside/sea was gorgeous!
Well, while Banshees' cinematography was undeniable amazing, 'Best Cinematography' doesn't go to the most beautiful looking movie, it goes to the cinematography that serves the movie the best. Just look at an Ingmar Bergman film: most of the shots there are just of the actor's faces but that is what makes his movies so good.
I would love to see EEAAO directors cut🎉
EEAAO should and will win!
I am torn between EEAAO and Top Gun! 😂
I want a tie. I hope it happens.
EEAAO is my favorite movie in past 10 years! But I really want to give something to Top Gun! I do not wish Top Gun go home with empty hands! I am so torn! Can they tie on this😂?!
@@wohola It surely will win for Sound. As for Editing, I'm not that sure. Paul Rogers snubbed Eddie Hamilton on almost every occasion this award season. Luckily, the Academy often likes to take matters into their own hands when it's about the technicals. But yeah, you're right. A groundbreaking film just shouldn't be unnoticed.
Everything Everywhere should win this award. Rightfully editing should have gone to Decision to Leave. Major snub
Film Editing is one of the best awards at the Oscars. Also Cinematography too.
I’m rooting for Everything Everywhere all at once!!
EEAAO Will win
Top Gun Maverick absolutely deserves its Oscar for best editing!😉
I agree
No. Everything everywhere all at once
It surely does.
@@enriquejosecastillorojas6573 Eh. As long as a film that’s in a franchise that Disney owns doesn’t win.
I agree too.
Eddie Hamilton- Top Gun: Maverick ✈️ 💙🛩🩵
Tár and The Banshees are extremely intelligent with their cuts. Elvis put it all together with shuch incredible a rhythm. And Top Gun Maverick is incredibly precise. All 4 are worthy winners.
This doesn't age well 😂
@@RVandergeld Well, I already knew back in the time. EEAAO does a good job unifying the scenes, but I don't think the editing is any masterful at all beyond what the script already does. I still think Babylon should have won.
Elvis, M.Villa
Eeaao
Eddie Hamilton of TOP GUN cut down 118 hours of footage down to 2 hours .. Not only should you give him an Editing Oscar, give him a Life Achievement Award while you at it
Most 2 hour movies have about 100 hours of footage
@@Bsus4films I mistyped .. It was 812 not 118 But cool bro
Editing is quite a hard category because you’re not supposed to notice it the same way you can Cinematography or an actor’s performance, unless it’s really good like with a GoodFellas or really bad like in Bohemian Rhapsody. I also would have nominated Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery… just saying
Cool list
I love editing
Elvis was edited like a trailer or a commercial spot. Couldn’t make it halfway through the film. A shame, because I thought Austin Butler did a great job but the cut prohibited me from connecting with the character!
If it's the 2nd Bohemian Rhapsody, I'mma quit being interested in that category.
Banshees for the win🏆
For Best Film Editing goes to Elvis
Top Gun should Win. It has such great pacing. EEAAO is 30 mins too long which makes it the worst nominee out of the 5 nominees
Boohoo. Hope you're crying now.
Babylon
Wishes for Big Win for RRR
I understand Indians' passion for RRR but RRR is not even nominated for the best editing. So please stop bringing it up, it's disrespectful to all the nominees.
