95th Oscars: Best Original Screenplay | Nominee Spotlight
It’s gonna be Everything Everywhere All At Once winning for Best Original Screenplay. I’m calling it. Also, I hope Top Gun: Maverick wins for Best Adapted Screenplays, especially for Best Sound, Best Original Song (Hold My Hand by Lady Gaga), and maybe for Best Picture (even though I have a feeling that it’ll go to Everything Everywhere All At Once)

@@alejandromangieri1495 Sometimes very skilled people make things look easy, as in Top Gun's effortless storytelling. Women Talking is a bad Adapted Screenplay because the source novel is presented as the minutes of a meeting written by a man. For the reader that's why the illiterate women speak so well and similarly but in a movie it's not so clear you're getting a man's version of events.
@@alejandromangieri1495 Action movies need to be written too, not to take risks necessarily but to be good action movies. For Women Talking I would argue that no person living or dead, man or woman, Mennonite or not, ever spoke those words in real life. I don't mind stylized dialogue or even if every character sounds like the author (Oscar Wilde or Tarantino!) but philosophical debate of that turgid style is pretty easy to write. Let me show you how easy it is - "What is memory but love? For we only truly recall what is buried deep in us, what matters to us. But some could live 100 years without loving as much as we, without cultivating and nourishing those roots. Why then should deference be shown to all older persons for their wisdom, a truly equal society can only be composed of equally caring and gifted".

Nice to see Spielberg getting nominated for writing. We know he is a great director but I also think he is a great writer and very underappreciated as such. "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" is another fantastic written movie by him..

The Menu had the best original screenplay but unfortunately it wasn't nominated. That said I'll be rooting for EEAAO and The Fabelmans in this category. The other 3 films can lick dirt.
