Stephen Fry - Long Time Friend of Craigs - Special Edition [+Helpful Text & Imagery]

2017 ж. 1 Мау.

We know Stephen Fry can be a little bit complicated in his word usage and the range of concepts and ideas he will discuss. So I thought the text and imagery would be of help. The images in the intro are the same images that are used throughout the video as help to understand topics of discussion.
The intro is longer than usual, because it's a special edition, the music used in the intro is a piece called "Valkyerie" by Mr. Fry's favorite composer (as you'ill find out in this video); Richard Wagner (not Frank Wagner, thanks Noitard).
No "real outro" either.
Craig Ferguson & Stephen Fry in the house! enjoy!

  • At minute 12:20, there is an explanation for the word "Lament", it shouldn't be there, it should be further down the road. Enjoy! I want to make a correction, Yasser Arafat was anti-Isreal to start with, but he changed his mind to a more neutral stance it seems, later in his life that is. Wikipedia reads: "...and began to shift his approach from open conflict with the Israelis to negotiation. In 1988, he acknowledged Israel's right to exist and sought a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.."

  • What an incredible and brave experiment to attempt in a Late Night slot on US TV - a simple, honest, one-on-one, serious discussion - without an audience, a band, forced jokes written by a team of 20 writers, gimmicks, etc, nowhere to hide. And how extraordinarily well it worked! This was superb! Stephen Fry is well known as a unique force of nature in himself, but this shows just what an intellect Craig Ferguson ALWAYS has been, even if he often chooses to hide it behind absurdity and silliness.

He's one of the 5 famous people for dinner thing for me, I could sit and listen to him talk all day, so articulate and so honest, both things are a bit of a rarity these days. This format is outstanding, with no audience to have to consider they can get into deeper converstaions that they just wouldn't be able to with an audience present as it's more personal, it also helps they are long time friends.

Today, in addition to that, the weather is cold, grey and drizzling. Hearing Stephen Fry speak did not "cheer me up" (that would be asking too much of anyone), but, it helped me to reach a more balanced state of mind, which I think is the most that one person can do for another, and he does it so well. • I think when it comes to the question of separating art from artist, that humanity clearly has the capacity to represent the best and the worst in one. Within all of us there is great compassion, virtuotosness and love. There is also indifference, ignorance and hate. I guess this is the curse of humanity. "Good" people often do "bad" things and "bad" people often do "good" things. As individuals trying to reconcile this almost impossible dichotomy, I guess we'll be forever be torn. I've come to believe that when we no longer feel torn, we starting to lose what it is that makes us "human".

  • Around 20 minute mark, the discussion on being well-educated in tweed, reminds me of The Young Ones "University Challenge" episode. Post-punk anarchic British comedy, showing I think for the first time a remarkable line-up of actors playing the upper-class toffs, who are still remarkably successful and famous: Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie, Emma Thompson and Ben Elton (more well known as a writer these days).

Craig also has a wonderful ability to just let someone make their point, or just to shut up and listen if he doesn’t know about something so he might learn. The way he would lean on his hand is the adult equivalent of a child cross-legged on the floor with their chin on their fists listening to a great story by a relative.

These longer interviews. Conversations is such a better term. Throw a few actresses and/or actors on the show and he can be entertaining. Give him the whole show to talk to one interesting person & it’s compelling & stimulating tv. Not everyone can keep up with Stephen Fry and even impress him at times. Craig is truly one of my favorite people✌️💚
