Not a dream Stan or even follower of his content, but while he was right, the video came off in really bad faith. Because as much as Dream is a brand, it’s also tied to a person so even if it’s an analysis of what’s seemingly a brand decision, it doesn’t remove the fact that it’s still connected to a person. Plus, keep in mind historically on KZhead face reveals have been seen as this huge celebration of fan support and creator accomplishment so for this video to come out and say “it was a bad move” sort of reads as “you don’t deserve to celebrate”. Now of course face reveals have had their meanings changed and channels are more corporatized so it’s not a bad thing to do, but that doesn’t remove the basis for those backlash comments made.

You left out the fact that Dream hyped up his face reveal and had tons of influencers help him build the hype. He randomly FaceTimed several popular influencers while they were live or recording and they all had shocked faces when he face revealed. It gave people the impression that he had something unique about his appearance. His fans probably felt duped when they realized he was just an average guy and the reactions were over exaggerated. They probably felt annoyed that Dream focused on commoditizing his face instead of treating it like an opportunity to be closer with his fans. Edit: guys it doesn’t matter if you personally think he’s handsome or ugly. The root of the issue is the fact that he got his friends to hype up his face reveal to the point of creating unrealistic expectations of how “shocking” his real face was. Are his fans wrong for insulting him over his appearance? Yes. Did he contribute to his fan’s unrealistic expectations by purposely overhyping himself? Also yes. Neither side is completely innocent.
I don't think he revealed his face to his influencer friends to build hype around his own face, but instead to show them his face, probably because he feels they deserve to see him first before the public. He did say he's known some of his influencer friends for a long time but they hadn't seen him. However you're right he indirectly hyped up his face reveal with the reactions from his influencer friends. Based on the way some of them reacted, fans definitely were more intruiged and probably had high standards.
The fact he facetimed them whilst they were live leads me to believe he did try hyping up his face reveal which didn't work out for him.

I feel like Dream got bullied so much for his face reveal because of the aura surrounding it. Dream's face was a huge mystery to everyone, regardless of whether you were a fan or a troll. I feel that because of this people built their expectations up to the point that most people thought that the epic mystery would either end in Dream being unfathomably beautiful or horrifically ugly. Then, when the mask came off and it was revealed that Dream was, after all, just an average guy, people just couldn't comprehend it.

Charlie did a face reveal and it worked. He hadn't branded his channel on anything other than his voice and it turned out he was an average-to-attractive looking guy. When dreams face reveal came out, a lot of people were super disappointed because he had teased this “model “look and people ran with it. If he would’ve not put so much onto that and let his viewers get ahead of them selves, I feel like it would’ve been different. Basically, Sunny's main point is that Dream's face reveal only gained him short term relevance. Also, this face reveal has generally a negative effect as it 1.) only made Dream's smiley face MC skin less relevant, 2.) he now has to deal with attack to his personal life, and 3.) nothing substantial happened to his channel after releasing this face reveal.
I think the most important point in this is that dream revealed his face allowing him to do irl stuff since doing only minecraft isnt good for long term. Then turned out his personality is too boring lmao. So basiclly hes nothing without hiding behind his mask lol
Actually,his face reveal allowed him to do more irl content and go to places he’s always wanted to go and do things he’s promised his long term fans. The thing is the face reveal is for Dream’s fans more than it is to gain subscribers or pull in an audience. He’s more focused on living his life now and his fans semi respect that since he just started living with his best friends and he can do so much stuff with them that doesn’t have to be content.
I just don't enjoy how Sunny always sees things from only one perspective: Relevancy. Anything else, unimportant. Dream didn't need the face reveal but I'm sure he wanted it. Keeping your face hidden with expectations growing out of control couldn't have been easy. But MAN did he go about marketing his own face reveal so awfully. Actually, I'd argue part of it is Dream's fault, since in the days leading up to the face reveal, he would constantly facetime his content creator friends to drive up hype and every single time their response was always "omg you're actually so hot wtf???" which meant that ppl suddenly focused A LOT MORE on his appearance to see if that's the case. Plus part of it might be that some of the key parts of his personified character didn't even translate over, like the blond hair, making the experience much more jarring (at least to me and my friends) This might just be overspeculation but I feel like if someone like Corpse facerevealed he wouldn't get nearly as much backlash just because the fanarts and ppl's assumptions of him would already fit much better

I don't know much about Dream, but I've seen his name be thrown around a few times. It makes me really sad how quick people were to shit on him. Even now. He seems like a nice guy just trying to do what he loves. I know "seeming like something" isn't enough for me to really make a full observation of a person, but I highly doubt he's an atrocious guy or something.
