You'll Be Shocked At Why Am I Adding Salt and Sand To My Resin?

You might be surprised to find me reaching for the seemingly unconventional combination of salt and sand to add to my creations. At first glance, it might seem counterintuitive-why would anyone introduce these gritty elements into a smooth, glossy medium like resin? But allow me to share the secret: the marriage of salt and sand with resin yields astonishing textures, depth, and character that elevate my pieces to new heights.

  • Those bowls are gorgeous Steve. I have been making pots for my succulents out of polymer clay, I hadn't considered using resin because it's so expensive but adding the sand or salt to it would reduce what I need to use. Thank you for the inspiration!

  • The blue one reminds me of enamelware, the other is very colourful, love them. I have used tangerine coloured sand in jewelry with champagne coloured foil, very pretty. I made a little scene inside a shell using tangerine sand and little shells, must have used 10 layers of UV resin to get that depth I wanted. I’m not sure what critter lived in it but I do know it wasn’t a clam. Your channel is fun to watch, love your enthusiasm.

  • I love these. A lot succulents are rock dwellers. And they like to be in confined spaces. Tuck some Big stones in between them or even broken pottery. I make these but I try to approach it like I'm making a little miniature habitat for them.

  • I love what you did with the plants! I've had some luck pouring some resin first, then adding the salt, layering until it's full, so there's even coverage. Caveat- this works with very thin resin, as thicker resin can hold more bubbles. I like thin resins but they come with their own set of pros and cons. This is just one of the pros.

I have a similar mold with the narrow walls, I push down the middle of the bottom close to the edge , instead of pulling the sides out, to fill it. when released the mold pushes the resin into the outer wall.
