You'll Be Shocked At Why Am I Adding Salt and Sand To My Resin?
You might be surprised to find me reaching for the seemingly unconventional combination of salt and sand to add to my creations. At first glance, it might seem counterintuitive-why would anyone introduce these gritty elements into a smooth, glossy medium like resin? But allow me to share the secret: the marriage of salt and sand with resin yields astonishing textures, depth, and character that elevate my pieces to new heights.

You'll Be Shocked At Why Am I Adding Salt and Sand To My Resin?
Warning: Important Health and Safety Notice:
Resin is an industrial chemical and as such should always be treated with respect and the manufacturers safety advice taken. Here is a video I have made on how I keep myself safe: • Stop Making Yourself I...
Those bowls are gorgeous Steve. I have been making pots for my succulents out of polymer clay, I hadn't considered using resin because it's so expensive but adding the sand or salt to it would reduce what I need to use. Thank you for the inspiration!
Polymer clay is so expensive here in South Africa!
My pleasure happy to inspire and help 😀😀😀
Love the bowls!
Thank you.
The blue one reminds me of enamelware, the other is very colourful, love them. I have used tangerine coloured sand in jewelry with champagne coloured foil, very pretty. I made a little scene inside a shell using tangerine sand and little shells, must have used 10 layers of UV resin to get that depth I wanted. I’m not sure what critter lived in it but I do know it wasn’t a clam. Your channel is fun to watch, love your enthusiasm.
I love how these bowls turned out.
Thank you.
I love these. A lot succulents are rock dwellers. And they like to be in confined spaces. Tuck some Big stones in between them or even broken pottery. I make these but I try to approach it like I'm making a little miniature habitat for them.
Thank you for the advice, these are mostly soil dwelling, as for some reason I just can’t keep the ones that like rocky areas alive? I really don’t have green fingers Lol. More like killer thumbs to plants. Haha
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts it's not you Steve, it's where you live. The UK climate often isn't favorable. Just ask the guys who try to grow the stuff that you're not allowed to grow. It's rough over there.
Those bowls turned out beautiful! ❤ How did I miss seeing you use the Epson Salt?! Brilliant! I got the bowl mold myself. Want to put some abalone in my & use resin succulents in mine for those like me who want pretty things but has absolutely no green thumb. Lol 😊 Beautiful Steve. ❤
Really appreciate and enjoy your style. You show that we can all turn out something wonderful. Your end results are always really impressive.
Those moulds look proper sturdy. The bowls are both gorgeous!
I love the multi color one. The blue is also pretty. I love the pplants😊❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
I was surprised that they came out shiny! I thought they'd be textured. Cool idea. I really love the multicolor sand bowl, but the blue is very elegant.
I love all your words like squidgy widgy and tappy wappy! Please stay your fun self! You are just inspiring! ❤
Love your special words. Tappy wappy! You are such a great teacher. You make learning fun!
A few stones, or even a little resin bird, turtle or gnome would be adorable
Banging the bowl on the table made me think of Queen. Anyone else 😆 5:18
Love your mutterings during the process. Those turned out fantastic!
I love all the funny words you say 😅and I love your work ❤️❤️❤️
❤ I love these! I really need to try this method myself. I especially love the Epson salt one and, the fact that you need so much less resin to accomplish the final result. Another winner Steve. ❤
Loved these.
Thank you
Beautiful thanks for sharing 😊
stunning with such simple ingredients.
they are beautiful
Thank you
The bowls turned out beautiful! Thank you
Maybe packing it in a baster to squeeze in the mold would help decrease bubbles.
Now that is a genius idea, thank you. 😀😀😀😀
@@SteveMcDonaldArtsandCrafts you are very welcome. Thank you for what you do.
Thank you for showing this. I love those bowl molds.
I love your projects. They are gorgeous.
Love these so much, I haven't been using resin for long but I have found myself saying squidgy widgy in my head regularly, now I have 2 new things to add lol
What a brilliant idea
Very nice tutorial.. the bowls look awesome and make wonderful pots..I like the extra teaching on the plants also.. resin and plants...my favourite ❤😊 blessings from Australia 🦘🦘🦘
You should try adding little bits of broken, colored, mirrored glass. They sell it at craft and home stores to put in table decorations. It would look phenomenal in your soap dishes.
Beautiful as always!!
The pots are very pretty. We need an african violet pot mold.
Those bowls are amazing! My favorite is the one with Epsom salt. It's one of my favorite colors.
those are beautiful bowls. Just my 1 cent
I used to luv working in my flower beds. I had an nn ice plant that was my fav of those kind. It grew way bigger than the info said it was going to. It had bright pink n bright orange. I just might have to grow some in a green house and sell them like this. Such great ideas Steve
The bowls came out awesome thanks for sharing ❤❤
You always make me smile and laugh. Watching the videos you make bring me joy, so when I am down, you're one of my go tos
What an awesome idea! I might try the sand idea in my seashell moulds 😃
Now these I really like! So pretty...Nice job!
Oh goodness, these are fantastic! 🤩
Absolutely brilliant xx
I love what you did with the plants! I've had some luck pouring some resin first, then adding the salt, layering until it's full, so there's even coverage. Caveat- this works with very thin resin, as thicker resin can hold more bubbles. I like thin resins but they come with their own set of pros and cons. This is just one of the pros.
I love this idea, thank you. x ❤
They are so beautiful! Very cool techniques. Thank you for sharing ❤
Fantastic pieces! Thanks for the tutorial 😊
Droppy - Droppy comes in handy to get that resin down in there! 😉Once again, love your sense of humor, Steve!!😄
I have really been enjoying your videos! Thank you for making content.
Love these. The sand one is amazing! Thanks for sharing love all your videos!
Love the bowls beautiful ❤
I just ordered your mixing bowl kit with the mat. I can't wait to use it
Awesome bowls!! Great mold! 🎉
Wow those bowls came out so beautiful thank you for sharing this. I would have never thought of either sand or epson salt in resin.
Absolutely beautiful
I would 100% buy a T-shirt with "Give it a Squidgy Widgey!!" on it LOL That's an amazing merch idea xD Your Teexpert kit seems to be out of stock on Amazon, I've followed the link on the last 2 videos and haven't managed to catch it in stock :( The sand bowl looks like a ceramic dish, that's so pretty! My favourite is the salt one because I'm bias to purple-blue AND it looks like some kind of agate or crystal! GORGEOUS project, really stunning outcome, love those mini gardens, they remind me of the zen gardens that you can buy! So calming and relaxing to have them near to your crafting space, love a little spot of nature right next to me :D Another fantastic video Steve! Thanks so much for sharing with us :D
both bowls are gorgeous ❤
Oohs they turned out great 👍🏻 🌵🌿
Very, very pretty 😍
The 2nd bowl reminds me of the game called Simon, i played as a kid. So cool!
I love the bowls !!❤❤
Beautiful job..❤
Those are so neat.
Those bowls are gorgeous.
every time I watch stuff you do I am wowed
Steve, you are always fun to watch and so informative. ❤❤❤
I haven't been able to afford a membership yet, but I do this with aquarium rocks. Saves a lot of $$$ on deep pours!!!
I love these. They look wonderful all finished with the plants. 😍
You managed to get baby poo texture consistency and color perfect. 😮
GORGEOUS ❤❤❤❤❤❤ love how you can grow your succulents from clippings. I’ve tried with no luck other than a Christmas cactus.
WOW I never knew you could mix sand in the resin what a cool and beautiful idea 😍
Ideal for bonsai xx
Those bowls are lovely. I am partial to the blue one because that’s my favorite color. They make lovely planters.😊
both beautiful
Oh, STEVE! Those are amazing! Gorgeous textures for both sand and salt! 😍😊
Beautiful 😍
Never seen anyone use fake snow is amazing so illuminous u use it all the time
I love the bowls made with sand and salt! They are truly beautifully made. Gives me an idea of how to make some of my resin arts look amazing!🤩
Thank you Steve, for the knowledge and courage to experiment! I have wondered about doing this with crushed limestone or rock to make planters for y succulents.
Thank you. I loved this one
wonderful!!!
Love these by the way!
Thanks
Thank you Janet, your support means the world to me 😍😍
Omg I want those bowls. They are gorgeous. It was alot of work but oooh so worth it Steve.
These are gorgeous! I need to try the Epsom salt one. I love the way that looks. Amazing job as always!
Awesome ❤
😲. I have lots of Let's Resin molds and never realize they have the volume on them. I'm just waiting for payday to buy this mold 😊.
Oh, you do make me giggle! Love the new tappy wappy! Goes well with the squidgy widget! loving the results!
Really nice
These are great! Ive used sand before but wasnt sure how much less resin the use. This is very helpful. Thanks
I love the effects you’ve created. This is something we could do with smaller amounts of the epsom and/or sand to help save some on resin in projects, yes?
Smashy mashy!
Brilliant! I am definitely going to try the epson salts. Great to save on expensive resin and it looks fantastic, too. Thank you for making these videos.
I ABSOLUTELY LOVE watching you, Steve❤ I am very excited to give these a try 👏👏👍! I’m just trying to find the exact resin you’re using as I’ve had major difficulties with other deep pour brands I have tried….unsuccessfully 🙁. Thank you for sharing all of your ‘experiments’ and giving us artists some wonderful tips❣️ Have a very blessed day🥰
How cute would a bowl with love hearts look with rosette succulents.
I love the Epsom Salts effect. How on earth did you think of that? By the way, those things you found on your roof are known as ‘house leaks’ as people have planted them on roofs to stop leaks!
they turned out beautiful! I love the Epsom salt effect. I have a similar mold with the narrow walls, I push down the middle of the bottom close to the edge , instead of pulling the sides out, to fill it. when released the mold pushes the resin into the outer wall. Not explaining that very well, sorry. 🤔
Steve I find myself using squidgy widgy a lot😂😂 Would love to see/hear your fave comment of the week. Love Love Love these bowls, they are beautiful ❤🤩
😂 you are so funny!
Thanks, not on purpose most of the time Hahahah
Love your ideas. How do you clean your mixing silicon molds.
I now use big wipes, I link them in a lot of videos. They clean everything and keep them lovely and soft, without scratching
Great bowls!! Where is their link??
I have made few succulent bowls out of beach sand and resin and resin succulents from molds. I love making them!! You said you used sand and epson salt? Was the sand white and you colored it? I have been using beach sand, and it gets dark in the resin.. I would love to explore!!which bowl was the epsom salt?
Hi Steve... I love the results of these bowls. Have you ever tried using the salts and/or sand in eco resin/Jesmonite? Do you think it would work? Also, I can't find the link to the super fine white sand you used.... I may be missing it completely!?! Much love from Nat. (Brisbane, Australia)
Great videos Steve. I'm new to resin and want to order your TExpert resin kit from Amazon UK as you've linked below the video. But once clicked in to Amazon it states that this kit is currently unavailable. Is there somewhere else I can buy from?😊
Do you not need any drainage holes?
