How to care for Goldfish Fry: from Eggs to 1 Year
My carnival goldfish had babies unexpectedly. I have had them for four years and right before I moved them into the pond, they laid eggs.
This video is my experience with taking care of the goldfish fry. I did keep some and they will join their parents in the pond this summer!

  • I love how you care for your fish! Most carnival fish are doomed to a bowl for the 2 weeks they will be able to survive in it . The pond is gorgeous! I one day hope ( if I can get my parents approval) to have a mini pond made of a large storage bin for some fancy goldfish! I hope your fish live long!

Then when I saw the tank there is a lot of eggs there. So please let me know what to do next, Do i need to separate the 2 goldies in another tank? And what do these eggs need?

  • Hi ! I have a question! My goldfish have layed eggs for the first time and I noticed that 4 of them have babies in them, I don't want them to die and would love to attempt to raise them and either buy a tank for them or put them in my pond, however I don't have another tank for them right now, only a bowl. I don't want to keep them in the tank and have them get eaten, but I dont have another tank set up. My only options are the bowl or another large container, what do you think I should do? I hope you'll answer!

    @hannahgibson6473@hannahgibson64732 жыл бұрын
    • I would take them out and put them in a bowl for now. They take about 4-7 days to hatch. You may want to get some baby brine shrimp. You can get them frozen at petco or you can order a bribe shrimp kit off Amazon and hatch them yourself. You should probably get a sponge filter. They babies can’t get sucked up in it and it will help keep the water clean. I would also fill your bowl with water from the tank (at least half of the bowl) the other half can be new water. I’m out at the moment but if you have any other questions let me know and I will answer them as soon as I can! Also, if I think of anything else that may be help I’ll add to this response. Congrats on your babies and good luck!!!

    @infiniteviberz1595@infiniteviberz15952 жыл бұрын
    • They can get as long as 12”. They will not grow bigger than the space they have, so if their tank isn’t large enough they won’t reach their maximum length. However, by not allowing them to grow as they should, they will not live as long as they could, which about 5-15 years, some have lived longer.

    • I personally love Eco-complete. It doesn’t turn your water foggy when you add it and you can add it straight from the bag. I use it in all 3 of my tanks. Two of my tanks are heavily planted. I also use Seachem products, like Excel (a liquid co2 and Flourish (a nutrient supplement for planted tanks). The two heavily planted tanks require very little maintenance. The goldfish tank is different. Goldfish in general are much dirtier than other fish. They eat and poop a lot, which leads to a lot more maintenance even when using a fluval fx4 canister filter.

  • What happened to your aquarium seed planted tank?

    @Jun127@Jun1273 жыл бұрын
    • I still have it, but unfortunately most of the plants ended up dying. I did try adding Co2, but found out later on that almost everyone who used those seeds experienced a similar problem after about 4 months. The tank was beautiful for the first few months though.

      @FerretTails@FerretTails3 жыл бұрын
    • @@FerretTails Interesting. I was able to find one person who live-streamed himself cleaning/trimming an overgrown tank full of these "small leaf aquatic seeds" kzhead.info/sun/ga2xlq1wr6iJdWw/bejne.html I guess his tank is already over 4 months in this video, but I'm curious what the ultimate fate of his tank was as well. Hopefully I won't run into the same issue. I'm several months into the experiment and my fishbowl is already overgrown. I haven't had any problems so far except overgrowth and an initial bacterial bloom, but it will be interesting to see what happens. Considering they produce seeds, it's possible they "go to seed" under certain conditions and die off under certain conditions. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like there is much information about this plant so it's hard to say why some people are having more issues. The lack of people showing old tanks with aquatic seeds probably means most people aren't successful.

      @Jun127@Jun1273 жыл бұрын
    • @@FerretTails Do you think it's possible to replace the aquatic seed plants with better carpeting plants as they die off? For example, pulling them up and slowly replacing them, or are they hard to get rid of once established? I just started another tank with seeds and if it's too hard to fix I'm wondering if I should just pour boiling water on them now to destroy the seeds and start over with regular plants.

    @jenniferp8035@jenniferp8035Ай бұрын
    • The bigger fish will absolutely eat the babies and they will eat the eggs so if you want them to survive, you’ll have to take them out until they’re big enough and fast enough to get away from the larger fish/their parents. I ended up with close to 300 baby fish and I had to take some of them to the pet store because there was no way that I could keep them all. There’s no way for me to give that many fish proper housing long term because they end up getting so big. I waited till they were about an inch long and then I picked 10 that I wanted to keep and gave the rest to my local pet store. It was so hard to pick the ones I wanted. I wish I could have kept them all. The ones I kept and their parents are doing amazing! I built a pond and they love outside year round. 🥰

    • That would definitely work I think unless they were small enough to swim through the net but in that case, they may be able to swim back through and get away from the bigger fish. Yoyr pond sounds amazing! I really really want to expand mine. The coolest thing is we have frogs that have also taken up residents in the pond and now every year since we built it, we get tadpoles. @jenniferjoseph2437@jenniferjoseph2437 Жыл бұрын
    • Not in the beginning, they don’t really create a lot of mess, it’s mainly the food that they don’t eat that causes the water to get gross. If you don’t add a filter you will prob need to do partial water changes every few days to ensure the levels stay good and prevent the ammonia and nitrates to get to high.

    • I moved the eggs. They were originally in my 100 gallon with my big goldfish who now live in the pond I built them out back. But I moved all the eggs I could find into the tank in the video. And I didn’t add the filter until the babies stopped hanging on on the glass. The first day or two after their hatch they stick to the glass. But as long as you keep the water clean you probably wouldn’t need a filter. And when you change the water I would just do small partial water changes. They are so little the biggest mess will be any food they don’t eat. And sadly, if you don’t move the eggs out of the tank with your big fish, they will eat them.
