      @rolih6@rolih6Ай бұрын
    • @@rolih6 really? what is unique to Apple's ecosystem? google photos ecosystem is fantastic (backup, automated memories, creating photo collections for you, etc), the maps function integrates incredibly well with calendar, even reminds you of what time you should leave to be somewhere on time, including emails you received in gmail with travel itineraries you forgot to add to calendar. links very easily to google home, both of which work great with Spotify (which I realize is not Google, but Spotify also supports storing your own audio collection even with no subscription so I'd never use Apple Music anyways), the google home shows me recipes, allows me to add stuff to my shopping list verbally and immediately view on my phone, allows me to sideload any apps I want not from the google store (or even load my own OS if I really wanted to), has models available with 3.5mm audio jacks if I want to have superior sound quality with an external DAC. What am I missing? different coloured texts and other non industry standard texting (unless I use the more internationally popular whatsapp), facetime (also has both a google equivalent and whatsapp). One miss was not mentioning Nothing 2a is incompatible with Verizon (according to Wired Magazine). • I've had the Nothing Phone 1 for quite some time now, first Android phone of my own, definitely prefer it over my past Apple phones due to the extensibility in terms of customization and freedom of use. As for the camera, I take a lot of photos and I've found that switching to using the GCam application, which is a fork of the camera app found on the Google Pixel phones, I end up getting markedly better images with the right settings and adjustments tuned in. A few odd things about the phone though: Audio recording seems to have some noise cancelling applied to it which I find annoying in my videos. I'm not sure if this is a changable feature in android or if it is just how the device is. The other is the lack of ability to customize the Glyph lights, for this I worked around it by programming my own application that lets me take control of the Glyph LEDs.

Someone made a sketchy custom ROM later, but the whole platform sucks. Meanwhile, my Moto G2 is still alive running Android 8, even though I don't use it anymore as phones with 1GB ram are e-waste nowadays. • I suspect that Nothing is saying the 2a is a developer only item because it's effectively incompatible with 5G networks in the US. It only supports one band of 5G of T-Mobile's network (the mid band) and that's it. The manufacturer says "don't use this on Verizon" at all. Since it's not really compatible with much, I don't think they wanted to deal with the headache of returns for people who won't read the limitations and having a dev kit makes it painfully obvious not to buy unless you know what you're up against.

While the Nothing 2a technically works on all of the main providers in a vast majority of their service areas, the near-total lack of 5G and CDMA support for rural areas makes it a hard sell for the outdoorsy or on-the-move type of user-also apparently you need to have your device registered with Verizon for it to even be able to access service, so that's a fun one.
