I’m pretty sure some of us have a washing machine we load and ignore, but here we are, on the internet, watching someone’s washer from start to finish (watching the whole thing!) wash a load of laundry and find it utterly satisfying 😂 it is fun to watch, but I am laughing at myself a little.

Holy crap the rollover is the best I've seen in a top loader. That agitator REALLY gets the laundry going. I also love how you put in a very colorful blanket. Makes it more satisfying to watch. Great video.

I did 8 loads yesterday in my near identical machine! 32 years old about??? THATS quality!
@@grandcarriage1 Someone in the comments told me that this model was made in 1998, but you're right, still good quality
Sold them buy the ton back in the late 80's. Very high performance for not a lot of money. Built by MayCor aka Maytag in this era. Also built under the Admiral, Maytag Performa, Norge, of course Magic Chief brands. 3/4 hp drive gave them the 20 pound rating and yes wash action that rivals SQ. build quality but not as robust, but certainly one the better machines of this era!
Channel123 : So essentially, this has the original type Maytag mechanicals? That would explain why my identical Crosley-badged washer has been so bulletproof.

Now let me tell you, this brings back a lot of memories of grabbing my blanke and laying next to the washer and dryer on a Saturday morning..Mother used to clean the house and do laundry that day and I got to get comfortable and enjoy a nap..The good old days..Thank You and God Bless..

That's a well built machine, all performance no nonsense get the job done and last for years. I hadn't even heard of Magic Chef washers. I knew they made appliances but never seen their washers before.
They used to just make stoves and refrigerators back in the 70s

It reminds us of our old childhood
The comments are rather amusing. Some of you saying this is a "small" washer when this was one of the largest top loaders ever made. People now have smaller families but want gigantic washers, I guess to just throw it all in one load and forget about it . The capacity of this washer would suffice for anyone today. I had one of these but the older style with the lint filter on the agitator. Great washer that cleaned the dirtiest loads.
And larger capacity machines of today don’t even clean because the tubs do large so it’s useless
@@terrorblossom4829 I think the problem might be that the agitators or wash plates are not proportioned to the size of these cavernous wash baskets. Gigantor tubs with small little paddles or vanes on the supposed "agitators" can't utilize the full capacity.
I used to sell those Magic Chef and Norge washers with the 3/4 hp motor. They were incredible and when tested by consumer reports, "outwashed all other washers by far ''. They had reliability like the old Maytags too. Unfortunately, this was too much for the competition so they were taken over by another company and were used as a kicker and turned into just average machines. The pulleys were made plastic and after a while the thrust bearings would melt into them. Transmissions were changed too. Sad.
The older washing machines are built to last
i had a Maytag Peforma washer that had the same kind of tub and agitator but it had a different control panel. i had it for along time but its motor blew in 2016 and now i have an LG washer

This is very satisfying! thanks!
I can watch this alllllllll day it’s so satisfying!!
2:17 Love the jet filling. Much more efficient than most modern washers whose filling flow is artificially limited
They do that ridiculous flow restriction on newer machines because the fill valves aren't powerful enough to close if the inlet pressure was any higher than what the restrictors allow. They just don't make 'em like they used to
Cheap solenoid valves fight against water pressure. Real industrial-level ones use the pressure from water source itself to control the valve stem like a fluid version of relay@@DaSamNudge

Yup, that's a Norge. They also made an identical machine branded as a Montgomery Ward. This would have been one of the very last Norge-built Magic Chefs, Maytag took over about the time this one was built. Also DAT WATER PRESSURE
And that air in the pipe xD
Now that Harley has mentioned Norge, it DEFINITELY sounds like a Norge. My parents used to have a Norge electric dryer back in the day, it was replaced in the 90s with a Whirlpool Gas Dryer. I just love how the machine is all business. Just does exactly what it's supposed to do. No frills, no bells, no blue LEDs, just washes and just works. Right every time!
+jaykay18 , Besides the fact these were actually made close to commercial quality, never broke down. The washers they make today are pure crap.

Best type of washer ever. I want one
I love the look of that washer it’s awesome
Yeah, a lot of the older ones, like this, were very reliable and user friendly, and, like what you said, has a cool design. Now most newer washing machines have no personality and crap out on you in just 4 or 5 years.
@@FIRESTAR56566FR my grandparents have a old electrolux top loader that has lasted 7 years so far. Thats 2 years Past the warranty.

I agree. Older top loaders can last for decades. The newer ones have no personality and are nothing but LED lights and buttons. I'll give them this though: They clean better than your standard washer, and actually submerge the particles underwater
Do you still have this washer?
Do you like the washers with the agitators or the top loader washers without the agitators?
I have a Kenmore HE4T Front Load Washer and a Kenmore HE4 Dryer. The dryer almost set on fire though due to the lint getting the cage bypassed. One thing I need to know, is that my washer and dryer are 15 years old! Jesus Christ man! Anyways. Nice review of that washer-- (crap! I already said this. Nice and smooth.)

Wich is better? European front load or american top load washer ? I mean every have good and bad traits but which is better
@@thesoniccrew1225 For me front use less water but for people with detergent alergy better option is top load (use more water when it rinsing clothes)
the regular knock the machine makes when agitating (it can be heard in both agitation sequences, but it is the loudest in the wash sequence) almost sounds like the rhythm of a song so it is easy to dance to
the knock is the brake mechanism on the tranny. simple but effective, but noisy on stop
oh i thought it was part of the bottom of the agitator hitting the basket because it is always heard when the agitator is facing the same direction
Amazing . 😱

A great working old school washer. I have a Kenmore Heavy Duty 2000 model year and it's still working great with only 3 knobs to select load size, water temp and cycle. I sincerely dread it when mine dies but, thank goodness there is Speed Queen.
the speed queen of this type is no longer in production either. good luck. go find an old style rebuilt 2 belt Maytag at a refurbished dealer. about $300 and worth it if seals and bearings are new. the older direct drive whirlpools are also a good choice. should have a new tranny as they last about 15 or 20 years. replace tranny and clutch, good for another 20 years at $250
Just think of how much water it consumes. Buy front load if you care about your environment
@@jimgillion6453 The Speed Queen is back into production after a lot of fallout from the public. Avoid the 2018 model. The 2019 Has the transmission (old school)

But I had no choice. Mine came with the house we bought. Needles to say I like the good old fashioned ones that really whip the clothes around. That's what gets them clean. Where do I purchase this machine please?
I like top load washers with agitators.
Me too. I find the ones without agitators kinda weird
@@FIRESTAR56566 I love agitator washers! I hate those pathetic mini-agitator washers...the new H.E. ones...My god I hate those so much!! Never watched his videos since...he always criticizes my appliances...I am a HUGE addict of these vintage washers!
I love the water is filled to top!!! Any suggestions on new washers these days that fill like that or close?
Now that is a washing machine that cleans! Nowadays HE washers are use so little water that they don't even move the clothes around. I did a timelapse video and I found out that the clothes on the top layer never get washed......
With the HE machines you can load them full but lighter( don't pack it) the rollover is different, the clothes are not pulled down into the washbasket like regular agitator machines they are agitated, pushed up the center of the washbasket and out towards the sides of the basket down and back in towards the agitator, clothes are washed like they're being washed with a washboard
@@martinbirdwell7986 In the timelapse video I took, the top layers pretty much just stayed there, didn't move much. But after I poured in 3 buckets of water I can see it worked much better by "eating" the clothes into the agitator and circulating the whole tub.
@@Commander_HW The new machines are weird I work on them that's how I know how they work, if there's too many clothes in it it won't agitate them right because you're not dealing with a machine with an agitator you're dealing with one with an impeller, the agitator pulls the clothes down to the blades where the the clothes are cleaned, the impeller cleans the clothes, pushing them up and out towards the sides and back to where they are cleaned again, the rollover action is reversed between the two machines
@@martinbirdwell7986 OK, let me try to do two loads this week, so there are fewer clothes in each load.
@@Commander_HW now if you wanna see the clothes washing the latch that's on the lid should be able to come off use a star wrench to unscrew it from the lid and stick it into the lid lock the same way it was in the lid and then start machine

I never knew Magic Chef, out of all companies would start producing washing machines. I thought they only ever did cooking and kitchen appliances?
Logan T Magic chef just put their name on it it’s a Norge washing machine. They produced any washing machines.
@@petermaz701 I dont think that's entirely true. Usually any company that produces kitchen/household appliances is almost guaranteed to make washers.

Back in those days they all worked similar to this and you could count on them working for at least ten years without skipping a beat. Unfortunately they use too much water.
No they don't, the new ones use to little
Right on-! Unfortunately no matter what the govt. has tried to brainwash into millions of people, it takes more than two quarts of water to properly wash a load of clothes. This is a great old machine despite the water usage - wheres the economy in saving water if you have to run the load twice to do the job, or worst yet lose whatever money you saved on water because you have to replace a junk machine every three years or less-??
