  • I remitted my diabetes with low carb diet. It's now been 23 months. It's great not feeling hungry all the time and constantly thinking about food. I've lost more than 20% of my starting weight without trying. Clothes that had been tight on me now swim on me. Thankfully I've managed to alter some of them to fit and also been very blessed to find nice tops/blouses at op shops. It's funny hanging up my washing now because the clothes look so small compared to what they were. It's been strange going into shops to buy trousers and looking at the normal sized racks instead of the larger ladies' clothing.

  • I also got remission. 2 years ago I cut carbs (sugar, fructose, starch) nearly to zero and I reversed prediabetes (A1C from 6.2 to 5.6) within 3 months, without taking any meds. Now, I lost 25% of body mass (A1C now 5.2).

  • Anyone who thinks being "hangry" (so hungry that it makes you angry) is normal will learn otherwise when they stop cramming carbs into their mouth every day. I haven't felt hangry in almost 8 years.

  • I have lost 100 lbs as of yesterday. It has taken me since September 2021. I started keto for year. Then, as of January this year, I started on/off carnivore. Within the last few weeks, I have been just carnivore, and the plateu has broken! I plan on getting down to 170. That is my goal weight. I started at 286, and now I am 186 lbs. I would love to get back to eating a balanced whole food diet sometime. Although eating this way, I have no inflammation....

  • 65 years women, have been vegetarian for many years and the last 5 years my fasting glucose was between 95 - 110. I have done intermediate fasting for 16 hrs, exercise and relatively eating healthy. I was overweight about 40 lb. 3 months ago cut my carb brutally, fasting 20 hrs, exercising 1.5 hr per day after 2 months my glucose did not change or slightly getting worse (increased 5 to 10). Last month I become vegan, no oil, no carb no process food, exercise, fasting and my glucose getting worst, from 6:00 pm to 7:00 am is about 130 and this is not don phenomenon. Any advise greatly appreciated. Got to an endocrinologist, was useless. He told me go and do what you are doing and if you do not get better after six month you can start medication. After 2 months my A1C was 6, C peptide was 2.1. Lost 25 lb in 3 months.

  • What is the expected progression in the reversal of diabetes? How low can we expect HBA1c to go? Over what duration? For a given regimen (low carb, intermittent fasting), does it plateau and not drop beyond a point? Practising a mix of low carb and intermittent fasting for over two years now. Have been able to taper down and eliminate meds; BMI 20.3, Fat% 6.9%. HBA1c came down from 7.7 to 6.2. Have not been able to drop it further. Have I reached the limit of where I can be? How do I know? Can I do something different to take HBA1c down further?

  • How do we know our blood sugar is in the diabetic range? We measure it! Shame the NHS does not think this is a viable strategy.

    @janeknight3597@janeknight35977 ай бұрын
    • They do actually, via hba1c. When it comes within certain ranges they then diagnose pre diabetes or diabetes. What they SHOULD be doing however, is testing Insulin which will be elevated long before hba1c shows a problem.

    • Stick to a proper low carb diet and ditch the meds, IMO!

      @ianstuart5660@ianstuart56608 ай бұрын
    • An HbA1C of 5.3 is in the normal range. Anything above a 5.7 is considered pre-diabetes. Not sure why your dr isn't celebrating instead of pushing Metformin. That range should be listed on your blood work papers. You can point that out to your Dr. I have to do this all the time.

    • @@bbssukl7628 there are contra indication to the gospel of metformin it hinders sport performance in context of vo2max and it seems to steal electrons from mitochondria and can influence your hormones. Going low carb or at least lower carb and sugar is a better path. Metformin seems to have protective properties in other contexts. There are no simpel answers dyor, but when eating low carb Whole Foods good fats gives lots of benefits let food be your medicine.
