Yup - an incredibly stupid mistake. No excuse for it.
The thumbnail appears to be from a ship salvaging video. It shows older and no longer used cruise ships as well as others being dismantled for scrap. Quite a good one to watch.
the thumbnail was the Mobile crash. (i was there when it happened) Carnival had just been there 2 days before, and the (Older ship) The Wheeler had just finished its repairs. High winds caused the Carnival ship to break free from its moors causing a Power outage and 2 guy fell into the water ( 1 survived) it then drifted across the cannel and into The Wheeler ship Trapping one tow boat between them. and the guy filming was not a BAE Employee (BAE was on the other side of the cannel).
Every single video that comes out of India is chaotic, even if it’s just a cat video 😆

I think I heard that Venice has now banned. Cruise ships
Yup. Just too dangerous to go near a city, that's a UNESCO heritage site.
I don’t think so. But they have placed more restrictions on them.
They go somewhere farther down the coast now.
Yea I think it's a good thing! Cruise ships are for cruising not docking😂
Only ones over a certain size... just so happens that most exceed that size.
7:30 Venice has now banned cruise ships outright, I believe.
Not all. Only over 25,000 GRT which... most average cruise ships just so happen to exceed lmao.
I am Belgian, and as far as I know, Brussels is the largest city in Belgium with 1,138,854 inhabitants, then comes Antwerp with 502,604 inhabitants and 3rd comes my hometown Ghent with 248,242 inhabitants. ( 2012 population census )
Please don't pay attention to the AI narrator. It's only as good as the IT people make it. And IT folks are a idiot savant lot.
I am not Belgian, and I know you are wrong. Antwerp is the largest municipality in Belgium with a population of 502,604 inhabitants as of 1 January 2023 As of 1 January 2023, the City of Brussels had a population of 194,291 inhabitants. The Brussels-Capital Region is a region of Belgium comprising 19 municipalities, including the City of Brussels, with a population of 1,235,192 inhabitants as of 1 January 2023. To even remotely think that Brussels has stand-alone population of 1.2 million is just plain stupid. I lived in Brussels for 3 years and never thought Brussels had any more than 100,000 inhabitants.
@@montecarlomc2867 The Belgian capital really does have over a million inhabitants...
@@Dolfvids Fact: The capital of Belgium is Brussels. Fact: As of 1 October 2023, the City of Brussels had a population of 194,291 inhabitants. If you care not to believe me read the Wikipedia link, I have included and pay very close attention to the verified listed population of Brussels located on the right-hand side of the page in the details section of the page. The first sentence in the third paragraph on the page clearly states the population of Brussels. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/City_of_Brussels The City of Brussels is within Brussels-Capital Region. The Brussels-Capital Region has a population of 1.2 million inhabitants. The Brussels-Capital Region is comprised of 19 municipalities with the City of Brussels being the largest. Antwerp by a is the largest city of Belgium. Only a complete uneducated fool would argue otherwise.
@@montecarlomc2867 That's ridiculous. It's like saying that Salisbury is almost five times the size of London because The City of Salisbury's population is 41,820 while that of The City of London is just 8,600. Just as The City of London (the administrative area so called) is a small part of London (the whole city, in the normal meaning of "city"), so is the Municipality of Brussels a small part of the city of Brussels (in the normal meaning of "city"). The KZheadr has obviously looked in Wikipedia and found the (correct) phrase "With a population of 536,079, [Antwerp] is the most populous municipality in Belgium," and not realised how ignorant it makes him sound to replace "municipality" with "city". An international audience is not interested in the details of a conurbation's local government. EDIT: It gets worse. 50 seconds in: "On December 9th of 2019 a 1000 foot container ship from Mexico City [!!] arrived in the port of Vosland, an extension of Antwerp's main hub." With this level of General Ignorance, how can you reply on anything at all in the video? I'm out of here.
The logistics for a layperson are pretty fascinating. Understandable, respectfully presented, I felt. TY
It’s “Mobeel” Alabama. You pronounced it like mobile phone :P
For those of us not from Alabama we pronounce a mobile phone like they said on the video. Like Mobil oil company.
Sounds like an ai voice to me

World's Most Expensive Mistakes in the World
Those big ships now are all banned from the Grand Canal in Venice due to the collision shown in number 8. So something good came of it!
Funny how just about everyone assumes that the Captain is literally at the helm, driving the ship and not a crew member taking orders. It's not always the Captain that saves the ship, I ought to know I saved two ships as the helmsman and I'm not even an Officer of a ship.
'driving'? Every commercial vessel must have an Officer standing watch and so unless you disobeyed a poor command or were left without an Officer, could you elaborate on how YOU saved TWO ships? I'm not even a licensed deck hand, working instead in a shore administration. I have taken the helm of a 40,000 ton vessel out in open water and made course changes manually. All I did was follow instructions. Same as you, I think.
Well, as a merchant mariner myself, on cruise ships, the Master almost always dies his own docking and undocking. Then the pilot takes over until vessel is out of port. Helmsman could be anyone from chief mate to third mate, or another bridge officer.
@@yeeebayeeba4268 out of interest, is there an actual definition of helmsman? To my mind it is literally turning a wheel (either directly to the tiller/ rudder or by turning a computer controlled wheel/ knob). I wonder if by Nation and/or Merchant Vs Armed Navy whether the term differs. I have taken the helm on several occasions on a large passenger ferry, despite not even being ships company. Although encouraged to keep a watch on the horizon/ displays, I could not take the place of the official lookout nor of course OoW. It was literally turning a small dial for heading and only in open water. Yet others have described helmsman as anything from lookout to navigator. NB for anyone who is interested, the Master of the vessel explained that under English law (may differ in other Nations) ANYONE so designated by the Master could be a trainee in any of the lower positions. Most of the crew had taken turns at Helm, especially those seeking to move into navigation department.
@@derektaylor2941 "driving" is correct terminology

Anytime a carnival ship is involved in a collision I question the training of their staff. Seems to happen more often with Carnival.
Yes the name Carnival does seem to come up a lot doesn't it? 😂

The BEKS should have never tried to pass that close. As you said to begin with the smaller ship was pitted. The BEKS rammed the stern and its weight and impetus push the other ship around.

A ship's captain is responsible for everything that happens on or with the ship. If it collides with ANYTHING it's his' or her's FULL RESPONSIBILITY.
How much experience do you have with steering boats?
17:20 no "experienced captain" should ever put his ship in that situation.
So the captain is responsible for mother nature breaking free a docked ship. Got it!!!

Good to see most of those crashes again. It is not cast iron ore - just iron ore. It is one of the ingredients to make cast iron and then steel.
Those Italy cruise ships are wild. Hope everyone was ok
They are NOT Italian cruise ships. THEY ARE cruise ships that happen to be in ITALY. Smarten Up.
I dont know why but those gigantic cruise ships always make me equal parts fascinated and terrified! Like how can something so big float 😂
yeah it's a fun play on physics. as long as you displace enough water that weighs more than the ship itself, it'll stay up. and that tells you just how deep the hull goes down, to displace all that water
@ghomerhust I didn't know that. It helps me understand it a little better, but I'm so science deficient that I still don't get it 100%. 🙂
@@StAlphonsusHasAPosse A famous Greek scientist in antiquity received an order from a king to find out how much gold was in a gold ring but he couldn’t damage it so he took it and laid it in a certain volume of water then calculated the displacement of water and that gave him the weight (with a bit of math).
I couldn’t ever get on one…passengers are so high up it would be a dizzy experience. I took a short trip on a ship between Amsterdam to London and that was all I could handle.
@marinazagrai1623 Thanks, that's cool. I love history, but, alas, I'm also mathematically deficient as well. 🙂
The city of Mobile is pronounced mo-BEEL, not MO-bull like the oil company.
Puerto Rico being mentioned gave me whiplash because, well, I live in P.R. and I legit never heard of this incident either on the news here or in social media lmao. No wonder those mooring points basically disappeared when I got to the piers months after this incident happened lmfao!
For future reference, the city in Alabama, Mobile is pronounced with the accent on the 2nd syllable mo-BEEL

Yes there is. Google is the place to 'wonder stuff'. Have at it.
OMG! I have never been to Venice, but it does not look like it can handle a monster cruise ship.
I would bet on the fact that they now have to drop anchor in deeper water by venice.and tender the passengers and crew in

When I was there most of the canals were smaller with lots less boats and gondolas moving around.
Here in the USA been a few ship stories. Ships hitting each other . But I still love cruises . Going on the escape ship in 2 days and next vacation after that is the Ruby princess that one make the news a few months ago hit the pier coming into San Francisco
i am a US Navy veteran , near the end of the Video ships in the fog bad weather, one ship hit bardges towed by the tub boat, the ship captain should have made one of his crew men be a forward watch, this man would be at the very front of the ship radio contact with the bridge with the fog to better see what is in front of them,
I salute you, Sir, not just for serving in one of the World's finest Navies, but for watching this gibberish until the end. That's dedication for you. Agree with foreward lookout though. I am not ship's crew, instead working shoreside, but I like ships so always go out and about with crew. The rest of my colleagues when onboard are sitting in the bar, not me. Engine room, bridge our out at the pointy end... Occasionally with a relaxed captain, finding an excuse to climb the comms mast for a good look.
Well done Jeff, proud of you. Keep moving forward, one step at time
15:01 That was The Triumph after the famous "Poop Cruise" in dock for repairs. It's now been renamed as the Carnival Sunshine and is out running cruises again. 😲
This is the Carnival Sunrise. The Destiny was renamed the Carnival Sunshine.

I really don't get how someone would willingly go on one of those monster cruise ships and even pay a lot of money to do so. It looks absolutely horrible😂
You know this are very rare occurrences? I’ve been to 5 cruises in my life and they’re super fun and very much worth the money. I’d recommend experience it at least once.
Actually they claim for many years now that "dollar spent to value received" is highest on a cruise ship among vacation choices. Never been on one and have zero interest myself, to confined and packed in for me?
They are gigantic floating hotels, with a large side profile "sail area", so they are not really ocean-worthy enough to withstand a violent storm.
The narrator NEEDS to pronounce names and places correctly.
I think it's AI
Comment is for the man doing the voice over tracks: Mobile, Alabama is pronounced as follows - the second syllabel rhymes with deal. Change the "d" to a "b" and put the emphasis on the second syllabel. Just for future reference.
that first video was a joke. how anyone could say they filmed the crane being hit by the ship is beyond me. why not just keep your place and at least film most of it rather than shaking it all over the place
I sailed ships for over 20 years, including the Navy, no mishaps.
Key statement “including the Navy” yeah you’re probably safer, more competent and better trained than most sailors in the history of the world
@@markanthony1004 I also sailed as a regular Merchant Marine, and our training was the best, They send you to the best schools, you can get a merchant marine document without it. Not sure how other countries work.
When you say The Navy I assume you mean the Royal Navy
I've been a merchant mariner for 21 years and no major mishaps. Minor ones, but nothing to get the USCG all frenzied.
The Australians on the cruise ship crack me up 🤣🤣🤣
“Are you kidding me?” “No.” And “the dickhead steering the boat didn’t steer it right” got me 😂

Seems like high winds are a big factor in causing the crashes.
Idk why but i guess i never really thought about it being a big issue. But i can definitely see those big ships being pushed easily.
This video had me in tears from laughing so hard!
I was on the Brilliance of the Seas (Royal Caribbean) when it went into Venice to dock. It was quite an amazing thing. We got in docked, and departed the next day with no issues.
There was for Venice.
So your ok and to hell with the damage in Venice. What a joke you are
Hey underworld can you do top fires
Thank you Underworld
I always love these amatuer videographers. I mean how hard is it to hold a camera at something. And before you say anything about the ship moving or there being danger so they were being cautious, THEY SHOULDVE LEFT THE AREA if they were that worried.
Cast iron ore? Like from the Skillet Mines?
Hahahahaha
I wonder if Mr Underworld has cameras everywhere--on his car, bike, house, lapel, cat...
Lol. Sounds like an eminently sensible plan!
Large cruise ships might be architectural marvels but in my opinion are hideous monstrosities that should be nowhere near places like Venice.
And in the metropolitan area, all ships are running on schedule.
Thank you for sharing.
With the logic of the Mayor of Venice... Cruise ships are to cursed to stay at sea... only for one crew member to come ashore every 100 years for supplies. 😂

How did the 1000' container shop get to the sea from Mexico City?
If only there were some way to stabilise shaky hand-held video footage in some kind of video editing software. Wouldn't that be amazing?
I've seen the original video of the second clip, the small ship was overtaking the big one, hydro dynamics caused it to be sucked toward the big one, they were hoping they would clear it before the collision.
I like the speaker and the many informations about the things. Really good KZhead channel.
15:35...I remember when that occurred with the Carnival Triumph in Mobile (pronounced Mo-beel btw) Alabama. Wasn't there a tropical storm or tropical depression going on? It's been quite a few years since then, so the details are a little fuzzy, but I definitely remember seeing about that on the news.
Why didn’t the Captain use the handbrake. Probably didn’t read the SOP for its use.🤣🙄
7:03 - 'the crash was not the captains fault..' YES IT WAS!!
3:31 Out here playing " bumper ships " now uh 🚢 🤔 ....
Saw a documentary on cruise ships, showing each cabin is actually a module that can be swapped in and out so a ship could have a deck of economy cabins, for example, just unplugged and removed, and premium cabins put in, in a matter of hours without any change to the ship structure.
Not quite (at least not that I've seen). The cabins are modual and are delivered built up just to be put inside the ship and have electric, air conditioning and plumbing connected. However, to remove them you have to cut big holes in the side of the ship to slide them back out. I think if you wrote weeks rather than hours, you would be closer to the mark.
They are built in modules, but they are welded together and never changed.
5:20 Speed 2 in Real Life… 😂
Next time pull the nearby fire alarm in case of collision or catastrophic failure other than fire

The amount of misinformation in this type of videos always surprises me. That first ship was called ‘APL Mexico City’, but not from Mexico. Also the coast guard doesn’t Noor ships like that, it’s the pilots tugboats and linesmen who do that… Now on to the next part of the video to see what else is wrong :)
Also: the never was closed because of the debris, only that part of the quay was unavailable until all was removed..

The only cruise I have ever been on was a Nile cruise to visit Egyptian archaeological sites. In August we're doing a Danube cruise. These are both on boats specifically designed for river cruises, not these ridiculous floating blocks of flats. I live near Southampton in the south of England and we often see these monstrosities in the harbour there, dwarfing the buildings on land. You wouldn't get me on one for several thousand pounds. All those crowds and forced jollity.
I agree. It’s beyond me why anyone would want to pay such amounts of money only to be stuffed for weeks in such ugly and cheap looking floating resorts filled with ‘American chic’. I know safety regulations and the market prevent the resurrection of the beautiful oceanliners of the thirties such as the normandy or queen Mary, but I would book a ticket for one of those in a heartbeat.

Mobile Alabama, 66 miles/h winds with no waves ? How did that happened ?
The wind was sudden, it didn't have time to build waves. For waves you need wind, time and distance. Depth plays a part too and Mobile Bay is not very deep. They only had 1 of the three. Plus the port is in Mobile Bay which is sheltered

I think the sailor in the first clip should stick to sailor and leave the camera to others. He can't figure out which way to turn, spins around and leaves no focus, then he finally figure out to move to the aft railing, but completely forgets the camera when he realise the crane is coming down. The whole take is just one big confusion that makes no sense at all. Yes. I know. It's always easier to maintain composure when you are not in the thick of it. I should know. I sail on a rescue and patrol ship, and I've had to use a camera to document the operation, using a bulkhead as support some of the time and actually stand/sit on it some of the time.
