The time finally comes for us to throw some new suspension under the BT50 and pick up its sagged front end!
We head to @OutbackArmour and pick up a full suspension kit with adjustable shocks, upper control arms and springs rated to suit our current set up. www.outbackarmour.com.au
What should have been a days work in the shed, (as always for us) soon becomes a much longer operation, with some rather tricky factory suspension bolts.
SUSPENSION MEASUREMENTS
BEFORE- Left: 755mm, Right: 751mm
AFTER- Left: 843mm, Right 842mm
(note- factory suspension had sagged considerably which is why the lift was so big, this will vary vehicle to vehicle.)

  • How many kays did that spare tyre do on the front before it chopped out? Your bump steer will be even worse now you're lifted, so make sure you get regular alignments done to look after your new tyres. 🤙

    • I couldn’t say now unfortunately. Maybe around 40k with alleged rotations from the dealer (might have let it go to prove a point 😉) Yeh for sure, they are terrible. I think even 10k is to long between alignments!

  • Excuse my ignorance. Other than the air bags, is that the standard 2" lift kit or did you get extra. I'm looking at this set up also. Cheers.

    • There is a few different options, particularly with spring rates and you can get adjustable or non adjustable shocks too! You don’t have to get the upper control arms or diff drop (yet to be fitted), but this is what they recommended we do and from my understanding the upper control arms are pretty much a must for all dmax/bt50’s

    • @@OUTANDBACKOFFROAD Hey. Booked mine in. Any particular reason you suggest the upper control arms are a must for the BT50?

  • How would say the ride quality is now with the new suspension ? Do the adjustment knobs actually make a difference when turned or is it a gimmick?

    • Hey mate, going very well so far. They definitely make a difference, ours are turned up quite far in the front to help with the poor common camber issues in the BT’s and Dmax’s and reduce bump steer. The back is a little softer and feels really good.

  • Hey mate how does it ride without any load in the rear

    • Not too bad at all with the 300’s, i think having the ability to adjust the shock dampening with the adjustables helps a lot as well Definitely wouldn’t want anything heavier thats for sure!

  • Did you go for a 300kg constant load?

  • I have the constant 200kg outback armour and they have sagged considerably I would not recommend them if you are towing a caravan and the extended bump stops are too high and they hit the chassis. It was a waste of money and I will replace the springs with a heavy rating .

    @eaglesnest1940@eaglesnest19403 ай бұрын
    • Hey mate, 200kg is a pretty light spring rate. Especially if you are doing lots of towing. Is there any other load on the tray? If the bump stops are hitting regularly that could also be due to the rear spring rate being way too light. Keep in mind the bump stop should be long enough that the shock absorber doesn’t bottom out which is far far worse. With a shock designed for a lift kit being longer the bump stop needs to be increased to match. We are running the 300kg constants and have not had any issues whatsoever.
