First person who explained offset in simple terms thanks for that great demo.
Best explained definition of all time. No jargon or technical ambiguity, just plain ol' truth..... old school, bruh !
Tks!, Ronny. The CLEAREST & SIMPLEST explanation of offset I have ever seen on KZhead.
Minus the accent... :)

I hate it how ppl explain this. Like fucken rocket science. This video is the easiest best video I've seen
All the Aussie off-road channels I come across have clear and informative info about what changes to your vehicle actually do! Refreshing and great for someone new to the hobby.
Thanks for appearing in my feed. I feel like you keep answering all the questions I otherwise would've never thought to ask. Also great to see your old videos too and appreciate how far you've come; production, content, quality etc.
I had no idea about rim offset and have been wanting to know for ages. This video couldn't have given me a more clearer explanation. Definitely worth the 15 minute watch
Ron, thank you so much. I never knew this and it is never talked about when setting up off-road vehicles. Gezz, I learn something new every time I watch one of your videos. I'm very glad to be a subscriber. Be well & Happy trails.
Great explanation. This is why I love KZhead. I learn stuff I would never learn without it. Thank you.
Probably one of the better videos I’ve seen explaining and going more into detail about different offsets. Thank you sir 👍
You've explained it better and much simpler than anyone i've heard before, subscribed.
Great video, i've always just told people that negative hits the body, positive hits the suspension, the least technical way i could think to explain it.
Thanks Ronny, what a timely video. I'm currently shopping for steel rims, and as I have jmacx's axle, I thought I didn't need an offset. Could not find one a zero offset and some were ridiculously out. ROH were the smallest at 10mm. Now I know why. Two inch wider rim will bring it in 1 inch and rub on something. Cool, now I'm happy to buy them. Thank you.
People should also be aware about how offsets can effect your scrub radius, and that your offset should match your Tyre height and king ping inclination so you suspension geometry stays in spec and you don’t ruin its handling
Hi Ronny...Now how amazing and of a true coincidence this is...I was literally watching several alder of your "MODIFIED" videos, in which (very) regularly wheels, and their offset is talked about, but, not always very clear to me...And now there you are with a very comprehensive video about wheels' OFFSET !! Thanks, very clear !!!
This is the best video I have watched on this topic. Straight to the point and very well explained. Thank you!!!
Out of all the videos on KZhead yours Roni was the best explanation, thanks mate
Have to Ronny you have some of the most informative and easiest to follow videos on the tube, cheers!
Wow... best explanation I’ve seen/heard. Again Ronny, absolute gem of a video... 👍👍👏👏
Best explanation/example so far on the net. Thank you
I just found your channel and I am learning sooo much! Thanks man!
Ronny, I really appreciate all your videos! Thanks keep them coming!
Thank you so much…this video has helped me a great deal…I’m in the market for new rims and tires for my Jeep here in Northern Alberta and now I am confident that I’ll pick the right ones…awesome tip about protecting the rubber boots and break lines 👍🏼…lots of sticks and snags where I wheel :)
Love your tutorials. Very easy to understand. Keep up the good work.
Just purchased a 2018 Subaru Crosstrek and looking to change my rims, wheels and perhaps add a lift. Your video is so informative and it helped me understand the meaning of offset. GREAT CONTENT. THANK YOU.
Best explanation so far I've been able to find, thanks!
Thank you for the Info Ronny, I'll make sure I keep this in mind before changing the size of my rims👍
Loving the informational videos coming back, keep it up
Thanks for explaining the measuring of the offset. I always wondered how they came up with the number. Now I know. Thanks, George.
Thank you, best explanation I’ve heard.
Outstanding video - you are a great teacher! A rim choice vid will be great. Such as when would you choose a 15 inch rim over a 17, 18 or 20?
This was by far the best explanation of this..just bought new rims and tires for my 2022 f250 pro comp rim 6 offset 4.75 back spacing with a 295/70/17 BFG AT KO. Thanks for help..I subscribed!
The thumbnail taught me more than all of the vids I’ve watched
Your videos are awesome dude, lots of solid information. appreciate it
Great info Ronny! Big 👍🏾 from Papua New Guinea 🇵🇬
I think another important distinction to make is that you can go less positive or more positive if you currently have a positive offset wheel. Likewise, you can go more or less negative offset if you currently have a negative offset wheel. i.e. my truck came with +45 offset wheels. I was running 35x12.5 tires with no rub. I wanted to up the tire to 37x13.5. I also wanted to increase the rim width from 8" to 9" to better suit the wider tires which also has to be considered in the calculation. I went with a lesser positive offset wheel of +20mm. In my case this was the best balance between rubbing on the upper control link inboard and rubbing on the rear of the fender well outboard. In the end with a little rear fender well trimming I have no rub on the fender at full lock, but I did gain a little rub on the upper link at full lock. This is the compromise I had to except to maximize my tire / wheel combo. If I went to 0mm or negative offset, I could easily clear the upper link, but I would have to do major surgery to the rear of the fender well.
Thanks Ronny. After watching this video, I totally understand the off set
Been wondering what all meant for years and now I know.....thanks 👍👍
I m new to your channel, subscribed today watched plenty of your videos and i gotta say you have quality!! Nice explanations, simple to understand. Greetings from Greece, wish off roading was as popoular as it is there!!
Been watching heaps of your vids, getting my troopy set up from scratch and the $$$ are mounting up, getting the track alignment and GVM upgrade from JMACX and then a roof conversion with alu-cab.... and the $$$ keep piling up since i dont have batteries, water tanks and all that in it yet, as I want it as a home for the next 12mnths or more. Having watched one of your other vids with the Hungarian couple, I can still survive without all the other bells and whistles for now.
Great job explanaining offset! Thanks for sharing!
I went with a -19 offset on my new wheels gave me exactly what I was looking for. Slightly wider stance increased my stability a food amount and my traction when driving through soft surfaces.
Traction? A wider track width will have zero effect on Traction. My bet is you got new tyres and that's why you got more traction
Great vid as always Ronny 🙂👍🏽
Best offset video ever...Thank's for the great and easy to understand explanation...legend
Great tutorial mate thank you 👍
Can you do a video comparing narrow (255mm or less) and wide tyres (265mm and higher) please? Pros and cons - off road performance, tyre weight (unsprung mass), braking distance, acceleration, stability/handling, fuel consumption etc.
Great vid Ronny, that's something I've always wondered. I'd be really interested to see a video about after market lockers. I.e. different brands and different styles like elockers or airlockers or the "lokka" Cheers!
I second this! I've got a lot of questions about lockers.
15 minutes schooling me of the good stuff. thank you.
Best 4x4 channel on KZhead
Hey Ronny, love the channel. Just wondering what you would recommend as a cost effective alternative to correcting rear wheel track on a 76? Trying to avoid carrying two spares with different offsets. Cheers mate
Thank you so much I’ve been trying to understand wheel offset for years
I was thinking about getting new wheels to compliment my new, larger tires to give me a little poke on my new truck. Now, I think I will stick with my stock wheels. Thanks for the education!
Negative offset brings your wheel outward toward the edge, positive offset brings your wheel inward. No off set is centered, Thank you! There was much more that I learned but that was the basic info on which I can build on.
Thanks for explaining this! Legend!
Great vid. Informative, clear and to the point.
Excellent video Ronny ... thank you!
cheers for helping mate. I need neg as I always scrub when flexing in my lux on 33s
Best explanation I've ever seen on this but please make a video on the effect to steering feel/ physics please
Thanks Ronny, understood wheel offset for the first time 🙌
Great Explanation, thanks so much!
Great informative vid as always Ronny o7
Thanks Ronny, I think legality is an important consideration. I’m led to believe the maximum negative offset legal in Australia is -25 mm from standard fitment. (For benefit of viewers Eg current model Hilux is +30 therefore max allowed is +5 before one becomes illegal) I see vehicles everyday on the road with aftermarket wheels which are running around with illegal offset if the above is true. If you have knowledge in this area It would be great if you could share that as well, cheers 👍
Awesome vid. Easily explained and to the point. Thank you😃
Great video bro straight to the point.
Very well done. Perfect explanation.
Great video Ronny. Is that a new 4 wheeling australia H.Q instead of the home garage.
Excellent video, best explanation of rim offset I’ve seen.
Ronny I understood it all. Thanks fella!
Scrub radius is a problem to consider also. Negative offset will increase this and make turning much harder. It also is more strain on all the turning gear.
thankyou ronny, it was a very useful and informative video.
Best video intros on KZhead! Always got me guessing where he might appear from😁
chenzo717 6 foot yet he always finds a way to hide
thanks - perfect explanation. Made it easy to follow and understand.....!!!
Thank you very much Ronny. Now I understand at last negative and positive index of rims. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👍🏻😷😄
Contrary. I’ve been doing tires for years, I know what Rim Offset is. I just love watching you guys.
hey, so how does offset affect handling on a saloon car, will 4mm from std make any difference. how far from std before there may be a negative effect to the handling .. i see this is an old post...
Thanks for taking the time to 'show' the difference.
Great video, thank you! Just subscribed.
@12:45 I know exactly what you mean, but the chaotic neutral in me wants you to know that if you divide by half it's gonna double in value ;)
Greats explanation, always wondered what people meant by off set rims.
Very nicely explained. Easy to understand in one viewing only.
Great video mate clear and concise
Well explained video Ronny 👍🍻
Thanks so much. Great explanation of wheel offset. 👍🏻
Get the most negative offset you can find bois. Gotta look cool when you park on the mall kerb!
Ha ha yeah I weld two rims together just to get em right out there it's all about the looks
Burn them cv's
Depends on where you live! I my area, central europe, these wheels outside the wheel arch look embarrassing.
@@derJackistweg welcome to Australia. We like shit phat
Lol 😂
hi, from the usa, y love your video, very informative, thanks for sharing.
Great explanation! Thank you buddy!
Awesome! I learnt something new today.. Thanks Ronny
Thanks Ronny. Great video Also changing the offset either way has a negative impact on steering geometry. Maybe worth the compromise for better stability, but worth thinking about. As well as if you change it and something breaks or bends (think wheel coming off) the vehicle manufacturer will wash their hands of it and you’ll be on your own. They will just say we didn’t test or design the vehicle with those wheels. Can get very bad very quickly if there’s an accident with injury or death. Think ISUZU NPS300 4x4 with wide singles instead of the standard dual rear wheels.
That logic only applies to new vehicles still under whatever warranty guarantee manufacturer may have provided, which even if no mods of any kind done they always find a reason to deny honoring anyway
Thanks. Plain and simply explained.
You’re a good teacher.
Hey , thanks for the information. Can you recommend the best brand of steel rims? People here in our region are crazy about ROH. Thanks
I give this video 10/10 articulations!
Ronny you sir are a HERO. I salute you mate, I just wish to migrate to Australia to go wheeling with you. It's like a kid meeting batman/superman :D
Hi Ronny, thx for your explaination. If my original standard offset is ET45, will there be any effect on my arms and bushes if i change my rims to ET20?
Thanks Ronny, always knew what + or - offset looked like and now I know how its measured. Question, if one puts aside the "lookie me" factor, what are the advantages of wider or narrower rims (from stock)? I'm thinking grip on & off road, handling on road, fuel economy on road, weight, braking, wear...I know the tread pattern, plays a big role, but can we just concentrate or width of the wheel and look at things like footprint area and any other factors? It'd be nice to not have to guess (and get it way wrong = $$).
Hi Rohnny. Love the vids mate. Would love for you to expand on this particular video, though from an angle of trying to match camper trailer wheels to the tow vehicle. For me it’s a nightmare - vehicle is a Triton with + 38 offset. Camper trailer has 0 offset. I can’t make the wheels on the trailer 38 offset, not enough clearance. And to put 0 offset wheels on Triton would be illegal and present too many issues, all of which I won’t do. Question is - is there a way around this legally (ie would the spacer block you showed in this video work on the trailer)?? Or is it even worth the hassle to have all wheels match.
Thank you for the guidelines this is awesome now i have a idea 💡👍
Great explanation. I want to put same size tire but my factory tire has 38 offset. When I buy 0 offset rim do you think it damages my suspension too much??
one of the best explanation
Well explained, I’d recommend explaining back spacing as well.
I’ve watched at least a dozen wheel “offset” videos and this one is flat-out the best one. Easily to digest and understand. Awesome presentation!
Great to hear!
Great vid, the stance is really different, and less of a security hazard for cars, especially that, u'll want to do a little less in a car than u could do in a proper off road vehicle (a car that's 1-worth it, 2-can take it). I myself have had rims 25mm wider than stock with 20mm negative offset mounted on my Mustang, not to mention smaller, spacers are a no go for me, thick ones will mess with u'r vehicle and have a huge chance to throw the wheel off balance. thin ones reduce u'r lug nut threads by the amount of it's width, not a stupid thing to make them illegal
