I was there a few years ago camping around the area and you WILL see some bears there. We woke up one morning with one about 40 feet away, just looking at us. Wouldn't budge, just sat there, so we left and came back for our stuff later.

It's a beautiful area to visit. My late mom's aunty, uncle and cousins lived in Black Mountain. She visited a lot during the summer to see her cousin and family. Cousin-in-law Dick was a lawyer and served as mayor for awhile there. Hubby and I visited as well. Great folks and good times.

I hear about bears all the time when I work in Asheville but never saw any until a few days ago. I was staying at the the Asheville Element One hotel just east of downtown Asheville, looking out the window and there’s a bear walking down the median strip of I240 just as free as you please. Quite a sight for a city dweller.
I’m glad there is nice, fresh water for the bears to drink. There may be plenty of fresh water streams, but some of them may be dry at this time of year.

Mr Patrick, sound like the bears may not sleep this year very much. If they don't, DNR better help them out by feeding them. They say we're going to be way above normal temperatures this winter accross north America due to having an El Nonio Winter. They said it could go the other way and be colder than normal, but they feel it leaning towards lots of precip and above normal temps. ❤❤❤😊

There's a video posted on Facebook of a momma bear and 4 cubs in downtown Asheville last night Oct 18. I wonder if it is Simone? Cubs look really good. Did the rangers relocate her away from Patrick, or are you just not posting videos of her. Cubs look great, Simone looks exhausted.
Hi I saw that video and I was so sad to see mama bear and cubs walking through downtown with all the cars and looking for somewhere to go as they crossed streets. I hope Simone and company haven't wandered into the downtown area.
