P=papa etc. For example, air Canada 934 runway 33 right taxi via kilo alpha a bravo hold short runway 33r That just means that you (air Canada 934) have to go TU runway 33r using runways k, a b, that are just marked in the airport map and tell them when you are just before the run way.

      @F2_Gaming@F2_Gaming11 ай бұрын
    • @@F2_Gaming the auxiliary power unit (APU) is a small "engine" that helps with powering the electronics while on the ground (like: a/c, lights, etc.) and helps with starting the main engines. Think of it as if you're starting the car, the car's battery has to be turned on before you start the engine. Before APUs, planes had to be connected to a ground power source to start their engines and electronics (note: the APU also helps with **several** other functions, this reply is a severely oversimplified explanation) Leaving the APU turned on would be as if you have your key turned over to "START" while you're driving. However, doing that to your car can cause significant damage... for Airplanes, leaving the APU turned on during flight is mostly harmless. Most APUs have an altitude limit and will automatically turn off once it is over that limit. That being said, constantly having the APU on during flights does cause some wear on the small engine and you do waste fuel

      @CaptainRednose@CaptainRednose11 ай бұрын
    • @@F2_Gaming the APU is the auxillary power unit. It's a gas-turbine engine in the tail of the aircraft that provides electrical power and bleed air for the plane while it's sitting on the ground without the engines running. It's typically running before engine startup and provides the bleed air for engine starts. You'd shut it off once the engines are up and spinning.

      @bjacks2927@bjacks292711 ай бұрын
    • @@F2_Gaming Have you ever boarded a flight and the plane sounds loud like an engine is running, what you are hearing is the APU.

      @xeldinn86@xeldinn8611 ай бұрын
    • It is basically something that you need to turn on in order to start the engines, but it should be turned off after all engines start as the apu uses fuel of its own, which is why at the gate, ground power is used as it has all the other functions of apu but without burning fuel.

    • They do, but its not very often they do. If you let one person do it, you have to let others do it, and not everyone is considerate enough to not overwhelm atc. Plus, people who join groups like this tend to be more passionate about the flying and immersion than being the main character of an action movie.

    • @@Joe121572 Boston's ARTCC includes a flight with emergency in its "Wings" training flight program. The key is the controllers know ahead of time and approve the flight (though I can't remember if you're required to say *when* in route you'll be experiencing). The trouble with random pilot emergencies is they easily become the focus of the session and you can easily end up with the aforementioned "main character" problem. Otoh, I have seen the more common "computer" emergencies (runaway or rogue autopilot, misconfigured charts, weather not synced) that they tend to handle gracefully.

  • This is the first video I've seen of MFS online. I'm loving this. It's unexpectedly professional sounding for being a game where (I assume) random people can join. Is it common for pilots to use these kinds of flight sim games in their freetime? As well as ATC? Or is this mostly aspiring pilots and ATC practicing? Hobbyists? A mix of the bunch? Still amazing to see when a game is so realistic.

    • @@irikimosss theres nothing better about XP's flight model. Its more up to the individual aircraft in both sims, how much work the devs put into it. If anything MSFS is capable of more advanced aero simulation. Plus the amount of add on aircraft is huge now and growing constantly. XP does have more freeware though.

      @seeingeyegod@seeingeyegod10 ай бұрын
    • @@seeingeyegod there's EVERYTHING better about XP's flight model! Did you know that in FSX/MSFS even the weight is not well simulated? And maybe MSFS is more eye-candy, but at the cost of being a stutter-city everyday. No thanks man!

I also get to sit and watch planes taking off or landing on runway 24L from the back parking lot of my last pickup. There's a burger joint literally right across the street from runway 23 where the thrust of the engines rattles the windows on takeoffs.
