"Audience is tired of Luke Skywalker" said one of the Disney heads...but The Mandalorian shows that the only thing we are tired of is Disney's approach to Star Wars. Thanks, Mark, for my happy childhood!
To be fair, there's a lot Disney could do outside of the Skywalker Saga, but we aren't necessarily bored with Luke. There's interesting comics, books etc of his time after the Empire falls that are equally as interesting in my opinion. Disney are mostly just milking it to make money.
The only thing we are tired of is Kathleen Kennedy.

No idea why he wasn't just the default choice to play Luke. He has a similar enough appearance that it would've easily passed.
This scene made me cry tears of joy. I think calling Mark in again is the right call because he deserves to see Luke done right. He deserves to make the call about what to do with Luke because he IS Luke Skywalker. I think so long as he's involved with the whole thing as like a Luke mentor to Max, I'm all for it.
If this guy has Mark's blessing, then he has mine. Not that he needs it lol. I wouldn't mind a Luke Skywalker series with Max Lloyd-Jones, even without CGI.
Only issue is you’d have to at least recast Leia, and what we didn’t know until she was gone, was she was the most iconic of all. Otherwise, I’d agree.

i feel most people realize that this is the best route, they look 90% similar and we dont need a cgi luke when we can just have a real one actors grow old its part of life

The only thing missing in this behind the scenes special is I wish they would have chatted with Max Lloyd Jones. I would have loved to hear how the experience was for him. He looked to be loving it though, right down to hanging with Grogu himself. And I do think they should bring him back as prime Luke should the story call for it.

I think his resemblance to Mark is close enough that they could make that work. Sebastian Stan is a closer match, but Max would do fine. One thing that could mess it up would be if his voice pitch was significantly off from Mark's.

I don't know about you, but I would have had a full blown geekout if Mark Hamill showed up anywhere I was. He was, and is, the absolute hero of my childhood.

I cried in happyness because that's the Luke Skywalker i wanted to see in new movies, and disney trylogi doesn't count.

The part of Mark walking through the smoke with the light saber was so perfect, and incredible, loved how much effort they put in to make Luke's appearance accurate to Mark's portrayal, and timely for those who were just introduced right then and there

I love how they use the glowing "real" lightsaber props instead of the red sticks for rendering back in the day. Must give the actors and atmosphere a new realistic feeling. Also, how cool for them and Mark for him to be there. Amazing what star wars has become for people.
Yes but it has minus - when I was watching a chapter with Asoka I felt something is wrong, she doesn't get enemies in half, it looked like she touches them... and when I saw her behind the scenes I understood why - she simply had "real" lightsabers.

@@Shaolingy I'm sure, but you're looking at $200+, maybe much more. There are some "props" that are out-of-control pricewise as collector's items.
The most amazing thing about this, his fighting style, the movement, was literally perfect.

I would be more than okay with this guy becoming just straight up the new Luke Skywalker in his own Star Wars TV show. That's all I want from Star Wars these days. That, and for them NOT to butcher KOTOR.
You just don't get it...If Luke isn't played by Mark Hamill or without Mark Hamill's voice and likeness then it just isn't Luke, it's Luke Skywalker in name only. You might as well create a different character at that point. Very few people would be able to buy into it mentally, because once you associate a face with a character it's very hard to separate the two. There's a reason they went through the trouble of making it look like Mark Hamill instead of just using the actor on set. Can you imagine if at the end of that epic scene he lifted his hood and it was just some dude who almost, sorta kinda resembles young Mark Hamill? The moment would have lost 99% of it's luster. Everybody knew it was Luke while he was fighting through the hallways, but what made the moment, and what made everybody gasp in excitement was when the hood came off and it was Mark Hamill's Luke. The technology will only get better and I believe they'll keep using it. In fact I wouldn't be surprised to see a de-aged Harrison Ford show up as Han Solo in either Mando Season 3 or Book of Boba Fett

2:52-2:57 Look at Grogu! The puppeteer keeps moving him and it's both hilarious and adorable. Aside that, I have to say that Max Lloyd-Jones gives me more Luke vibes than Sebastian Stan. There's something about his stance, his stillness, the way he moves. It's as if he'd internalized Luke's goodness, his patience, his spirit. And let's not talk about Luke's fighting style. Totally him! Calm, thorough, lethal. But even in lethal mode, there's peace within. I don't know if it's all in my mind, but that's what I'm feeling. The embodiment of a Jedi. And at 0:28-0:30, when he's passing his lightsaber to the other hand, look at his face under the hood. I swear he looks like Hayden Christensen.
i agree and tbh whether they get max lloyd-jones or someone else to play live action luke in the future, physical resemblance isn't the only thing that matters (even though they don't have to look exactly alike). it's also the way the actor carries himself when portraying the character. it makes sense for luke after rotj to have a more calm demeanor because he has matured and been through experiences that have taught him more patience as a jedi knight, and eventually jedi master. not only that, but the actor should also bring a certain warmth and kindness to the role because that's who luke is. having a new actor to play younger, post rotj luke is the way to go instead of cgi. the popular sebastian stan fancast doesn't work for me and i prefer the new actor for luke to not be heavily involved the mcu.

@@altairdance0284 speaking of warmth of character, Max lacked that in his interaction with Mando a bit, I think, despite the situation being Luke facing armed strangers
@@Jason75913 idk about that, since they plastered that cgi face over max and the script only called for him to interact a few minutes at most with the characters. so I wouldn't write say that performance itself was really lacking in warmth. there was a lot going on and the stand in actor could only model himself mostly off of what the directors told hamill to do. i did like seeing that gentle side of him more during the bts footage (like when he was soft with grogu, already way better than the deepfake puppet's stilted interactions in bobf) and the more calm way he carried himself during the fight scenes so it really comes down to the combination of acting, direction, writing. we won't know unless disney stops trying to resort to cgi/deepfake uncanny valley and takes a chance on new actors.
Honestly I wouldn't mind luke without the deepfake either, the actor resembles luke a lot.
I was in denial. Star Wars had gone so far south I didn’t believe they could get this right. The rescue indeed. The gloved hand clinched it so I was just screaming by the time the hood came down. But dang. He LOOKS like Luke. I’d love this actor to take over as Luke if the story calls for it.

Moving forward, I would be okay with Max Lloyd-Jones helping to portray Luke in this time period. Max was involved in redeeming Luke from Kathleen and Co, so Max has my blessings as Luke. It's too bad that Mark is 70 now, but like the analogy Mark made wrt James Bond, sometimes you need to have several actors involved in order to fulfill the greater mission of keeping the character of Luke Skywalker going.
It took me a while but I finally figured out where I've seen this guy before. The Luke actor was an extra in a season 4 episode of Supernatural where Dean goes back in time and meets his parents.
What actually impressed me the most, and they didn't explain is how the hell did they make young Mark Hamill's voice... The CGI is not impressing they'd done it before.

Yeah i gotta admit Luke appearing in mandalorian was one of my favourite starwars moments of all time as i just didn’t see it coming. Disney may have mucked up the sequels but they done well with mando. And rogue one.with the vader slaughter scene and princess leah. Its cool to see how they brought luke back.

@@FinalConsensus Characters get recast all the time. How many people have played Superman or Batman? I personally am okay with a new face playing Luke, as long as they get the character right. Granted, I would love to see Sebastian Stan in the role, because he's one of my favorite actors, but it doesn't have to be a Mark Hamill doppleganger.
I'm super glad that Mark got to play the REAL Luke Skywalker again, but moving forward Max Lloyd-Jones should be the new Luke, no weird CGI stuff. 2:00 there you having the blessing from the man himself

After seeing the original Episode 4 in the cinema in 1978 as a kid... I'm now beyond jealous of this new Luke Skywalker. To share a Hollywood set with Mark Hamill would be one of the greatest gifts of a lifetime.

He apparently is there was a confirmed series about baby yoda and Luke’s Jedi school so hopefully this guy will portray him in that for sure

Luke's outfit looks just like Anakin's did in AOTC and ROTS.
I´ve never been a Star Wars fan, such I am a Trekkie. But I love "The Mandalorian" and that final scene killed me. I burst into tears and don't really know why. Memories came back and all sorts of emotions and next thing I know I was crying. That doesn't happen often on TV. The funeral of Princess Diana was the last event that made me cry. Wow. You guys of Disney, Marvel and Lukas or whoever made this, you nailed it!
Honestly, i wouldn't mind seeing this guy be the new Skywalker. People want Sebastian Stan because of how much he looks like a young Mark Hamill, but if he doesn't want to do it then that's up to him. As long as the core of the character is there, then we're set.
He looks close enough, let this dude be the new Luke and lets start this party over! I'm old school love the originals but I was always so mad they never did more movies about Luke like the The Timothy Zahn novels which are amazing.

still shed a tear watching this, plus seeing Mark, Carrie, and Harrison on screen is a once in a lifetime opportunity. If things were different/better, we'd have seen them more often aiding new generation where I now have no idea where the cast will go story wise. Very interesting that in a few shots you can see Max Lloyd Jones holding Anakin's lightsaber, instead of Luke's. Wonder if that is an intentional nod to how they used both Anakin's and Luke's hilt throughout production of ROTJ or if it's just pure luck. Although often there is more to it than luck.

Even watching this, 9 months after seeing that final episode for the first time made me want to cry again. That love, that passion, that basic understanding for what this Star Wars story is, needs to be nurtured and developed. The sequel trilogy is trash compared to 5 mins of that footage. I hope Disney realise that now.

I loved this scene and if they bring mark back for Luke again I’ll love it, but if they decide to just have this guy play luke I think I’ll be ok with that. As long as mark wants this guy to be a stand in with his face and voice over this guys body I’ll always prefer that but the stand in… He looks so much like young mark I have to look at them side to tell the difference and he’s obviously a Luke fan. Mark will always be Luke in our hearts but if for some reason this guy took over the roll with Marks blessing id be happy with it.

Disney really messed up by not basing the sequels on Luke's journey's after Episode 6. If they had they would have made an enormous fortune off the ticket sales alone, and then the merchandise sales would have been astronomical. They could have introduced their next generation of heroes as pupils of Luke and other acquaintances during that time frame who later have their own separate adventures of importance. They forgot the core way that in Star Wars characters are always introduced via an already known and established character, Right from the first moments aboard the Tantive IV , every single character is introduced via someone we already know and have seen before. Its like a baton race that makes everything easy to understand and relate to, because each new character relates to someone we already know. They also kept the number of key characters being introduced relatively small and easy to follow.
A Luke Skiwalker series would be Awesome!
